Can a face from my past change my future?

When an invitation shows up out of the blue, I’m reminded of a promise I made to a girl twenty years ago and suddenly my heart is pounding.

Do I dare keep it?

She’s the one girl that ever meant a damn to me, and the one girl that got away. She walked out of my life once and it devastated me. Now life is giving me another shot, but if she walks out on me a second time I don’t think I’ll survive it.

Second chances don’t come around very often. Not for a one-percent biker like me. There are no do-overs in the MC life. Not when you’re staring down the barrel of a gun. Not when you’re deciding whether to pull the trigger.

But love? Maybe for once the luck of the Irish will shine down on me and give me a second chance with the one girl I let slip through my fingers.

Living with regret is a hard pill to swallow.

Living with the same regret twice? Impossible.

Sometimes facing your past can be the scariest thing you’ll ever do.

• MY REVIEW •

📎 Note: I originally read Green’s story in the Twisted Steel Anthology and this was my review. After the recent release of Green’s book (with the new content included), I reread it and have revised my review. 😊

Biker_CoupleRide

I’m a huge fan of James’ Evil Dead MC series and this story was a much anticipated one from a very much loved character: Green!

And lemme tell you… it doesn’t disappoint in regards to making me swoon more-so over Green! His story was short and sweet, and shows a completely different side to him that I hadn’t expected (in a good way)! For those who aren’t familiar with this Evil Dead MC brother, Green is considered the guy who doesn’t really take himself or anything too seriously. He’s warm fuzzies and funny to boot but was never into wanting to settle down. Until of course… his story! 😉

He’s older now, most of his fellow MC brothers have settled down and started families of their own, and it’s made him really think about his future. Opportunities to get his life in order come through in the way of moving back into his childhood home, and receiving an invitation to his high school reunion. The possibility of seeing Sara, his old high school girlfriend in this reunion has him reminiscing their time together and how their relationship ended all those years ago. It’s given him the mindset that seeing her in this reunion and catching-up could be their second chance to reconnect romantically.

When I initially read Green’s story in the anthology, I was instantly hooked but felt it was too short and hoped that when the time came for James to release his own book that she would extend his story further. Well… wish granted! 🙏 James included extra scenes with Green and his fellow club brothers, making this MC-lite romance story just a smidge more balanced out with MC elements and romance. The scenes that take place also sets up future stories that I am giddy and raring to read!

It’s addictive and I couldn’t read it fast enough, but I also think there were certain developments between Green and Sara that could’ve been more in-depth. But knowing James’ characters tend to make appearances and crossovers throughout her books, I’m not too phased as there’s a high probability we’ll get to see more of Green and Sara in the future.

I’m not always a fan of flashbacks to the past in storylines as it can get a bit tedious and slow the pacing down but in this case the flashbacks provided in Green’s story elevated the moments and gave his relationship with Sara some complexity. Despite the length of the story being on the shorter side, James managed to get me effortlessly invested in Green’s and Sara’s relationship. I was already a big fan of Green but Sara’s a completely new character. In a short span, I already found myself liking her personality and overall presence.

I do adore the fact that they had history. It makes their relationship believable, especially with how quickly things progressed in the story. Although it’s been twenty years, I love that they were so in-sync with one another like no time had passed.

– MC Romance
– High School Sweethearts
– Second Chance Romance

This was more MC-lite in comparison to the previous books from James’ Evil Dead MC series. I didn’t necessarily mind it because it certainly sets it apart from the other brothers’ stories where theirs had more darker plotlines. Green’s and Sara’s definitely centred more on the romantic side of this MC romance story. I love the reconnecting/ second-chance aspect and that it was Green who ended up having this trope — it provided him with more dimension from his usual light-hearted, jokey side that I constantly saw throughout in the series. He was always the comic relief amongst the brothers in the MC and whenever he made an appearance in any of the books his scenes were instant LOL moments, so his story was much anticipated. Overall, I’m happy to say it lived up to what I hoped it would be. It’s swoon-worthy. We get to learn more about Green outside of the club, and we get to meet the chick who snagged Green’s heart. It held my complete attention from beginning to end! #TeamGreen #TeamIrish 🍀

A sweet and relatively short MC-lite romance story you can easily read in one sitting, and will have you happy sighing by the end. The world James has created and expanded never ceases to amaze me, and this story is a fab addition to her series! It’s a must-read for her fans, and more specifically avid fans of her Evil Dead MC series. It can technically be read as a standalone but your experience with Green and his club would be so much more heighted if you read the series from the beginning.

Rocker Charlotte Justice longs to escape her hectic life. Her estranged twin sister, Scarlett, owns Badlands, a biker bar outside Vegas, and has always wanted a chance at the limelight she feels was stolen from her.

On a whim, they decide to switch places like they did when they were kids.

What harm could it do?

Charlotte had no idea that the escape she planned would leave her on the receiving end of creepy texts, phone calls and “gifts” left at her door. Flying blind in her new role, pretending to be someone she’s not, Charlotte learns more about her secretive sister than she ever imagined.

On top of all of that, she’s doing everything she can to escape the sexy-as-sin MC President demanding she pay back the debt she owes him–that or sell him the bar.

Could the person stalking her also be the President of the Evil Dead MC’s Las Vegas Chapter? An alpha male who’s come-on to her in a won’t-take-no-for-an-answer kind of way that has her wondering just how badly she wants to say no.

Does he want Badlands badly enough to scare her into selling out?

Or is he the only one who can save her from a madman?

Charlotte will have to solve the mystery if she’s going to save the bar, and possibly her very life.

“For a girl like you, I’m willin’ to put in the effort.”

I’m flailing my arms in excitement and in desperation of the next book! Eeeep! Nicole James has smashed it again! See, this is why she is an auto-buy author of mine. She never fails at keeping her readers engaged with her stories and invested in her characters— and this little reader right here was hooked from the second Charlotte and her twin sister Scarlett started swapping clothes and spontaneously decided to temporarily trade lives!

KateUpton_Fans

Nicole has plenty of books under her belt and all the ones I’ve read so far have had some pretty amazing storylines. This one stood out with its intriguing premise. It’s a trading places storyline weaved into a light MC romance. It has a more contemporary romance feel in comparison to Nicole’s other MC romance books. With its small town setting, the world-building heavily revolves around the protagonists, Charlotte and Daytona. There was an immediate connection between the two that automatically had me sitting up in attention. Despite some serious tension and danger in the air, the story still had an overall light atmosphere to it.

Similarly to Nicole’s other books, this one had plenty of heated banter between its hero and heroine, alongside some lighthearted comic-relief ribbing courtesy of the secondary characters— who so happens to be the brothers from the bright and shiny new Evil Dead MC Las Vegas Chapter! 😍😍

If you’ve read her Evil Dead MC series, then the introduction of a brand, spankin’ new Chapter would make your eyes pop-out-of-its-socket giddy! It practically means new blood, and I for one, am all for it!

Daytona is the President of this chapter but right off the bat I discovered he’s different from the other Evil Dead MC Chapter Presidents. He may be a badass alpha biker, but he’s openly affectionate, straightforward, and doesn’t play games. He knows what he wants, and it’s evident when he first lays eyes on Charlotte.

Charlotte is rightfully skeptical of Daytona and his motives, especially considering she’s currently living life as her sister. I would’ve loved to have seen more character development from both (especially Charlotte) but with how the story played out and especially how this book concluded, I’m hoping there’s a lot more to reveal in the next book.

The story is told from first person, dual points of view, and progressed in a relatively fast-pacing. There’s a lot of things happening that’ll keep you on your toes. It’s insta-romance with a layer of crime thriller added. There’s lots of suspense and second-guessing that it was hard to predict where the story would lead.

