Enrico Marchetti.

One of the five Italian mafia kings.

Powerful. Untouchable. Corrupt.

It started with one innocent look across a room in Paris. He was a lot older than me. A Roman god dressed in an Italian suit, surrounded by an aura I couldn’t resist.

When I ran into him again, he effortlessly pulled me under his spell. But little did I know, a night full of carnal pleasure would cost me everything.

When Enrico Marchetti wanted something, he didn’t just take it. He possessed it. Now, his sights were set on me. There were secrets this man was keeping. They surrounded him, his dead wife, his children.  I wanted no part of it, but there was no escaping him. He had taken me to his kingdom, locked the doors, and thrown away the key.

Now the only thing left to do was fight. Even if it killed me.

Only a bad nanny knows what it’s like to kiss the boss.

CEO millionaire, Max Fletcher is a single dad in desperate need of a nanny.

Cozy Barlow is in the middle of her self-appointed “gap year” and doing everything she can to detach from her past.

But when her sister begs her to interview for the nanny position of a high maintenance client, she doesn’t have a good enough reason to say no.

And when Max locks eyes on the twenty-something in a tie-dye sweatsuit who pitches the idea of daydreaming all summer—he prepares to give this bad nanny the boot.

One problem: Max’s little girl thinks this plus-sized in body and spirit nanny might be her new bestie, so she hires her on the spot.

Now Max is stuck with this bizarre woman who hates everything he represents—corporate greed, money, status, power.

But one stormy night when the power goes out, he discovers Cozy doesn’t hate him. In fact, he’s the leading role in her fantasies.

Fantasies, he would very much like to make a reality.

“You’ve inspired me to start dreaming again.”

ChrisEvans_DreamySmile

I can’t stop smiling.

I’ve lost count of how many times Daws has killed me over the years, brought me back to life, only to kill me again! This book… GAH! THIS BOOK!! 😍😍 It’s undoubtedly up there with the likes of Keeper, Blindsided, and Sweeper as my top, top, top favourite books by the epic rom-com queen!

I need to re-read this book again. I need to grab myself the paperback. And if Kate’s (aka Mercedes Lee Loveletter) drool-worthy book box turns into a real thing, you can bet I will need to get my grabby little hands onto that too… because umm hello?! Cocktuterie boards!? Yes, please! *vigorously nods head* 🤭🙌

I love how it started out as a solid romantic comedy that turned into one of those sappy, pull-at-your-heartstrings love stories that completely had my eyes glistening and nose twitching with a sudden case of the sniffles. It’s utter comfort read that only Daws can deliver with finesse!

As I cuddled under my blankets in bed with a packet of double chocolate-chip bikkies, my portable heater turned up to keep me toasty warm, and my kindle barely a feet away from my face, I quickly realised as these characters divulged their backstories that I was going to have a serious problem putting this book down until I finished it.

From the complexity, to the winning characters and dual points of view, to the well-paced storytelling, to the vivid world-building I was effortlessly transported to— all these elements played a factor in making this book unforgettable.

✔ Opposites Attract

✔ Age-Gap Romance

✔ Workplace Romance

✔ Nanny/ Single Dad

✔ Grumpy/ Sunshine

✔ Romantic Comedy

✔ Contemporary Romance

✔ Summer Fling

Putting aside the romantic aspect between Cassandra and Max and all the blessed light-hearted scenes throughout this story, it also broaches on a handful of sensitive subject matters that not only elevated the overall dimension but added a depth of relatability for so many of us. It depicts strong personal insecurities with body image, social issues and expectancies with one’s sexuality, the struggles with mental health, and even just day-to-day emotional conflicts—whether it be connected to work obligations, relationships, family dynamics, and/or one’s own deep-rooted fears in how life is panning out.

I personally resonated with a couple of them, whilst other topics I found eye-opening; but nevertheless, all very thought-provoking matters that was weaved into Cassandra’s and Max’s story beautifully. Daws has cleverly included these important issues (with the assistance of sensitivity readers) whilst keeping an overall light and entertaining atmosphere to the book.

I’m hard-pressed to find a fault. It’s exactly the type of contemporary romance read I hope to find more of. It’s equal parts guilty pleasure to hearty romance read. I welcomed the emotional rollercoaster it took me on, the unpredictability of where these protagonists’ relationship headed, and the amount of secondary characters that filled the spaces in-between providing more layers, more interactions, more insight. And can I just say how much I truly appreciate Daws for creating a fictional child who didn’t grate on my nerves?! 🙏 Thank you! Everly is just as much a crucial character as Cassandra and Max, and the contrast and dynamics between the three are… *chef’s kiss* awe-inspiring! All with gripping character developments to boot!

