A standalone forbidden bodyguard romance!

Love is an inconvenience Anna Cavallaro doesn’t have time for.

She only has one goal: to become a fashion designer. Chicago’s elite already copies her style religiously, not least because she’s the daughter of the city’s notorious mafia boss.

When she’s accepted at a world-famous fashion institute in Paris, her father’s condition is to take her bodyguard along.

Anna definitely wouldn’t mind a few weeks of no-strings-attached fun with her brooding protector. Santino Bianchi became the Outfit’s enforcer because he liked the thrill of the hunt and kill.

Babysitting his capo’s daughter is an honorable assignment he can’t refuse. His thoughts about Anna?

Not so honorable.

Santino’s ignored Anna’s persistent flirting for years. Now, far away from home boundaries begin to blur. But Santino doesn’t have any intention to be the reason for a failed engagement and the ensuing scandal.

A summer fling in Paris.

Only two things stand in Anna’s way.

Santino’s iron will.

And…her fiancé.

“Everything is different with you.”

CharlieH_StaresOut

Yowza! Book two in the Sinners series was a siiiiizzling, butterflies-inducing romance! Beautifully written with an intriguing storyline and engaging characters. Whilst Taken By A Sinner (book one) was an explosive hate-to-love romance story, Owned By A Sinner was a mouth-watering instant attraction.

I am OBSESSED with Heard’s Mafiosos since The Saints series, and have been loving each and every one of the heroes within. Liam Byrne is rightfully amongst these group of men, but you immediately discover his unusual characteristics is what sets him apart from the rest. That, and the fact that he seems to have a well-managed balance of his two worlds— the seedy underworld and the world’s more civilized society.

Although a relatively quick full-length novel, I thought the world-building was rich and left open for possible expansion. There was a nice constant build-up throughout which paired well with the unpredictability of it all. An Irish Mafia romance with a kick! The romance can be considered insta-love but it doesn’t come off that way with how Liam’s and Kiara’s relationship developed. If you enjoy reading workplace romances, and/or age-gap romances in your mafia books, then I recommend you try this one on for size! 😉 It’s the second book in a series of standalones, so you can technically read this one without having read Taken By A Sinner first (although I highly recommend you read in publishing order for maximum experience).

Kiara didn’t stand out as much as Liam as I would’ve liked or was hoping for. She came off as a stereotypical damsel-in-distress. I would’ve loved to have seen her be a little bit wiser in her decisions and actions. Whilst she had a lot of naiveness to her, overall, she’s still a likable character. As the story progressed and certain situations became more intense, I ended up getting just as emotionally invested in Kiara as I did Liam. There’s a sweet innocence to their relationship that I found both endearing and refreshing in comparison to Heard’s previous mafia couples.

It’s told from dual points of view, along with relatable and hilariously realistic inner monologues that honestly couldn’t stop me from smiling. There are equal measures of romance and dark mafia elements, which I loved, and which Heard has delivered time and time again. She pushes the boundaries of the level of darkness she’s willing to put her characters through and their journey ends up becoming more in-depth and genuine because of it. Owned By A Sinner does contain sensitive subject matter that may be triggering for some readers such as, strong sexual assault, blackmail, and graphic violence. Intended for readers 18+ only.

I was amazed by the excellent contrast of light and dark Heard has executed with this story. It switches back and forth from a light-hearted atmosphere to one of danger and suspense without it feeling stilted. From my past experiences I’ve always found her writing to be consistently gripping from the characters she introduces, to the solid plotlines, to the overall execution of the storytelling. Always effortless to follow and this was no different.

Other than Liam’s and Kiara’s budding romance, I was gripped by the cast of secondary characters who made quite grin-inducing impressions themselves. They were the perfect addition that not only added some of the entertainment value, but also supporting storylines that added dimension to the overall book.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down until I finished it. I thought it was an amazingly swoon-worthy second book to the series. It not only had me hooked from beginning to end but had me anticipating the next books to come. Despite the gritty world Kiara has been thrust into, Liam provided warmth, affection, and all-around safe haven that will ultimately melt your heart.