Please note, there are certain sensitive subject matters within the story that may be triggering for some readers. Besides the mature sexual content, it also contains violence, stalking, and kidnapping. This book is for mature audiences 18+ only.

The romance elements are swoony and had just the perfect amount of sweetness. It might have been on the insta-love side as far as romantic relationships go but it wasn’t at all unconvincing. They may have gotten together relatively quickly but there’s genuine interest in getting to know each other in more depth. You get Daytona’s backstory and an understanding of his mentality and how he lives his life. And with the arrival of this new Evil Dead MC Chapter, I was instantly curious about all the new club members who were introduced right alongside Daytona in this book. They may have only had minor roles in this story but they definitely made quite an impression! 😊

It’s a relatively shorter full-length novel but it was jam-packed full of detail and dimension, and the story didn’t stray away from its initial narrative. Nicole created a vivid world that I was effortlessly transported to. These characters go through a whirlwind of emotions and a rollercoaster of drama that you can’t help but sympathize. Even though this is fictional and some of the plots are dramatized, the situations that Charlotte and Daytona find themselves in are real-life, relatable experiences. Their lives are complex and their feelings are understandable and seem realistic.

Overall, I found it to be a hearty story and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. There was constant buzz and build-up throughout that it was hard not to be gripped by it all. I was truly bummed to see it end and knowing I’d have to wait a little while for the release of book two. It ends on a cliffhanger but I’m relieved to see it concluded in a way where this particular part of Charlotte’s and Daytona’s story was somewhat settled…? Their relationship may be up in the air for the time being but the cat’s outta the bag and now we’ll just have to see how it all plays out from there. *dun dun duuuuun* Eeep.

If you enjoy reading about alpha heroes who have a gentlemanly side to them, and fiery heroines with backbone, then I recommend you give this one a try.

Definitely a must read for any Nicole James fan. I think this story is a great introduction for romance readers wanting to try MC romance books— whilst it certainly contains MC romance elements, it’s not completely MC heavy. It’s also technically an age-gap romance but it’s hardly noticeable, in my opinion.

Ramona knows pain and she wears it behind a perfectly made-up mask of laughter, sass and a personality that makes most men weak at the knees.

Emphasis on most men.

Because there happens to be one man her charm doesn’t work on…Adan.

Member of the gorgeous biker club who took over the garage next to her best friend Eve’s café. Oh, and there’s one more tiny little thing…he’s now her patient.

After suffering burns in a fire, Adan lost the ability to use not one, but both of his hands. Enter Ramona. Registered nurse on her first job since completing her degree. And of course she’s put with the gorgeous, grumpy, rough biker who wants nothing more than for her to leave him the hell alone.

But, alas, she simply cannot.

Stuck together, there is nothing Ramona can do…except her job.

The problem is Adan is making her job very difficult. Not only does he live like he’s running a brothel, but the man refuses to do anything she asks him. He’s irritated and barely speaks, and when he does speak, it’s usually to insult her.

Not going down without a fight, Ramona does everything she can to keep her spirits high, including tormenting the poor man at every chance she gets. She’ll get him to laugh before her time with him is over.

Adan will like her.

And she will complete this job with a glowing review.

Not matter the cost.
No matter the game.

He’ll get a Heart-On for her…and she’ll make damned sure of it.

• MY REVIEW •

Ooo Wee! This was a such an improvement from the first book! So, so much more gripping and hits you in the feels! 😍 I can’t help but think Bella has gone through the reviews for Biker Schmiker and made some tweaks to ensure Heart-On would be better perceived. And boy, just like that, she has made this series loads more exciting now!

OohLala

The lightheartedness is still very much present. The contemporary romance aspect is still more prominent than the MC element but it’s still a swoon-worthy MC romance story! Just like in the previous book, this one had plenty of entertaining banter between the protagonists. You get a snippet of their chemistry in Biker Schmiker but by the start of this book, that chemistry has turned electric due to Ramona’s and Adan’s forced proximity.

First off — the premise was intriguing as hell. After Adan gets caught up in a freak accident involving arson resulting in his hands being badly burnt and now in need of constant medical care, in comes Ramona, a newly licensed nurse, and her first job? Yep, being Adan’s personal home care nurse! *mic drop*

The heated exchange from these two were on a level a smidge more entertaining to see than Eve and Riggs (not going lie). They butt heads, are constantly challenging one another and throughout it all they battle the sexual tension between them.

Similarly to Riggs in Biker Schmiker, Adan is a bit of womanizer. He’s not a complete manwhore but he’s definitely indecisive when it comes to who he wants. There’s a bit of love triangle going on here. Some angst. Some drama. And, most certainly some racy scenes!

Please note: It contains violence and sexual content suitable for readers 18+ only!

This book also contains cheating. If you have issues with this matter in your romance stories, then you might want to give this one a miss.

Whilst I enjoyed Ramona’s and Adan’s story a lot, there were some questionable decisions made and situations that had my eyebrows raising and my jaw dropping with disbelief. But don’t get me wrong, it’s all to do with the fact that I got so invested in their story. It was a rollercoaster ride that had me on the edge of my seat eager to see what would happen next because I can tell ya… bomb after bomb just kept on dropping! 😱

Another relatively quick read. I wished it was longer, but on the other hand I like the fact the Bella is consistent in keeping each book in this series a certain length. They’re short but action-packed, full of suspense, and the romantic elements will have you hooked. There’s also a secondary story or two happening simultaneously that adds dimension to Ramona’s and Adan’s story and enhances the world-building.

The rest of the MC members are back to add more fun to this already light, romcom-ish story, and you get to see appearances from Eve and Riggs from the first book too! This may only be the second book in the series but I already adore the friendships and the extra oomph they bring into each story.

I love that with each new couple we get to know a bit about more about their backstory and see their character growth further. Ramona is an in-your-face, independent, and fiery heroine. She’s loud, proud, and confident. Adan is man who’s not only a badass biker, but who knows his strengths. He’s cocky and arrogant at times but in a easy-going funny way that makes you giggle. His inability to read women—or should I say Ramona was a hilarious bonus to see!

They have a quirky hate/love relationship going on there, but somewhat of a caring friendship has formed too where they got to know each other on a deeper level. I thought their emotions were relatable and realistic, and the frustration and second-guessing from Ramona was totally spot-on for the situation she found herself in with Adan.

Ugh. Such a fun read that I will undoubtedly reread over an over whenever I’m in need of a mood-booster! I highly recommend this book, and whilst it can be read as a standalone I would still recommend you start with the first one as the characters are linked and some of the context included do lead up to the next story in the series. You’ll also have a better understanding of how the characters interconnect and the level of their relationships.

If you enjoy hate-to-love romances that have an element of game-playing between the protagonists, then give this one try. The MC element is there but it’s more contemporary romance. It’s well paced, and like the first book, told solely from the heroine’s point of view. Whilst I would’ve liked to have Adan’s as well, in comparison to the first book, the hero’s POV wasn’t as strongly needed in this one. It’s character driven as the majority of the story revolves around Ramona’s feelings and perspective.

It had so many elements I so truly hoped to find in my romance books:

  • Hate-to-love/ Enemies-to-lovers
  • Romantic Comedy
  • MC Romance
  • Suspense
  • Interesting world-building
  • Gripping storyline
  • Lovable characters

The world-building has expanded a smidge more by introducing Ramona into these bikers world. And with Ramona and Eve already being friends, a nice little girl club has formed as a strong counterpart to the club. Overall, it left me wanting more and excited to read the next book with the next swoon-worthy couple to be! Another amazing read from Bella Jewel!