A heart-warming standalone novel (the final book) in the Wait With Me series— that yes, I would absolutely recommend to all adult romance readers! It has quirky characters with big, bold personalities, blush-inducing sexual content, and tons of LOL moments. It’s a quintessential contemporary rom-com that will have you swooning for grand gestures, believing in HEAs, and wishing for a handsome, dirty-talking, delicious-smelling millionaire Max Fletcher of your very own! 😜😁

I dare any romance reader out there to read it and not walk away in happy contentment!

A nanny is what I am.I’m a good one, too. When I’m hired by a biker and his rich woman, I can’t say no.I can’t afford to say no.I’ve never worked for a biker before, and I certainly haven’t worked for one who is this damned moody and did I mention oh, so gorgeous?Still, here I am.I need the money.I need to escape my past.I need something, anything, to make the demons go away. What I didn’t sign up for was the rich bitch he decided to reproduce with. Not only does she hate me, but she’s from the most wealthy family in town.My days are now filled with country clubs, galas and dressing a baby in clothes I could never afford in my lifetime.Did I mention the other nannies? The stuck up ones? The ones who hate me?Yeah, there’s them.Lucky for me, I have him.A connection that’s undeniable.Only, he’s everything I shouldn’t want.A biker? Bad news.I’m their nanny, even worse.Yet, their relationship is toxic.A one night stand gone wrong. An attempt to make things right for a baby he didn’t know he even wanted.I’m not in the position to be in the middle of that…Yet, there’s something there…Something between us that’s undeniable. This isn’t going to end well…

• MY REVIEW •

A bittersweet ending to the Turf Wars series. I’ve enjoyed them all, as each one has been such entertaining reads. Clash of the Nannies is a secret/ nanny romance with a bit of a love triangle twist.

What made this book for me was Hugh. Aw swoon! 😍😍 He is probably the sweetest biker/ hero from the entire series, hands down! As the story progresses, you steadily see Hugh’s character growth from a biker with no commitments to becoming a responsible adult needing to take care of another human being.

Supernatural_Dean_HoldingBaby

Maggie is not your conventional nanny. She’s an opinionated heroine and she will put her two cents in for any situation. What made Maggie relatable to me is she’s a heroine of Asian descent—and to be more specific, one of a Filipino background. She represented some cultural diversity not just within this story but within the Turf Wars world, albeit she’s only partly Asian and her mixed heritage doesn’t play a huge part in her character, but it’s still a rarity (at least for me) to find a Filipino character in any of my reads, especially one who plays a main character.

The storyline also broaches on serious subject matters such as social standing, prejudices, and bullying. The experiences Maggie is confronted with are relatable, real-life situations, and although these topics are sensitive, especially for those who can relate, Jewel has written-in determined characters and has tried to keep the overall atmosphere as lighthearted to ensure it doesn’t become too dramatic or deflating.

Overall, another amusing rom-com with minimal MC elements in the background. Just like the previous books in the series, it was told solely from the heroine’s perspective. It’s a relatively short read with fast-paced storytelling, and because of that reason the conclusion ended quite abruptly with relatively quick resolutions (considering it’s the final book in the series). There are plot points that were left unanswered, and unexpected new ones introduced last minute that left me feeling a little taken aback. It was a lot to process in a short amount of time. 😱

I’m not a big fan of the ending, in general. Whilst bonds and friendships were constantly developing and expanding with each new book in the series, with this book it culminated with strong “end of an era” vibes that had me a little taken aback. As I mentioned earlier, it really is bittersweet.

However, putting the ending aside along with the quick resolutions, I did enjoy the growing friends-to-lovers relationship between Hugh and Maggie. It’s a nice change of pace from the enemies-to-lovers/ hate-to-love storylines from the previous books. It centres around Maggie’s day-to-day duties as a nanny in a high society environment. It has great balance of romance, family, and friendship within the storyline that I thought were real winning elements.

I recommend the entire series. Although it’s MC-lite, I honestly didn’t mind that the club was the background as it gave way to each of the hero’s personal life almost outside of it. You still get hot bikers without the dark MC elements. It’s a great series for readers who want to slowly transition into MC romance reads without having delve into the grittiness just yet.

I was a nanny in need of a job.
He was darkness personified.
I had little to call my own.
He was filthy rich, powerful, and dangerous.
The assignment was simple, and my goal was too.
Take care of his son. Keep my head down. When he least expects it, destroy him.
It should have been easy. I thought it would be until I looked into his stark blue eyes.
Kissing the enemy is a bad idea, but so is falling in love with him.
He doesn’t know my crumbling foundation is built on lies.
When he discovers the truth, I’ll find out if he’s as brutal as I believe.
I came here to steal his life.
I didn’t count on him stealing my heart.