Gut-wrenching at times. Not going to lie, it’s a bit of tearjerker (at least for me). But by the end it will leave you with happy contentment! Also, an Irish Mafioso who’s described as looking like Charlie Hunnam?! Umm… yes please! 😍

After two years of taking care of her heartbroken father, Evie needs a new start. Leaving the States and following her sister to Australia to work as the personal assistant of rugby star Xavier – The Beast – Stevens seems like the right kind of distraction.

Tall, muscled and devilishly handsome, Xavier is the lov’ em and leav’ em kind of guy. He never forgets a girl’s name because he never bothers to remember it in the first place.

Evie soon realizes that being Xavier’s assistant is a 24/7 job; the man seems unwilling to even set an alarm for himself.

As she watches him move from one woman to the next, Evie is glad that her heart is safe from his attention. After all, she’s a far cry from the size zero models he usually takes to his bed.

But soon being around Xavier doesn’t feel like a job, and seeing him walk around his apartment half naked all the time isn’t helping either. Evie knows that giving in to her attraction will lead to heartbreak, but when Xavier starts treating her as more than just his assistant, resisting his charms seems like an impossible task.

• MY REVIEW •

ChrisHemsworth_PillowThrow

What a charming read. I laughed a few times and had a few lip-trembling-teary-eyed moments too from a few scenes of the book. It’s was a nice quick sports romance that you could easily devour in a day or read in-between books.

Oh man, I think I’m so used to the darker side of contemporary romances that I’m actually thinking this book was a pretty tame read in comparison. Haha. Although definitely not YA (there are lots of mature sexual content/ scenes intended for readers 18+ only)!

In my opinion the pace was a little on the slower side but didn’t drag on. I know this is the first book in the series so I’m hoping the world-building will grow more-so in the following book. I would’ve liked more of the “sports” aspect in this sports romance… a game or two, or maybe more interaction with the team..? 🤔

I was imagining Xavier to be more “bloke-y”, a little more rough around the edges— especially for a rugby player. He’s not the most charming of heroes and he does a lot of questionable things throughout that makes you think if he’s a worthy hero. But despite all that, it didn’t exactly stop me from liking him as character overall (even if he is a player). 😬🙈 But I saw some redeemable qualities in him. The way he cared for Evie and the things he says to her to snap her out of her insecurities… *cue in 3,2,1… SWOOOOOOON!*

I found Evie to be such a relatively relatable character. We have similar personality traits that I actually found myself connecting with her instantly. I liked that Evie has the ability to be strong when she needs to be but also has a vulnerable, insecure side to her that makes her a down-to-earth genuine person. In my opinion, Cora’s a pro at creating characters who grow throughout the book (or series).

The build-up to Evie and Xavier getting together had my stomach fluttering the entire time. Buuuuut… I felt after 2/3 of the way events that transpired left me a little underwhelmed. I was waiting for something big and angsty to happen before I reached the ending but it never really happened (again, after having read darker romance, this felt soo… hmm… mild haha).

There’s certain side characters who I absolutely adore (and secretly hoping would be in future books), and then there’s certain characters that had me 🙄🙄 and almost wanting to scream “shut up! shut up! shut up!” lol —sorry for the vagueness but no spoilers here. 🤐

I thought it was a refreshing change of pace from Cora, and all in all, I enjoyed reading Only Work, No Play. Yes, it’s nothing like Cora’s mafia romance books but I liked that it was a lighter contemporary romance. A few issues here and there with how the story developed but it didn’t diminish Cora’s writing style. Whether it’d be dark or contemporary romance, it’s effortless to follow, the atmosphere in place, and the characters are intriguing to get to know.

If you like reading contemporary sports romance stories with alpha-hole heroes, then you might want to give this one a try!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐¾

“Wrapping my arms around him, I grip fistfuls of his shirt and hold onto him as if he’s my lifeline. He is.”