• MY REVIEW •

Ooh. Okay. I think this might be the first MC romance book of Bella Jewel’s that I’ve read where it was definitely a lot more lighthearted, less MC and more contemporary romance.

HowToLose_DramaDramaDrama

When I first discovered Bella Jewel’s books, she quickly became an auto-buy author for me. Her dark MC romances have been some of my all time favourite reads. I’ve read enough to know what I can expect from her stories…

So it came as a bit of shock that this particular new MC series was a lot more lighthearted, more comic relief added, and certainly felt more contemporary in theme. The MC elements were evident but it wasn’t the complete focus. Biker Schmiker is character driven with 100% full of fiery banter between the hero and heroine.

I admit I have mixed feelings about this story and there was some getting used to in comparison to Bella’s other books. I felt like it was a little choppy— it alternated between a serious situation to lightheartedness, and then back again all throughout that it felt like a stop-start journey. Whilst the banter was entertaining and at times raunchy, the storyline was a little confusing and a bit much. So many plot points were in this one that it felt like one thing after another popped up for Eve and Riggs to deal with.

The story had amazing potential, especially with how Riggs and his club were first introduced into the small town Eve resides in. The chemistry between Eve and Riggs was zingy and kept me invested in seeing where the story would head to next (coz for the love of the book gods it was fucking unpredictable)! 😅

What confused me about this story was some of the crazy plotlines that seemed a little unbelievable. Not to mention some of the characters’ reactions were somewhat far-fetched (specifically the protagonists) in regards to said situations. It fringed on over-the-top madness. But I got to hand it to Bella for giving “crazy” a good crack! 😜

It was well-paced storytelling, action-packed, and full of dramatics. It’s told solely from Eve’s POV, but I really would’ve liked to have seen Riggs’ perspective as well, just so we can get an in-depth insight to his feelings too— especially considering he did some pretty shady things that I was surprised Eve would want anything more to do with him. But in saying that, there’s a good amount of character and relationship development that I grew to like Eve and Riggs more and more as I progressed through their story.

Both the leads are down to earth, relatable characters. Putting aside their cruel plotting to destroy one another, it’s clear they are caring, decent people. The overall atmosphere is modern and lighthearted. If you enjoy heated enemies-to-lovers/ hate-to-love romance stories with MC elements, then give this one a go. There’s plenty of game-playing that’ll have you turning those pages whilst grinning!

But I must point out that Riggs and Eve’s relationship was a bit of rollercoaster with tons of push and pull. For a good chunk of the story, their relationship was on-again-off-again unsteady, in which Riggs hooks up with other women. This type of trope is not a hard-no for me personally but I know it can be a bit of a no-no for other readers when it comes to their romance reads, and it’s why I included this bit of spoiler as a warning for those considering to read this book.

Please also note that it contains sensitive subject matters that may be triggering for some readers. It contains violence, assault, and strong sexual content. Readers 18+ only.

In my honest opinion, it’s a rocky start to a new series but it did hold my attention. Besides the constant sexual frustration coming off of Eve and Riggs that was all-out giddy to witness, the secondary characters were equally entertaining additions in keeping the story and their world appealing.

The friendships felt genuine and downright fun to see. There was plenty of comic relief within, but the banter, jokes, and little chats amongst the friends were some of the highlights.

The overall execution fell a little short for me, but it had a budding world-building and enough likable elements that by the end of the book I was looking forward to reading the next one. It’s a relatively short but sweet read. Bella’s effortless writing style and talent for creating quirky and engaging characters was delivered in this one no matter how complicated the storyline was.

As I mentioned earlier, tons of potential. I’m looking forward to seeing where Bella takes this series and how she plans to expand their world. An overall lively and playful MC-lite romance story between two fierce, strong-willed people!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐

•••

• MY REVIEW •

TVD_Elena_Smirk

Oooh things have just gotten more complicated! I didn’t think situations could get any more fucked up between Ivy and Santiago…. but man, was I wrong!

Things to consider before starting this book:

  1. This is a continuous story. You will have to read Requiem of the Soul first.
  2. This is book two in this trilogy, so yes, like the previous one, this too will end in a cliffhanger.
  3. There are sensitive subject matters that may be triggering for some readers such as, violence, non-consensual sex, domestic abuse, and attempted suicide.
  4. This is dark romance with adult themes — readers 18+ only!

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way let’s continue, shall we?

There’s a lot of complex and damaging situations going on in Reparation of Sin. Just when you think one fire is being put out, there’s another being fanned by a mystery antagonist(s) — whom at this point could be ANYBODY! 🤔

TVD_Damon_Drinking

Vengeance, hate, and jealousy is what’s driving these characters to take action. Whilst some parts of the storyline I found fairly predictable, one thing I am absolutely clueless on is who the true villain is. This is a dark, gritty romance that is full of suspicion, ulterior motives, and all around shady characters. It’s already 2/3 of the way through the story and I’m still hesitant of Ivy and Santiago. Eeep.

I’m going to be brutally honest… there are a ton of “facepalm” moments throughout. There are a couple of characters who stuck out like sore thumbs in this book that had me wanting to rip my hair out of frustration. But you know what? I commend the authors and their book for evoking deep emotion out of me. Just as Requiem of the Soul, this one held my attention and I was wholly invested in seeing the next obstacle in Ivy’s and Santiago’s twisted marriage. It picks up right after the conclusion of the first book, and ultimately starts the next plot in the story. The devious characters are in full force, and what’s worst is that it seems no one can be trusted in this world. Lots of little things are happening and they’re all interconnected and relating to Ivy and Santiago.

TVD_DamonElena_LookAtMe

And throughout it all, you’re witnessing the push and pull in their relationship. The twisted back and forth hate to love to hate mentality with these two has amped up because it’s more than vengeance at stake now. You’ll see Santiago struggle not only with his undeniable feelings for Ivy but with new developments brought on by his family and The Society. His inner monologue ended up being one of my favourite things to see.

Ivy on the other hand is more willing to open herself up to her growing feelings for Santiago but it seems every time she takes a leap, she falls flat on her ass, which I think is a big reason as to why at times she came off pitiful. Not going to lie, I felt disappointed in her decisions throughout this book. I could nitpick certain things that occurred that Ivy could have easily avoided. But funnily enough when I think back on what I’d read, it’s almost as if I just finished watching a turbulent episode of a telenovela. 😅 Hot, cold. Enemies, lovers. Trust, don’t trust. *phew!* There’s so much drama! Even between the sheets.

TVD_Elena_LoveHateAFineLine

Things are escalating and they’re escalating like crazy! Both Ivy and Santiago do some very questioning things. I can only hope that they redeem themselves in the next one. I wish I could say this book won’t leave you hanging like the first one did but I’d be lying. The cliffhanger in this one is torturous. If you had any patience, you’d wait for the third book before starting this trilogy. 🤭

Knight and Zavarelli fans, Ivy and Santiago’s story is not to be missed! If you enjoy dark romance reads, I think this storyline will be right up your alley. It has suspense, chemistry between the hero/ heroine, intense dynamics between a range of characters, and a storyline that’ll have you hooked with its twists and turns.

There’s a lot of intrigue surrounding all the characters in this world not just with protagonists, and I feel like we’ve only scratched the surface. There are a couple of secondary characters from the first book… *cough* “C” and “J” *cough* whom I was hoping to see more of and I’m giddy to say I got my wish! 🙌🙌 Despite having only a scene or two in this book, they played vital roles… aaaaaaand their personal story was divulged (I would love a full length novel on them but if it never happens, I can happily say I’m content with the appearances they made in this book).