• MY REVIEW •

Oh my… I was taken for one, all-out journey of epic proportions with Kingdom Fall! All I could think of whilst reading this book was that it was visually appealing and truly felt like a literary cinematic experience! 😮😍

It had all the makings of what I adore (and hope for) in my dark romance reads. I love the immediate mystery surrounding Natalia and her motives for wanting the nanny position with Alessio. Right from their very first interaction, I was instantly sitting up and drawn to Natalia and wanting to know her personal story. You will discover that she’s quite a unique character— I, for one have never encountered a heroine with her background.

Alessio was a surprising anti-hero. His dangerous, broody, tortured self had a different vibe from your usual dark alpha-type heroes. His savageness is rarely on display so you tend to fall for his unfeeling, almost calm demeanor. But when he slips up, oh man, is it explosive! 🔥

TVD_DamonElena_KissToNeck

This can easily be read in one sitting, but in no way does the storytelling feel hurried, on the contrary, the pacing is steady and brought on a gradual, intense build-up. You might even say there are nail-biting moments throughout and constant unpredictability. It’s one of the main reasons as to why I couldn’t put this book down until I finished it.

The constant push and pull between Natalia and Alessio that honestly gave me mental and emotional whiplash was another reason. 😅 The hot and heavy exchange between these protagonists in a story that is heavily surrounded in secrecy almost seemed like constant teasing and a game of second-guessing, not just for the characters, but for us readers as well. With the never-ending angst, not only will you quickly get in invested in seeing Natalia’s and Alessio’s relationship develop from professional to personal, but you’ll feel emotionally wrecked before the book even concludes.

I haven’t read a lot of romance stories with a single dad/ nanny romance trope, especially in a dark romance setting, so I found this one to be a nice change of pace from the dark, mafia type romance books I usually read. Whilst there are strong dark themes included, a lot of the story does centre around Alessio’s personal life outside of the violence. The dynamics amongst his close friends and family were such contrasts to see throughout and, in a way, kept the atmosphere from constantly turning overly gritty for too long.

In saying that, please note there are subject matters that some readers may find triggering. It contains graphic violence, torture, kidnapping, and brutal sexual assault. It’s not for the faint-hearted. Intended for readers 18+ only.

Feelings_On_Off

Ashleigh has written a suspenseful and though-provoking storyline that is so intricate and complex that I was almost taken aback by how meaty it was for a relatively quick standalone novel. I thought it was effortless writing to follow despite the multiple storylines happening simultaneously. It’s told from dual POVs, so you really get an insight into both Natalia’s and Alessio’s true feelings and opinions of each other and of certain situations.

There are a diverse range of secondary characters that equally grab your attention, and will undoubtedly have you eager to know their full story. Whether these characters are friend or foe, I thought they were all well-developed and written in so well to heighten the intensity of the story as it unfolds.

TVD_DamonElena_Kisses

Cruel intentions, raunchy romance, endearing friendships, and at times heartbreaking realization. I loved it all. I loved seeing Natalia’s and Alessio’s character growth and in turn, seeing their relationship develop no matter how rocky their journey was. The family dynamics within were undoubtedly screwy and twisted, yet a focal point in making this one exciting and all-encompassing thrill ride.

If you like dark romance/ romantic suspense reads, I highly recommend this one! Although it’s a standalone book, it does mention a certain exclusive community that was first introduced in Zavarelli’s The Society Trilogy. If you want to more about this world and the history behind the families within (which Alessio is a part of), I recommend reading the trilogy too. It doesn’t have to be read prior to Kingdom of Fall.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

Sweet Temptation by Cora Reilly

— BLURB —

The first time Cassio met his fiancée, she called him ‘Sir’.

After losing his wife, Cassio is left to take care of two small children while trying to establish his rule over Philadelphia. Now he needs a mother for his children, and someone who can warm his bed at night.

But in a traditional world as his, choosing your wife is duty not pleasure.

Rules have to be followed. Traditions heeded.

That’s how he ends up with a woman—a girl barely of age. She might not be what he and his children need, but she’s wicked lovely and a sweet temptation he can’t resist.

Giulia always knew she’d marry a man her father chose for her. Only she never expected to be given to someone much older. Suddenly she’s supposed to be a mother to two small children when she hasn’t even held a baby in her life.

Giulia quickly realizes that Cassio isn’t interested in a relationship on equal footing. Her mother always warned her that men of power like Cassio don’t tolerate insolence; yet, tired of being treated as a nanny and clueless child-bride, Giulia decides to fight for her vision of a happy family.