Buffy_Angel_DancingBW

This was a tough one to review, not because I didn’t like it— on the contrary, I was hooked! So much so I read it in one sitting! There were plenty of parts I ended up loving that’s still replaying in my mind as we speak.

But I’m not gonna sugarcoat this, it didn’t necessarily live-up to the expectation I had mentally prepared myself for before going in. Yes, this book has dark elements that can be triggering for some readers. Yes, it’s a suspenseful, crime romance, but if like me, and dark romance reads is your jam, then you may find this one average on the “dark romance” metre.

But what this story lacked in in-depth gritty, darkness, more than made up for in the romance department. I was gripped by the growing bond Daniel and JJ had. Not just romantically, but as partners in crime, and in their steadily developing friendship. There was an instant attraction between them that had me perking up with interest. Seeing them navigate their emotions for one another through dual POVs only made it that much more consuming to read through. 😍🤭 There’s an age-gap but with the dynamics that naturally formed between them, it works, and their relationship feels natural.

The cast of secondary characters all played vital roles in putting dimension into their world and added the support system both Daniel and JJ needed. There’s some strong camaraderie present that you tend to forget at times that not all these characters have the best of intentions. It’s a thought-provoking romance story that has you questioning right from wrong, and whether or not the actions (and reactions) of these characters are truly valid.

It’s relatively fast-paced storytelling, and as it progresses, the build-up increases and the atmosphere shifts to uneasiness and tension. You know just around the corner something big is about to unfold.

Because it was fast-paced, I did think some of the plot points concluded a little too abruptly especially since there was a nice, steady build-up at the beginning. There were a few minor moments that were a little anti-climactic for my liking, but nevertheless, it didn’t take anything away from my enjoying the book. As always, Michelle’s writing is effortless to follow, and you do immediately get attached to Daniel and JJ. They’re complex yet such likable characters.

I only discovered Michelle Heard and her books last year and after having read my first one, I immediately knew her books would be some of my favourite romance reads. Lifeline, like all her previous books is engaging, with intriguing characters, and an unpredictability to its storyline. It was its premise that initially had me wanting to read it, and it did not disappoint. Despite my wanting it be a little more dark and for a more extensive period of time, I was still thoroughly absorbed from start to finish and massively invested in seeing how Daniel’s and JJ’s story would play out.

What has me obsessed with Michelle’s dark romance books is whilst it has a sweet and swoon-worthy romance element, the storyline is weighty. The characters go through quite a journey and it’s nowhere near easy. Lifeline is definitely one of those books that could easily wreck you. It’s emotional, gut-wrenching, and mirrors real-life situations.

I haven’t read romantic crime fiction in years and this book was a great reminder that I need to read more of them in the future. The nail-biting intensity of what’s to come, along with the fist-clenching excitement of seeing a budding romance makes it doubly thrilling.

If you like dark-ish romances set in an underbelly crime world, then I recommend you give this one a go. It’s a standalone novel that can easily be read in one sitting. It has all the elements you can hope for in your reads— vivid world-building, a diverse cast of characters, a detailed, well-written plot, and desired character growth. I recommend it to fans of dark romance and/or romantic crime fiction.

There isn’t anything of Michelle Heard’s I haven’t read that I did not end up falling in love with. Lifeline is another winner, in my books. Daniel and JJ will linger with me for some time! 😊

— MY REVIEW —

“There’s no one in the world like Phoenix Walker.”

Concert_Groupies

It’s official… I am a groupie! 😍🤭 I loved the hell of out of this book. Love, love, love! And for that reason alone, The Words has been added to my list of all-time favourite romance reads!

Lennon and Phoenix had their hooks in me and was never going to let me walk away from their intense rollercoaster of a relationship (not that I wanted to, anyways). The ups and downs, the swooniness and suspense. I knew the minute I started their story that I was in for one mammoth of a reading experience, and I was right! Ashley Jade did not disappoint in delivering such a multi-dimensional, emotionally investing storyline alongside a winning cast of characters!