It’s told from dual points of view and although it has slowed down a little in comparison to the first book, I still consider it to be fast-paced, and the world-building is lush! I’m talking quality atmosphere, dimensional storytelling, and complex characters! 👌 It’s definitely elements you would expect from both authors. Looking forward to the next book!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Here’s how I do it: I avert my eyes when he walks out of his room, shirtless in all his toned glory. I squash the butterflies that fill my stomach every time he slowly unfurls a dimpled smile. And, most importantly, I keep an arsenal of “personal massagers” in my bedside drawer. Wink.

Not to brag, but Aiden Smith isn’t hard to resist if you’ve been doing it for as long as I have. In fact, we might have continued as best friends forever if not for the fact that I needed him to play the part of my fake boyfriend.

Date me like you mean it, I told him. Nudge nudge. C’mon, just go along with a little lie, help a girl out, and then we can all return to life as we know it.

Except he veered from the plan.

He crossed the line.

Flirting with me when no one else was around? Pinning me down and kissing me like that? Okay, how exactly is taking off my bra part of the ruse, Aiden?!

I’d ask him about it if I could, but well…things got ugly and we’re not best friends anymore.

In fact, we’re the exact opposite.

Now, I have to play nice even though I want to crush his heart in the palm of my hand.

Pretending not to love Aiden was the easy part.

Pretending not to hate him?

Well…I might need a little more practice.

— MY REVIEW —

Ahhhh. Grey has done it again! DMLYMI was deviously good! I obsess over a good secret crush, but what’s even better? A secret crush turn enemies to lovers. *evil laugh* muahaha! 🤭

Just the book I needed to escape the reality of adulting for a little while. Lol.

Grey has the inate ability to get you invested with the ever-so Grey trademark characters who seem to talk (and think) a mile a minute — those who’ve read her other books know what I’m talking about! Her characters are instantly lovable with their humorous ramblings and random thoughts that it’s hard not to get invested in their story right off the bat.

GG_NateSerena_PlayfulPunch

DMLYMI has now been included in my list of fave books of Grey’s right along with The Allure of Dean Harper and Arrogant Devil. All of which had a similiar hate to love romance. What can I say? When it comes to this tried and true trope, Grey writes some of the best!

But question… this was supposed to be a romantic comedy, right? I read that correctly, yes? So why the hell did I blubber and get teary-eyed so many damn times throughout reading this book!!? 😢😅

I loved the concept of a secret crush in this storyline because it’s almost all from Maddie’s POV for at least the first half. As a reader, you get on this ride of unrequited love with her, the hopeless dream of having your best friend mirror back your feelings. I think that’s why I got so emotional reading this book. The further it developed, the more I felt for Maddie. You can’t help but sympathize with what she’s going through. I’m not going to lie — I was crushed by some of the scenes. If you cry just as easily as I do, make sure to have tissues nearby. You’re bound to get into a snotfest!

GG_Serena_FakeSmiles

It’s full of heart. There’s a sweet balance of friendship and love, good ol’ banter and game playing to keep things lively. It’s what will keep you anxious to see how things will play out between Maddie and Aiden. There’s no doubt they have zingy chemistry. You can feel the years of their bond leap off the pages.

Full of what-ifs, secrets, missed chances, and unexpected opportunities. Both Maddie and Aiden are forced to navigate through all the events in their lives and the consequences of their choices. Their journey is one of growth, pure determination and acceptance that things may not work out the way they hope or expect it to. At times it’s a bittersweet pill to swallow.

It’s a fictional story of a couple struggling to find a balance in their lives that can very well mirror any relationship real life.

GG_NateSerena_KissToForehead

What I love about Grey’s books (and this one was no different) is that her characters are fairly relatable. The relationships and life experiences are some that many of us can relate to. Whilst I adore Maddie and her usual happy-go-lucky personality, I had hoped she had more backbone where Aiden was concerned, and that she followed through and executed her plans because I can’t help but think that would’ve been a real kicker!

Aiden doesn’t have as much of the spotlight that Maddie initially has when it comes to their perspective of things but it doesn’t mean he didn’t make an impact. Putting aside the good looks Grey has bestowed upon him, he’s charming, sweet as hell and is just a pure care bear at heart! I couldn’t really fault the guy. Yeah, I might have smacked my forehead and shook my head mumbling “no, no, no…” at a couple of things he does but it no way means he’s crossed off the book boyfriend list! Not happening!

I may not always agree with these characters’ actions but I can see how others may, or even be doing the same thing if they were ever in the same situation. Either way Grey always manages to put realism into her characters and their world, which I’ve always liked about her writing.

If you’re a fan of friends to lovers, hate to love, and secret crush romance storylines, then this will certainly be a treat for you folks! I enjoyed it immensely and there are parts of this book I’ve already reread multiple times over because they’re still reeling in my mind.

The steamy scenes are indeed hot, yet tasteful, and just enough to keep you swooning over their relationship. I’ll leave it at that. 😉

GG_NateSerena_Grabby

Overall, a well-paced storytelling, developing easily enough in the first half of the book. Although in my opinion, it did pick up speed in the second half making it feel little rushed but not to a point where it’s off-putting. The ending is still as sweet as when the story started. It has a beautiful wrap up that’ll have you sighing in happy contentment. Nothing was left unanswered (at least from my point of view).

Another not-to-be missed standalone romance from Grey! An amazing journey of love, friendship and sacrifice. It’s mostly lighthearted with moments of fluttering-butterfly-induced nerves. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll cruelly enjoy the banter, but secretly hope things will work out between Maddie and Aiden.

GG_NateSerena_BackHug

Highly recommend for fellow romance readers to add this one to their TBR, asap!

Brothers Ink Tattoo by Nicole James

I recently read the last book in this series, but I realized after considering to write a review that I never wrote any for the previous books (and I had read them a while a go now), so… I figured a good ol’ review for the entire series it is! 😁 Hope you enjoy!

— Jameson (Book One) —

BLURB

Jameson_CoverJameson O’Rourke owns the primo tattoo shop in town, one he’s worked hard to build. And in his industry, he’s the current ‘it’ boy, the reigning King of Ink. His career is on fire, so hot television has even come calling. And as a result, the town bad-boy has now become the town’s favored son.

Ava Hightower needs his face on her flyers, if she is to have any hope of her charity gala and bachelor auction being a success. Unfortunately, they get along like oil and water. He’s a hardheaded, controlling jerk, and she’s already had one run-in with the man. Asking him, of all people, for help is the last thing she wants to do.

Not exactly a match made in heaven.

Jameson doesn’t think too highly of Miss Hightower, either.

To him, she’s just an uptight, stuck-up know-it-all; a little Miss Goody-two-shoes. Not in a million years was she the type that he’d have anything to do with. Unfortunately she is also on the city council, and therefore has the ability to screw with his business.

He needed her help once before, and she shot him down.

Now the tables are turned, and she needs his help. Well, my, my, sweetheart, karma can be a cold-hearted bitch.

But, hey, maybe he could work this to his advantage.

You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours, and all that crap.

So they cut a deal. One he has no intention of ever having to fulfill, because he plans to make it impossible for her to keep her end of it.

She thought she could outlast him. Guess again, sweet thing. She may be a stubborn woman, but she’s met her match. And he has no intention of letting her win this game.

Be warned, sweetheart, because the King of Ink has plans to push your limits in ways you’ve never imagined.