— MY REVIEW —

SoundOfMusic_HillsAreAlive

I ate this one up like I hadn’t eaten in months! A fucking phenomenal read! It’s crazy thinking about what I had just witnessed in this book. Despite it being a mafia romance, the story itself in the forefront is simply about a man in desperate need of care.

Yes, there’s blood, and death, and secrets (it wouldn’t be the Mafia world without these elements) — but Sweet Temptation lives up to its name. This was a sweet, tender, and overall tamer story in comparison to Cora’s previous mafia books. It centers around Cassio’s personal life and the impact Giulia has in it.

ChanningTatum_EwI haven’t read a lot of romance books where there’s a significant age gap, and the majority of the ones I have read I was never completely sold on because they seemed somewhat a smidge cringy..?

← (I don’t want to say “ew” but just know…)

But Cassio and Giulia’s pairing was just effortless. They had their awkward (and yet, oh-so-hilarious) first encounter that I think solidified them as a couple for me. From that moment on I was truly invested in seeing how their relationship would unfold.

And ohhhhhhh boy.. the button pushing was a highlight. I always enjoy when the heroine doesn’t back down from a challenge and this one was an absolute enjoyment to watch (or should I say read) play out.

“I gave you an order. I’m your husband and my word is law.”

Anastasia_TongueOut

Polar opposites, yet somehow they balanced each other so well. Giulia is a likeable character. There is no way in hell you could dislike the chick. She’s got backbone, determination, and heart. Despite being raised in this world, she grew up to be a strong, independent individual with her own tastes and opinions. Other than her stubbornness, what I liked about her most is that she didn’t try and change herself to fit in, and she didn’t try to change Cassio either. She’s definitely now in my top 3 favourite heroines of Cora’s.

And Cassio…

“They were too eager marrying me off to the cruelest Underboss of the Famiglia.”

TVD_EnzoSmile

is… dreamy. OMG. He. Is. Dreaaaaamy!

I’ve given up trying to put into order my fave Made Men because it’s just gonna get all screwed up anyways whenever Cora releases a new book. Before going into Sweet Temptation, I really didn’t have an opinion one way or another about Cassio. I’m all for alpha type males (like give em here!), but once in a while when you come across one who doesn’t need to flex their ego, and is simply a gentleman… you can’t help but wipe a little drool off your chin. That gentleman my friends, is Cassio!

If I could include every single quote and action of his that made me giddy in this review I would. There’s a lot of things I didn’t mention or discuss in this review for the sole purpose of not spoiling something you guys need to experience first hand. All I can say is make sure you have a day to spend reading this because I am 100% sure you will not put it down until you reach the last page.

And by that last page you will be feeling a sense of peace.

Sweet Temptation had the right amount of light and dark, humor and seriousness. I did NOT ugly cry reading this one.. buuuuut it doesn’t mean it didn’t punch me in the guts anyways. There were a lot of things in this book that had me taken aback. And a lot of people who were in desperate need of a good right hook!

But in all seriousness.. Did I miss the violence and more of the mafia side of things in this one? Not at all. It was a refreshing change to have the focus solely on the hero’s life outside of that brutality. You still get the gist of his role in it, the power he has, and his reputation amongst the people in their world (trust me), but the mafia aspect is toned-down.

In all honesty I was flipping back and forth from giving this one 4.5 to the full 5 stars. At the end of the day the reason why I ended up with my rating is because whilst this book had characters from Born in Blood, it is overall a standalone. And as a story all on its own, whether I had read or known about the series beforehand hadn’t mattered because I loved every minute of it! It was beautifully written, well-paced, giving us growth in the relationship with every new chapter. You can see the progress, the changes in the family dynamics, the gradual openness, love and care.

I’ve always thought Cora’s books had an array of story lines — each book, pairing, and situation a little different from the others, but after reading Sweet Temptation I saw a completely different side to her Mafia world. Cassio and Giulia’s almost seemed the most… normal? of relationships… lol (which is kinda funny considering what truths are revealed in the book) — but there was no game playing, no ulterior motives. Despite the hardships in their marriage, it was also a partnership! 😀 It oozes pure love and legit sets the bar for relationships in this fictional twisted, gritty world.

You don’t have to be fan or familiar with mafia romances to give this one a go. Being a fan of romance books is more than enough, and this one is a beauty. But please note, there’s a subject matter within that may trigger some readers.

RATING: ♥♥♥♥♥/5

P.S. I will never look at sunflowers again without thinking of Cassio and Giulia 😛