My gosh. I’m still reeling.

I’m going to say it now, if you enjoy rock star romance books, you have got to add this one to your TBR. If you’re new to the romance sub-genre, this is the book to get you hooked! Besides the strong musical backdrop, it had an amazing balance of romance, friendship, and family written-in that made Lennon’s and Phoenix’s stories immensely in-depth and full of heart.

It has a handful of elements, some of which I don’t necessarily openly look for in my books, but when they’re unexpectedly included, it certainly has me perking up. If you like any of the elements below in your romance reads, it’s a good reason to give this one a try:

  • Rock star romance
  • Second-chance romance
  • Opposite sides of the tracks
  • Friends-to-Lovers
  • Hate-to-Love
  • A bad boy hero
  • A curvy, nerdy heroine
  • New Adult

Fair warning, I found this to be one emotional read that constantly had me either in near tears or downright already bawling my eyes out. And what got me with these snot-inducing moments was the unpredictability of certain scenes that totally causes your heart to skip a couple beats.

Ashley Jade certainly knows how to write! Both Lennon’s and Phoenix’s individual life stories will just about give you chest pains with how realistic and relatable their situations are. They’re two opposites that somehow have plenty in common— which they gradually discover the more time they spend together. I thought the pacing was *chef’s kiss* perfect as it felt like you’re getting to know these two intriguing protagonists right along with them in real time. Having dual POVs made their story all the more fleshed-out as we experience events through both their eyes, and see reasonings behind their actions.

The Words is more than a simple love story. It’s heart-wrenching and thought-provoking. It touches on so many real-life topics, some of which I must say are sensitive subject matters. Please note this book may be triggering for some readers. It contains domestic abuse, child abuse, substance abuse, and violence. It also broaches on bullying and the psychological effects it has on one’s own health. It also contains mature sexual content intended for readers 18+ only.

Ashley Jade as put a lot of detail in her characters and their world that it was effortless to get invested in them. I found myself so wrapped up in their lives that the majority of the time I was mirroring their emotions. Whether they were giddy with excitement, dying from embarrassment, or seething with rage.

This book was unputdownable! The world-building was unbelievably vivid, and I adored the character development. Lennon’s and Phoenix’s story spans four years starting from their final year of high school. It’s within their final weeks of school where their lives alter and ends up catapulting Lennon and Phoenix in an angsty and complex second chance of a lifetime.

“Lennon Michael is my biggest craving and my biggest regret.”

Their story could easily have been overly heavy and depressing, but Ashley Jade has brilliantly added some much needed comic relief throughout to break up some of the tension and distress these characters go through. The supporting characters are quite a cast, all with huge personalities of their own. You’re bound to fall for at least one of them… if not more. 😉

I’m not going to lie, there were a few minor things that played out within the storyline that I wasn’t a big fan of. I won’t go into detail as this is one story I highly recommend you to experience for yourself, but when it came time to rate this book I realized in the grand scheme of things, it didn’t change the fact that as a whole I enjoyed reading it and legit did not want it to end.

(P.S. That sneaky peek was all too cruel, Ashley. It was barely a teaser. I needs more!) 🤤😭

I should also mention, whilst this is a standalone novel, the ending of this book is not your conventional HEA where everything is wrapped-up and there’s no need for second-guessing. In my opinion, it was more of an open-ended HEA. This book was only the beginning of Lennon’s and Phoenix’s story; an introduction of sorts to their new life. It’s not the type of ending I’m normally accustomed to with standalone novels, but their story is unlike anything I’ve read before, and the ending of this book was fitting, especially after everything that happened between them.

These characters are flawed, slightly broken, with insecurities that you may or may not relate to, but nevertheless sympathize with. You get to witness such growth, maturity, and over time, acceptance. It’s an utterly soul-stealing journey, one that I am so happy to have not missed out on. It’s a must read!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I met Colt Malene when I was fourteen years old.

And it seems I’ve never recovered.