This new series from Nicole James, author of the Evil Dead MC series biker romance is a new addition to the bad boy romance genre with her hot, alpha, dominant men.

MY REVIEW

I LOVEEEED IT!! I read the entire thing in one sitting. I wish it was longer, with a longer epilogue (half a page was nothing!)

I love the banter amongst the brothers, it made it all the more enjoyable to read. You can really see the dynamics between them all but also the wag the band together when they stand for something.

Ava is a such a wonderful female protagonist. She has a feisty front but deep down she’s quite vulnerable. She’s relatable, likable, and most importantly not at all annoying (as I find some female leads can be with their personality and attitude).

Jameson was such a jerk (but in a funny way). Doesn’t he know you can’t scare a chick off once you challenge them in something they think they won’t win in!? 😁 I love that he was denial for the most part about his feelings towards Ava which gave way to his brothers giving him shit — FYI was the funniest parts to read!

The O’Rourke brothers are quite the crew. I don’t know who I loved more — Jameson, Max, Liam or Rory? They all had me in a fit of giggles which is probably the main reason why I couldn’t put this book down.

This was an excellent start to the spin off series to Evil Dead MC and it stands on it own so well. It has the same atmosphere of sexy, alpha males with protectiveness and smartassy remarks but without the amount (or mention) of violence you’d see in the Evil Dead MC series.

If I had some criticism, I would’ve loved a bit more suspense in the scenes where Ava was worried for her life. I thought it was resolved a little too quickly but it’s no biggie. It doesn’t take away from the entire book. And like I said earlier an extended, more detailed epilogue would’ve been nice. Ooh.. and throughout the whole book I was wondering how old Ava was. Just tiny little details like that would’ve been nice to know. (I’m just been nit picky. Let’s just move along.. move along) 😅

If you enjoy a hate-to-love romance trope, this needs to be added to your TBR!

— Maxwell (Book Two) —

BLURB

Maxwell_CoverMalee was sheltered all her life,
Until the day she walked into Brothers Ink
Lucky for her… he’s waiting.

She’s naïve and wary.
But that’s okay…
Maxwell O’Rourke is a patient man.
Some things are worth waiting for.

He’s nothing Malee ever thought she’d want, but everything she needs.
He makes her feel beautiful and worthy, even as he makes her burn with desire.

When an overprotective father with deep-rooted family traditions tries to come between them, she’ll have to make some hard choices. And she’ll have to be ready to face the consequences.

And just how far is Maxwell willing to go for the girl who owns his heart?

MY REVIEW

I would’ve loved to have given this one 4 stars but it didn’t quite reach for me.

I absolutely loved the first book; Jameson from this series (and I mean I ate it up in one sitting.. couldn’t read it fast enough) so I was a little disappointed this Max’s story didn’t leave me with the same impression. I actually struggled to read more than a few chapters at a time. I felt the story had a slower pace than Jameson’s which dragged on IMO.

Max was actually the brother I was looking forward to reading about after they were all introduced in Jamison’s book, and I did love him in this one (he’s just as sweet and caring as ever!), but I just couldn’t connect with the storyline. I don’t know how else to explain it… buuuut it just didn’t grab my attention and it fell a bit short in comparison to the first book.

An age gap between the hero/ heroine is nowhere near one of my favourite romance tropes in my reads but I don’t mind them IF the age difference is not so obvious in the way they interact or the way they are described. I felt this one particular, the gap was evident — especially if you picture Max as the model on the cover, and picturing Malee as a girl who’s just barely of age… hm… it can be a tough element to swallow. Just something to keep in mind if you’re similar in regards to this trope or new to it.

But in no way did I hate reading it. I just didn’t love it either. It was a nice read. Max is still such a sweet character, and a strong presence in the O’Rourke family. I’m still looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

— Liam (Book Three) —

BLURB

Liam_CoverWhen tattoo artist, Liam O’Rourke, meets a hot new ink model promoting a sexy calendar at an LA tattoo convention, sparks fly.

Liam admires Velvet like every red-blooded man in the convention center. The way she moves, her sexy pinup look and a body to die for; what man wouldn’t want that? She seems so strong and confident. But it’s the look in her eyes when she meets his that has him lightheaded. They hold a vulnerability that defy the sexy pose and call out to him. That look awakens a fierceness in him that has him wanting to protect her. She’s the beauty to his beast, and he can’t forget her.
After an incredible night together, she vanishes, leaving him with nothing but questions, only to reappear in the last place he expects to find her. She’s gorgeous and irresistible, but she’s also hiding something from him. Liam must decide if she’s worth the risk if he’s going to save her from her past or lose her forever.

Velvet comes from a family of con artists. She grew up learning all their scams. When she was fourteen, her mother forced her into traveling from town to town, with Velvet playing the leading lady in the longest running con her mother ever pulled.
She’s fought to put all that behind her, until she crosses paths with the one man who left an indelible mark on more than her skin. Velvet remembers Liam, but fortunately he doesn’t recognize her, because there’s something he doesn’t know and she can’t risk him ever finding out.

MY REVIEW

Ooh, okay. 🤔 I have a love/ hate relationship with this book. Just like Maxwell, I love Liam as a character and brother, and couldn’t wait to see his story and who he’d end up.

And whilst I liked the idea of Liam meeting Velvet (a tattoo model) at a Tattoo Convention and having that initial spark, when her story starts unraveling and you realize she’s in a difficult family situation and has actually met Liam before in the past, it starts losing a bit of the edge and excitement I initially had for them at the beginning. I can’t pinpoint it but it went in a direction I didn’t see coming. It’s not a bad storyline but it’s not one that kept me constantly engaged.

The moments where it’s just them two or when Liam is hanging with his brothers were the highlights for me. But when it was solely Velvet’s parts I wasn’t as invested. Her story — whilst I’m sure can and does happen in real life, just didn’t seem as plausible to me in this setting… 🤷‍♀️ Sigh. I just think there was a lot of things happening and it was a lot to take in.

But their chemistry is hot! I liked the idea of Velvet being an unconventional beauty covered head to toe with tattoos.

Velvet’s story also put awareness to child abuse. There’s all kinds of abuse out there, and in Velvet’s case, she was exploited as a child. Any kind of light against any kind of abuse in my opinion will always be a positive element in stories being told whether it’s fictional or not.

— Rory (Book Four) —

BLURB

Rory_CoverIt was just supposed to be a one-night stand— Until he stole her life story and put it in a song.
Now he’s rock’s hottest new artist— And she’s just found out she’s having his baby.

Rory is a pierced and inked tattoo artist by day at Brothers Ink, but by night he’s lead guitarist for the heavy metal rock band, Convicted Chrome. He’s headed East on his Harley to catch up with the tour. Beautiful Rayne is headed West on her motorcycle with her girl squad…the Moto Babes. When rain forces them all to take refuge in the same motel, sparks fly. A night of drinking and karaoke leads to a connection deeper than either of them expects.

Rayne — What do you do when someone writes a song about your most private feelings and experiences and you hear it on the radio for the first time? What do you do when that song is climbing the charts, and the man who stole your life story is suddenly rock’s hottest new artist? What do you do when you find out you’re having his baby?

Rory — After a long songwriting drought, he’s met a woman who sparked something in him and got his creative juices flowing. He’s written one of his best songs ever. When a friend in the business gives him the break of a lifetime he’s suddenly topping the charts. But Rory’s not ready for the instant stratosphere of success he’s catapulted into. Caught up in a whirlwind career that offers temptations and sin at every turn, is Rory losing the biggest part of himself?

To fix his career and more importantly himself, he’ll have to go back and fix the damage he’s done and apologize to the people he’s wronged in the past.