He became the headstrong star quarterback in a town that idolized high school football titles.

We should have stayed far away from each other but we didn’t.

And the volatile fallout was unbearable.

More than a decade has passed and now my father is dying.

He wants to make amends.

He wants to be forgiven for the role he played in Colt’s ruinous downfall and my painful heartbreak.

To give a dying man some peace, Colt and I agree to a plan.

While Colt is here in town, we pretend to date.

We pretend to like each other.

We pretend that the past is buried and forgotten.

But with one reckless, passionate act we carve a new future.

Leading to a fate we never suspected.

In the middle of a storm we never saw coming.

• MY REVIEW •

“I never meant to fall in love with Colt Malene. I wasn’t supposed to. I’ve done it anyway. Again. I couldn’t help it, then or now.”

TVD_Stefan_ShySmile

After reading Till It Hurts and loving the strong trio of characters, I knew I needed more. Till Next Time is utter perfection that completely transported me back to their small town of Arcana, and to the trio who’ve reconnected as adults.

This story centred around Colt Malene and his life story. I couldn’t put it down! Cora has executed in telling his story and getting me emotionally invested right from the first few pages. The writing is effortless and vivid. It’s exactly the type of drama-filled contemporary romance I love to read. Fleshed-out, heartbreaking, yet nevertheless, inspiring.

Memories of past events weaved in between the present day not only gave Colt’s and Susanna’s personal stories so much depth and dimension, but it provided insight to their perspective households, families, and their developing relationship through their POVs.

The characters are complex and their lives are more than your average teenage rebellion against their parents. You see how much certain events that took place in their past have impacted and influenced their adulthood in the present.

You can’t help but feel for Colt. He had very little positivity in his life growing up, and it’s saddening to see his parents failed him as his much needed support system.

Susanna has her own issues and it becomes evident as the story progresses how much her life hadn’t ended up as initially planned.

It’s well-paced storytelling and these protagonists’ lives are not only touching to learn about, but they deal with life-long insecurities, along with some very heavy, realistic, and quite relatable issues along the way. I love the realism that Cora has imbedded in their story (along with Till It Hurts), it’s why I easily felt an attachment to these characters, especially Colt. They’re a likable pair of people, genuine characters with strong polar-opposite personalities.

The world-building is extraordinary— from Arcana; the little town that’s gradually wearing out over time, to the different backdrops that holds so many memories for Colt and Susanna, to the diverse range of supporting characters who all played significant roles in shaping them into who they are now and bring about contrasting dynamics.

I loved their journey. The highs and lows. It had the right amount of angst, drama, and suspense to keep you reading with bated breath, but also had moments of lightheartedness to keep it from veering towards an overly depressing atmosphere. Colt and Susanna come full circle by the end of the book that leaves you not only happy sighing with complete contentment but a little bittersweet knowing that with Till It Hurts and now, Till Next Time, all three friends have had their story told and we bid adieu to their world.

This is only my second book of Cora Brent’s but after having back-to-back exceptionally quality storytelling, I’ll be looking into her backlist of books for sure. Till Next Time is a must read along with Till It Hurts. You can definitely read them as standalone books without missing a beat as events and relationships are well explained… but I do highly recommend reading the pair!

Colt’s and Susanna’s story was one big “Sliding Doors” moment full of missed chances and what-ifs? The road to their HEA wasn’t an easy feat, but it’s an epic second-chance romance that was a long time coming and well worth the wait!

I was a nanny in need of a job.
He was darkness personified.
I had little to call my own.
He was filthy rich, powerful, and dangerous.
The assignment was simple, and my goal was too.
Take care of his son. Keep my head down. When he least expects it, destroy him.
It should have been easy. I thought it would be until I looked into his stark blue eyes.
Kissing the enemy is a bad idea, but so is falling in love with him.
He doesn’t know my crumbling foundation is built on lies.
When he discovers the truth, I’ll find out if he’s as brutal as I believe.
I came here to steal his life.
I didn’t count on him stealing my heart.