And one person in particular tops that list.

MY REVIEW

Great book, and a nice wrap-up to the Brothers Ink Tattoo series! 😊 I admit I wasn’t as invested in reading Rory’s story in comparison to his older brothers — but that’s only because I’m not really a fan of heroes who are musicians or romance reads that centers around a rock star (nothing against them… just not my thing).

But it was only right to read his story and get this series complete!

And my verdict? His story was pretty enjoyable. His was a rollercoaster ride and one of growth and needing independence.

Both Rory and Rayne are likeable characters. Rory is a musician wanting to make it big but has to navigate through the life of fame, tours, and media attention. Whilst Rayne is coping with the loss of her older brother, trying to keep his business afloat, and now an unexpected whirlwind romance with a guy she connected with deeply one night, but who is ultimately a stranger. The minute they meet, it’s an immediate attention grabber. I didn’t want put the book down!

Despite their struggles in both their personal lives and their relationship, their concerns were relatable and reasonable. Seeing them navigate through their blossoming relationship was heartwarming and engaging to read. Whilst they hooked up relatively quickly and had strong feelings for one another instantly, the development of their relationship was relatively slow and often hit road bumps. It was nice to see the growth and development at a steadier pace. It didn’t read as insta-love at all.

And finally, seeing the brothers (and their partners) come together in the end and really wrap this entire series up is exactly what I hoping to see. I love that the ending left so many great possibilities for the brothers and their expanding family. I love that the story of the O’Rourke brothers has come full circle from struggles to success. That they all got their happily ever after!

RATING: ♥♥♥♥

I first discovered Nicole James through her fabu MC series; Evil Dead. When she first announced a spin-off series focusing on the four O’Rourke brothers who made an appearance in Wolf (Evil Dead MC Book 4) — I was giddy! 😊 It’s a great contemporary romance series with some edge, some grit, and a whole lot of of brotherly love!

Jameson_BrotherInk_Model

If you haven’t noticed, Jameson is without a doubt my favourite book from this series. If I could only recommend one, then it’s gotta be that one!

The Benedetti Brothers by Natasha Knight

After having read some of Natasha Knight’s newer releases, I was curious about her backlist. Decided the Benedetti Brothers series was a good place to start with.

booksofthemuggleborn_benedettibrothers
Original post from my IG @booksofthemuggleborn

The series consists of five books in total. Each book in the series can be read as standalone. The first three books in the series are on the Benedetti Brothers (the two books following are just set in the same world).

This review is for the first three books! 😊

📙 Book One: SALVATORE

BLURB

Lucia

It all started with a contract signed by him, then by me, while our families watched. While my father sat silent, a man defeated, giving his daughter to the Benedetti monsters.

I obeyed. I played my part. I signed my name and gave away my life. I became their living, breathing trophy, a constant symbol of their power over us.

That was five years ago.

Then came the time for him to claim me. For Salvatore Benedetti to own me.
I had vowed vengeance. I had learned hate. And yet, nothing could have prepared me for the man who now ruled my life.

I expected a monster, one I would destroy. But nothing is ever black or white. No one is either good or evil. For all his darkness, I saw his light. For all his evil, I saw his good. As much as he made me hate him, a searing passion burned inside me.

I was his, and he was mine.

My very own monster.

Salvatore

I owned the DeMarco Mafia Princess. She belonged to me now. We had won, and they had lost. And what better way to teach a lesson than to take from them that which is most precious? Most beloved?

I was the boy who would be king. Next in line to rule the Benedetti Family. Lucia DeMarco was the spoils of war. Mine to do with as I pleased.

It was my duty to break her. To make her life a living hell. My soul was dark, I was hell bound. And there was no way out, not for either of us. Because the Benedetti family never lost, and in our wake, we left destruction. It’s how it had always been. How I believed it would always be.

Until Lucia.

REVIEW:

Dark, mafia romance. ✔ Enemies to lovers. ✔ Arranged Marriage. ✔

With lots of banter, intimidation and lust! 🤤

TVD_DamonElena_Punch

This is a great start to the series. It immediately gets you intrigued with Lucia being forced into a secluded life with Salvatore. There’s history between these two characters and their mafia families. What starts out as hatred, slowly but surely turns into lust, then eventually love. It’s a Romeo and Juliet type romance along with their two warring families.

I always enjoy some banter in my hate-to-love romance books — and this was a good one! There’s a nice little build-up. Lucia and Salvatore can deny their attraction for each other all they want but it doesn’t mean it’s not evident.

But there blossoming romance comes with issues. Not to mention Salvatore’s own personal conflicts with his family and the pressure of being the next one up to head the Benedetti family and all that comes with being in the mafia.

This book is full of drama. With a few swoon-worthy moments here and there.

RATING: ♥♥♥½

📓 Book Two: DOMINIC

BLURB

He’s the last born son of the mafia king. The one with nothing to lose.
I’m the daughter of a foot soldier and the sister of a snitch.

Monsters have been part of my life for as long as I can remember, but none as dangerous as Dominic Benedetti. None as cruel. None as broken.

I have no illusions about what he is. I have no desire to save his soul. And I can’t care about his bleeding heart.

But love isn’t always beautiful or kind.
It can be a twisted, ugly bitch.

I’d always known this was the kind I’d find. The only kind that could touch me.

Because some of us, we belong in the dark.
And Dominic and I belong in the dark.

REVIEW:

This is a captive/ captor romance. Contains sensitive content that may trigger some readers (e.g. kidnapping, violence, trafficking).

But ahh… Who doesn’t love the bad boy from the bunch?! 😜

TVD_Stefan_HateMe

I knew from Salvatore’s story that I had to read Dominic’s book. He’s the black sheep of the family. He’s the youngest, who was never considered to rule so he causes trouble where he can, whenever he can. When everything crumbles around him, he leaves it all behind… but what happens when he can no longer escape his past?

Dominic is the bad boy with the attitude and he knows it. He doesn’t pretend to be anything else. His story is one of acceptance, growth, and healing.

The developing relationship between Dominic and Gia not only saves both their haunted lives but it changes them. Despite the fucked up way that they meet, in the end there’s no doubt that they are well suited for one another. I loved seeing Dominic’s character growth, from when you’re introduced to him back in Salvatore’s book all the way to this one. You can’t help but not hate him (even with everything that’s happened).

Besides the romance, his story had a good chunk of family dynamics. Reading this book made me understand and see his family in a new light… including Dominic himself *whispers* …and I had already loved him when he was being an asshole. 🤭

And who says bad boys can’t be romantic as hell?!

RATING: ♥♥♥½

📕 Book Three: SERGIO

BLURB

I’m the first-born son of the mafia king. The favorite. Destined to rule, I’m a dangerous man, a ruthless one. But in my world, you have to be.

Then Natalie stumbles into my life. Wrong place. Wrong time.

Twice, fate put her in my path.
Twice, fate placed the innocent lamb at the mercy of the monster.

I gave her a chance to walk away. Told her it would be better for her if she did.
But she didn’t listen.
And now it’s too late.
Because I’m not good. I never wanted to be. And I won’t let her go anymore. See, I’m not the hero. When I touch her, it’s with dirty hands.

I know my reckoning is coming though. I know I’ll burn for the things I’ve done, the sins I’ve committed. And I don’t deny hell is where I belong, but I want my time first. I want my time with her.

She’s mine.
Forever.
No matter what.

REVIEW:

⚠ WARNING: If you have yet to read Salvatore, please be aware this review for Sergio contains spoilers!

Aw, this was bitter fucking sweet! Ended the trilogy of the Benedetti brothers with possibly the best brother and book from them all!