Oh my… I was taken for one, all-out journey of epic proportions with Kingdom Fall! All I could think of whilst reading this book was that it was visually appealing and truly felt like a literary cinematic experience! 😮😍

It had all the makings of what I adore (and hope for) in my dark romance reads. I love the immediate mystery surrounding Natalia and her motives for wanting the nanny position with Alessio. Right from their very first interaction, I was instantly sitting up and drawn to Natalia and wanting to know her personal story. You will discover that she’s quite a unique character— I, for one have never encountered a heroine with her background.

Alessio was a surprising anti-hero. His dangerous, broody, tortured self had a different vibe from your usual dark alpha-type heroes. His savageness is rarely on display so you tend to fall for his unfeeling, almost calm demeanor. But when he slips up, oh man, is it explosive! 🔥

This can easily be read in one sitting, but in no way does the storytelling feel hurried, on the contrary, the pacing is steady and brought on a gradual, intense build-up. You might even say there are nail-biting moments throughout and constant unpredictability. It’s one of the main reasons as to why I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it.

The constant push and pull between Natalia and Alessio that honestly gave me mental and emotional whiplash was another reason. 😅 The hot and heavy exchange between these protagonists in a story that is heavily surrounded in secrecy almost seemed like constant teasing and a game of second-guessing, not just for the characters, but for us readers as well. With the never-ending angst, not only will you quickly get in invested in seeing Natalia’s and Alessio’s relationship develop from professional to personal, but you’ll feel emotionally wrecked before the book even concludes.

I haven’t read a lot of romance stories with a single dad/ nanny romance trope, especially in a dark romance setting, so I found this one to be a nice change of pace from the dark, mafia type romance books I usually read. Whilst there are strong dark themes included, a lot of the story does centre around Alessio’s personal life outside of the violence. The dynamics amongst his close friends and family were such contrasts to see throughout and, in a way, kept the atmosphere from constantly turning overly gritty for too long.

In saying that, please note there are subject matters that some readers may find triggering. It contains graphic violence, torture, kidnapping, and brutal sexual assault. It’s not for the faint-hearted. Intended for readers 18+ only.

Ashleigh has written a suspenseful and though-provoking storyline that is so intricate and complex that I was almost taken aback by how meaty it was for a relatively quick standalone novel. I thought it was effortless writing to follow despite the multiple storylines happening simultaneously. It’s told from dual POVs, so you really get an insight into both Natalia’s and Alessio’s true feelings and opinions of each other and of certain situations.

There are a diverse range of secondary characters that equally grab your attention, and will undoubtedly have you eager to know their full story. Whether these characters are friend or foe, I thought they were all well-developed and written in so well to heighten the intensity of the story as it unfolds.

Cruel intentions, raunchy romance, endearing friendships, and at times heartbreaking realization. I loved it all. I loved seeing Natalia’s and Alessio’s character growth and in turn, seeing their relationship develop no matter how rocky their journey was. The family dynamics within were undoubtedly screwy and twisted, yet a focal point in making this one exciting and all-encompassing thrill ride.

If you like dark romance/ romantic suspense reads, I highly recommend this one! Although it’s a standalone book, it does mention a certain exclusive community that was first introduced in Zavarelli’s The Society Trilogy. If you want to more about this world and the history behind the families within (which Alessio is a part of), I recommend reading the trilogy too. It doesn’t have to be read prior to Kingdom of Fall.

The cocky footballer next door has some serious balls…

luckily, Daphney Clarke knows how to play.

Zander Williams is the hot new American determined to take European football by storm. His head is so big, it barely fits under his backwards hat. And when he’s recruited to one of the biggest up and coming clubs in London, he’s certain to make his name known.

Managing the building where they live is only one of Daphney’s many jobs. It’s why she has zero patience for the obnoxious American on the other side of the wall who makes the most ungodly noises and likes to answer his door in nothing but a pink tea towel.