This is a somewhat opposites attract romance. Such a contrast between Natalie being this innocent young woman, and Sergio being the next in line in the Benedetti family to be the Mafia king, yet the attraction is fire! 🔥

TVD_EnzoSmile

“Wrong place, wrong time, sweetheart.”

Going into this book knowing that Sergio Benedetti wouldn’t be surviving the end, I mentally prepared myself. What I hadn’t counted on was that Sergio would become my absolute favourite brother. Dammit!

The more I read, the more I dreaded getting closer to finishing the book because Sergio stole my heart from the second he appeared… and knowing that I would have to read and experience his demise was gut-wrenching.

Yes, I cried. 💔

I’m so glad Natasha decided to write his story. It’s definitely worth the read. I love that Sergio and Natalie’s love was fierce. They knew their time together would be limited and they didn’t bullshit around. Sergio knew what he wanted, and damn well got it!

Not only has the book wrecked me, but it’s also made me wonder how Sergio (and Natalie) would’ve lived out their lives had they had the opportunity to. After now having read all three books, I have no doubt that Sergio would’ve been the best man to rule. Personality-wise, I thought he was the most balanced out of the brothers. Considering he was in the business of death, danger and darkness, he still had the most heart.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading every bit of Sergio and Natalie’s short but sweet romance. Beautifully told.

RATING: ♥♥♥♥

•••

OVERALL RATING: ♥♥♥½

As mentioned earlier, each book can be read as standalone and technically in any order. But I recommend you still read them in publishing order despite the fact that Salvatore’s book contains the biggest spoiler for Sergio’s story.

Relatively quick reads. All told from dual points of view.

Besides the continuous family issues in each book, the only other similarity is with the brothers’ possessiveness over their heroine. They’re all mafia romances but each story and couple have a little something different from the last. These boys are alpha, but you’re bound to love one, two or all three of them! 😉

WhiskeyBurning_Cover

BLURB

Whiskey Burning #1 – Country music singer Scarlett meets her match when she stumbles across gorgeous biker, Maverick. He comes at the right time, though. Danger is lurking in every corner!

MINI REVIEW

An opposites attract/ second chance romance story.

Refreshing to see a successful, hot and happening singer and an MC member fall in love, considering MC’s are notorious for keeping to themselves and avoiding any kind of public attention. Scarlett and Maverick’s relationship bloomed from friendship, so it was nice to see some sort development before they actually hooked up.

It’s a cute and engaging enough story. Scarlett was a little cheesy for my taste but sometimes all you can do is laugh it off and just accept it. Maverick is your stereotypical alpha MC member who tends to be bossy and possessive, but if you can get pass that trait (because, c’mon this is MC romance.. and fictional) then you won’t have any issues with these men!

They both have dark pasts they’re trying to move on from but can’t seem to do so, but their past is just one of the reasons they connection with one another.

I liked seeing the contrast between the world of stardom/ music industry and the MC  world mesh together. It’s different from any other MC romance read. It was great seeing them make their relationship work despite Scarlett’s fame.

RATING: ♥♥♥

BLURBHushedTorment_Cover

Hushed Torment #2 – Amalie is quiet, gorgeous and sweet. She’s also deaf due to a horrendous accident earlier in life. When she meets MC President Malakai, sparks fly. Can they work out, being from two completely different worlds?

MINI REVIEW

Ooh. I love a good opposites attract romance. This was a juicy read! I love seeing big, booming alpha heroes turn gentle, caring and protective as hell towards woman who may be innocent and sheltered and who have completely have stolen their hearts.

The idea of Amalie having a disability was such a great element added to what would have been a stereotypical MC romance story. Seeing the patience and effort Malakai has put in to ensure Amalie was ready for a relationship with him was without a doubt swoon worthy material! 😍 I love that when needed, Amalie gave us grit and girl power! When she was introduced in Whiskey Burning as fellow musician and quiet friend of Scarlett, I immediately took a liking to her. Seeing the instant zing the moment Mal and Amalie laid eyes on each other… ugh… I knew Hushed Torment was not to be missed. I highly recommend. Not going to lie, I think this book surpasses the first. 🤫😉

RATING: ♥♥♥½

DarkestHour_Cover

Darkest Hour #3 – Charlie is wild, and the daughter of a very dangerous man. When a hit on her head causes her to hide, she’s left alone with Dakoda, gorgeous, rugged and completely driving her crazy!! How will she survive in lock down with this gorgeous man? Will they escape before they kill each other?

MINI REVIEW

I though Amalie and Malakai’s story would be my fave, but I think Charlie and Koda’s topped it. 😋 Hate to love romance to the max! These guys had fire, banter, and sizzling sexual tension! I adore everything about Charlie’s spitfire attitude whenever she feels she needs to guard herself, but loved seeing Koda’s searing protectiveness over her despite the fact that they get on each other’s nerves. In my opinion, their story was the one that had the most world-building, and well written character development. Seeing their pasts come back to haunt both their present, and unraveling before my eyes had me in a knot. Not only has the suspense kept through from start to finish, but it was entertaining see how things evolved between Charlie and Koda. Definitely one of my fave couples from this series!

Sassy Little Thing #4 – Saskia needs a job, when she finds herself taking care of a house for the gorgeous Mason, things don’t quite go as expected. No, Mason is going to take her on a ride she’ll never forget. If only he knew the secrets she was hiding from him…

MINI REVIEW

Hmm. Not bad. This was an unusual workplace romance. Although… half the time it didn’t seem that way, considering Saskia had no issues sharing her opinions to Mason. It was kind of entertaining at times. 🤭

I was already a big fan of Mason since his minor interaction with Charlie in the previous book. But other than a few lines here and there, you don’t get a inch of his story until this very book. Saskia is a newly introduced character. She’s in your face, confident and doesn’t seem to give a damn… but she also comes with baggage — baggage that Mason and the rest of Iron Fury MC have taken upon themselves to take care of.

The story line itself was okay. Pretty much similar to the other before it with a troubled past and needing the MC for help. Nothing too wowing or gripping but enough to keep me reading nevertheless. I think that’s more to do with Mason… but meh. 🤷‍♀️ I’m not overly fond of Saskia and her stupid moments, but Mason actually makes me tolerate her. Haha.

There’s some individual backstories but unfortunately it was never full developed, and by the time this story was nearing the end, their individual stories were wrapped up too abruptly which leaves you kind of questioning things. I would’ve loved to have seen some more growth within their relationship to make it more believable, but considering all the books are relatively similar in that factor as well, I’ll let it pass.

I do like the banter the had going for them, especially where Mason’s “hookups” are concerned. I giggled at those moments, they were probably my fave scenes from the book.

Me, Please #5 – Chantelle or Penny? Boston has a hard choice ahead of him, when he’s faced with two very gorgeous women, how will he ever choose? These two are going to keep him on his toes.

MINI REVIEW

If you enjoy the cruelty that is love triangles, then you might enjoy this one. 😜

I can usually tolerate love triangles on a good day (even though my fave never gets chosen in the end) but fairly early on in the story and I knew I wanted to get through it and move onto the next book. I think this is the first love triangle I’ve read that consisted of two women vying for the same guy — and it’s the last!

Not a fan of the hypocrisy these women had in spades. They said on numerous occasions that they had nothing but love and respect for the other woman (because it’s not their fault the hero couldn’t make up his mind) but then turn around and something completely opposite. It was overly repetitive and tiresome. I also just about rolled my eyes the minute I sensed that one of the women was starting to be written as the “perfect one” whilst the other was just that… “the other”. Ugh. 🙄😒

Other than my not liking this book solely because of preference, it did lack enough character development. These characters each clearly had their fair share of horrible events in their past but it was delve into deep enough — more like it was just mention in conversation and that was it.

I don’t regret reading it because I was totally invested in reading (and finishing) this series, but it’s definitely not one of faves and I won’t be rereading it.

Our Final Tale #6 – Slater and Ellie. Parted in the most horrific way ten years ago when a mistake caused Slater to lose the love of his life. He spent years searching, and now she’s back. There’s only one problem…she has no idea who he is….

MINI REVIEW

Eeep! I’m so happy this series is ending with a bang! I’ve been curious about Slater and Ellie’s story since Darkest Hour. There story is by far the most well-developed. Their past was slowly being revealed throughout the previous books to give you a gist of their relationship — so there’s already that build-up by the time you get to this book.

This is a first love/ second chance romance and I couldn’t get enough of it! I was hooked and 100% invested in seeing their story play out. All throughout I was rooting for Slater to get his happily ever after, and for Ellie to be able to give it to him. Edge of your seat love story. So much mystery surrounding Ellie since she finally surfaced after being missing for 10 years. But seeing these two slowly get to know each other again is what I loved the most about this book. Add in the introduction of Slater’s brothers, and seeing the family dynamics (other than of the MC) gave this book an entirely different aura from the rest.

I was not expecting to love this book the most. I had my fave couples in Amalie and Malakai, and Charlie and Dakoda, but Ellie and Slater’s was something extra special. I actually think this has been added to my list of all time fave first love/ second chance romance books!

FYI: The book is not only an introduction Slater’s family, but an introduction to a whole new series centering around these hot ass men! You can guess I’ll be reading Rumblin’ Knights series next from Bella Jewel! 🙌

RATING: ♥♥♥♥

I’ve been a fan of Bella Jewel since I first discovered her Sinners MC series a couple years ago and loved it! Since then I’ve been going through her backlist, and finally got to the Iron Fury MC. It’s a not as gripping or as well-written as her other MC series’ but it still kept me entertained enough to keep reading all the way through until the sixth book. Each of the story lines are pretty similar, and the situations become repetitive but I was invested more so in the couples. The process of these characters getting together was what had me hooked. Some couples had the witty banter, whilst some had the whole opposites attract shtick that I love just as much.

IronFuryMC_Cover

All the books are told in first person/ dual points of view. With each story going back and forth from past to present time.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this series first from all of Bella Jewel’s books, but if you’ve read (and enjoyed) her other ones and like me, wanted to go through her backlist, then this is not one to skip out of. Just don’t take all the guys’ attitudes and actions too seriously. It’s simply a bit of MC fun! 😊

But I have to state that whilst each book are romances, they do all contain some form of sensitive subject matter that may trigger some readers. There’s violence, sexual abuse, drug addiction, and kidnapping. Other than the romance, their stories are about willpower, strength, realizing that they are loved and supported, and overcoming the tragedies that they went through and finally finding closure.

OVERALL RATING: ♥♥♥½

— Luca Vitiello by Cora Reilly —

LucaVitiello_Cover

I was born a monster. Cruelty ran in my veins like poison. It ran in the veins of every Vitiello man, passed on from father to son, an endless spiral of monstrosity. A born monster shaped into an even worse monster by my father’s blade and fists and harsh words. I was raised to become Capo, to rule without mercy, to dish out brutality without a second thought. Raised to break others. When Aria was given to me in marriage, everyone waited with baited breath to see how fast I’d break her like my father broke his women. How I’d crush her innocence and kindness with the force of my cruelty.Breaking her would have taken little effort. It came naturally to me.I was gladly the monster everyone feared. Until her. Author’s note: Bound By Honor in Luca’s POV.

— MY REVIEW —

** This mini review is for the bonus prologue only!

The prologue was a great little addition to Luca Vitiello. Although it’s bonus content, there’s nothing new within that those who’ve read the book are missing out on. It pretty much sums up what he has gone through to get to where he’s currently at at the present time, the lead up to his “new” life with Aria, and the things he has to constantly go through to keep his position, his power, and his family safe and secure. If you’ve read Bound by Honor and Luca Vitiello, and want just a little bit more, then this prologue is a nice add-on.

— Fragile Longing by Cora Reilly —

Sofia knows how it feels to be the consolation prize.
Too young.
Not blond.
And definitely not an ice princess.
Her sister is—was all those things. Perfection. Until she wasn’t. Until she ran off to be with the enemy and left her fiancé behind.
Now Sofia is given to Danilo in her sister’s stead, knowing she’ll never be more than second best. Yet, she can’t stop longing for the love of the man she’s been crushing on even when he was still her sister’s.
Danilo is a man who’s used to get what he wants.
Power.
Respect.
The sought-after ice princess.
Until another man steals his bride-to-be. Danilo knows that for a man in his position losing his woman can lead to a loss of face.
Wounded pride.
Thirst for revenge.
A dangerous combination—one Danilo can’t leave behind, not even when a girl just as precious takes her sister’s place to placate him. Yet, she’s got one flaw: she’s not her sister.
Unable to forget what he’s lost, Danilo might lose what he’s been given.

— MY REVIEW —

** This mini review is for the chapter included in this book only! Please don’t read any further if you don’t want any teasers (especially with Fragile Longing still a month away)

Before I start, if you’ve been contemplating whether or not to get Kiss Me In The Dark (specifically for Cora’s content), and wondering what is included from Fragile Longing… The prologue and the first chapter is what you’ll be getting. If you’re not too fussed with getting an early taste of the storyline, then I highly recommend you grab your copy now — plus all proceeds go to donations! 😊

👏 Okay! Time for the goss!

Although Fragile Longing is a standalone, I recommend you to have read Twisted Pride (from the Camorra Chronicles) first because it definitely coincides with the timeline from that book…. and it’ll give new readers a better scope of the relationship between Danilo, Sofia and Serafina.

“Always less. Never enough.”

We’re only given the first chapter but already I am liking Sofia. After how many books, I am still floored at how well Cora can write her characters in a way that really shows their age and the life they’ve lived so far. I love the innocence and naivety of her young heroines before all hell breaks loose and they’re pushed into a world of darkness, adulting, and unrequited love. Hehe.

I initially wasn’t a big fan of romance reads that involve age gaps, but since reading Sweet Temptation, I’ve come to look forward to reading who else of Cora’s characters will be paired up. When I first read that Sofia would become Danilo’s end game, after Serafina was clearly… well not! I was already reeling at the possibility of it becoming another brilliant, yet complex story similar to Sweet Temptation where they really have to work at their relationship, and find a balance–especially with their age gaps.

And just like all of Cora’s previous books, I enjoy the fact that despite that they’re considered dark romances, there’s obvious lightheartedness and even humor sprinkled all throughout.

“Slowly I sat up and wiped my eyes. I hopped off my bed and checked my face in the mirror. My eyes were puffy and my nose red. Fina was a pretty crier. I was not.”

I shouldn’t have found this moment funny, but I did… maybe because I easily related, and maybe because the second I read it, this image popped into my head…

KimK_UglyCry

All I know is Cora’s heroines are relatable in so many ways, and their feelings and attitudes towards things and situations are quite realistic, in particular to when they’re still in their youth and don’t necessarily keep their thoughts to themselves yet.

Great start to Fragile Longing! I can’t wait to read it in its entirety! Sofia is clearly living in her sister’s shadow so I can’t wait to see her when she reaches of age, and what Danilo’s reaction will be of her by then. Eeep! ❤