Tensions build and after one steamy hallway kiss, neighbor wars quickly shifts into neighbors-with-benefits and that’s a battle they both intend to win.

But Daphney doesn’t know the real reason Zander is in London and now she’s stuck in the middle of a game she didn’t even know she was playing.

Wow. I’m having difficulty forming my emotions into words. This was one epic journey for both Zander and Daphney that I, as a reader felt honored to witness! I love the Harris Brothers series and the standalone books that followed set in the same world. They all centered around strong family dynamics, but in terms of family, love, and growth, Sweeper just had a different vibe. 😊

Amy has written a beautiful, fleshed-out story that dealt with complex family situations and real struggles that one can easily relate to. It could very well have been a story that was entirely set in a melancholic atmosphere, but whether you’re familiar with Amy’s writing or not, you can undoubtedly expect some light-heartedness and uplifting mood-boosting scenes for balance.

The storytelling of this standalone had steady-pacing with gradual development and build-up. It’s multi-faceted, having a couple of secondary storylines developing right alongside Zander’s and Daphney’s quirky growing relationship.

Right from the very beginning, I was invested in not only Zander’s and Daphney’s spark-inducing romance, but Zander’s own personal story. With the internal struggles and second-guessing he constantly goes through in this book, you can’t help but sympathize and if possible dive into his life and be some kind of support system that he so desperately wanted and needed.

This book will have you going from one end of the emotional scale to the other. I went from tearing up from the situation that Zander has found himself in, to smiling like a total loon, to giggling senselessly, to bawling my eyes out. It’s an emotional journey, not only for these characters but for the reader as well. But despite the drama-filled rollercoaster ride, I came away from the book feeling exhaustedly happy, sighing with contentment, and mentally looking back at how far the Harris family have evolved over time.

Besides the personal issues that both Zander and Daphney are working through, there were plenty of fun moments. The flirty banter and the language barrier were probably two of my favourite highlights. I lost count of how many times I nodded my head and laughed my ass off in agreement. It’s a next-door neighbour, friends-with-benefits type deal between these two protagonists, and at first I found their little pact unusual albeit amusing, but as the story progresses, you see a gradual shift from their initial dynamic. I love how their relationship developed because it just felt so authentic. Even though it was a relatively short time frame from when they first met to them hooking up, it didn’t at all feel rushed.

The book also includes an immensely strong cast of supporting characters that all played vital roles in assisting to bring about Zander’s and Daphney’s story. Not only do they help set the mood, but they’re presence immediately has you gripping the pages because you quickly come to realize that they’re an unpredictable bunch! Amy always seems to have such likable personalities in her books and after having read Sweeper, I’m already hoping to see more of the characters featured in this story in the future.

If I had to nitpick, I would’ve liked the sense of a more completed ending. There’s no epilogue and whilst I normally don’t mind, this is a standalone novel and I felt like it concluded with an open-ended finish. Some matters were resolved, certain “chapters” in these characters’ lives have gracefully closed, but where Zander and Daphney are concerned, it almost seemed like the end was really just the beginning for the couple… yet not really, either.

But nevertheless, it’s not at all a big issue (I’m just fussy), as I adored their story so much! It’s definitely a recommended read from me to fellow romance readers.

Two truly lovable, sweet, and funny-as protagonists. They have such chemistry that leaps off the pages and comes off so believable. I swooned. I love the interactions between them. Zander being a professional soccer player and Daphney being an indie singer/songwriter was an interesting contrast. Other than the next-door neighbours with benefits aspect of the storyline, you’ll enjoy seeing the attraction between these two opposites and the moments in which they slowly yet unknowingly start to fall in love.

Perfect balance of romance, comradery, and sports elements. It’s hearty, in-depth, and just really makes you question, “What would you do if you were in Zander’s situation?

Told from dual POVs, this story is more than meets the eye!

P.S. The backdrop will give you such wanderlust. No joke! I’ve always wanted to holiday in London, and this book only reiterated the fact that it’s on my bucket list for a reason! 😍🤗
