I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with my wife. That wasn’t part of the plan.

From the moment I first laid eyes on Madelena De Léon, I felt a primal urge to protect her. Keep her safe. Her father had failed her. I would not.

She is innocent, and I have no business taking her to my bed. But Madelena and I are bonded. Our destinies inexplicably linked. As is our survival.

My past is dark. I’ve made many enemies and betrayal runs rampant in my world. But sometimes those closest to you are the most dangerous of all.

If I was a better man, I would let her go. I know it’s the only way to keep her safe.

But any goodness I had in me vanished long ago. I am a man condemned. I want what I want.

And what I want is her.

• MY REVIEW •

“You and I belong to each other now. For better or for worse. Until death do us part. And I mean every word of that.”

haleyloomis Tumblr blog with posts - Tumbig.com

What a page-turning ending to The Augustine Brothers duet! With the cliffhanger Forgive Me My Sins concluded with, I couldn’t get to this second half of the duet fast enough. Santos and Madelena had pulled me into their twisted and deadly world and I was completely enveloped in their stormy relationship.

As I mentioned in my review for the first book, I had my inklings about the plot twists and certain characters’ motives, and this second half of the story revealed all the mysteries. Although I found most of it fairly predictable quite early on, I still enjoyed the overall reading experience. Knight’s writing is consistently effortless to follow, with vivid world-building, and characters full of personality and intrigue. Her books are dark romance comfort reads for me and this story is another addition to the collection.

Santos and Madelena’s relationship evolved from distrust and uncertainty to one of love and loyalty. Whilst their characters could’ve been a lot more fleshed out in my opinion, there was still plenty of growth by each of them that kept me invested in seeing their story through. The complexity surrounding these MCs certainly made things interesting— I loved the additional murder mystery/psychological thriller elements thrown into this dark romantic suspense. It has the familiarity of Knight’s usual dark mafia romances but with a little something different included that set it apart from the rest.

Santos is a unique MMC having a less stereotypical alpha persona than I’m used to seeing in Knight’s books, and is more a protective and caring, albeit morally grey hero throughout. He opens up about is brutal history but acknowledges his wrongdoings and regretful actions. What you see is what you get with him.

For the most part Madelena has a fragility to her but when push comes to shove, you see determination and a fight in her that gave her character some much needed backbone. They’re quite a dynamic pair with contrasting personalities that worked well together.

The secondary characters’ roles in this book had taken things up a notch. New developments popped up but I can’t say all had been worthwhile plotlines. There were a couple I would’ve loved to have seen play out in more detail, but there were others that had me questioning why they were even included in the first place as they had eventually fizzled out by the end with no real importance to the main storyline.

I’m one of those readers that always seem to fall in love with a character who ends up either not getting the heroine in the end or… they end up dead. There’s a character in this story that fits one of these two categories, and I was honestly bummed to see it. I’m secretly hoping Knight will spin it around and give this character some kind of reprise. One can dream. 🤞😅

The fast-pacing is consistent with the first book and is continually progressing. Although it’s a dark romantic story, the spice level is relatively mild in this book and more on the sweeter side.

Dysfunctional families and dynamics, twisted mindsets and secrecy, a diverse cast of characters, and two MCs who discovered a surprising bond between them. The Augustine Brothers duet was an amazing read to escape into. It had a variety of elements that created an overall gripping fictional world with certain scenes I’m still replaying in my mind.

They went through some gruesome and exhausting experiences, and dealt with some realistic toxic relationships that many may find relatable. It was bittersweet and certain conclusions were somewhat debatable, but all in all, I was still left in contentment seeing how Santos and Madelena’s journey wrapped-up.

I think fans of Knight’s work will enjoy this one. It’s a dark romance story that isn’t as gritty as others out there and would be a great story for readers still new to the romance sub-genre (as long as you have no issues with dark themes and certain triggering content such as strong violence, sexual assault, and death).

If you like dark romances with an enemies-to-lovers, arranged marriage trope within a mafia-themed high societal setting, I recommend adding this duet to your TBR.

Dante DiLustro.

Persistent. Stubborn. Deadly.

The devil.

Juliette Brennan.

Tenacious. Beautiful. Formidable.

The minx.

She never expected his persistence, nor the way her body warmed each time the devil came around, which only made her fight the attraction that much harder.

She had vengeance to deliver and now there was blood on her hands. She had her secrets and she intended to keep them. Let the world think she was crazy, out of control. It made her real sins easy to hide.

One visit to Las Vegas sent it all spiraling to hell. There was a reason Dante was considered the Devious Kingpin.

But one thing was certain. This Juliette didn’t need a Romeo and she certainly wasn’t a damsel in distress.

• MY REVIEW •

“You and I, Wildling, we were meant to be together.”

TVD_DamonElena_LookAtMe

It was everything I could have hoped for and then some! ❤ I knew from reading Villainous Kingpin that Dante DiLustro and Juliette Brennan would be a stellar couple with a must-read story, and I almost hate to admit it, but the months and months of waiting in anticipation was actually well-worth it.

Banter, intrigue, and heat, oh my! Chapter after chapter, their story got more and more juicy. Winners knows how to write a plot-thickening, character-driven swoon-fest, and this might just be in my top 3 all-time favourites from her interconnecting universe of dark, mafia, and billionaire romance series’.

I definitely went into this one with a preconceived idea of how their story will go, along with their interactions. But that fast dissipated as Winners dished out plot-twists, unsuspecting characters, and developments that got me in the feels.

Did I mention that this book had me giggling as well? A wise-ass remark here and there, constant familial banter, and amusing inner monologues added extra oomph to what was already a page-turning storyline.

I’m an avid dark mafia romance reader. It’s my favourite romance sub-genre, and Winners has a way of writing them that’s uniquely her own. Whilst I’m not quite up-to-date with her backlist yet, I have read enough to recognise a romance book written by her without having to look at the cover. The writing is in-depth, effortless to follow, and almost immediately paints the picture. There’s a certain repetitiveness in her books that I always find comforting and highly addictive.

Whilst you can read this as a standalone, I recommend starting from the beginning of the series to get the full-scope of Dante’s and Juliette’s world. It will also give insight on how they were introduced to one another.

“Let me in, Wildling, and I promise you, neither one of us are ever going to be the same.”

Discovering Dante’s and Juliette’s backstories delved deeper than what was initially shared added another level of excitement and intrigue to the entire reading experience for me. Their connection was palpable and the turn of events between the two is something I’m still playing over in my head.

It contains dark themes that broaches on sensitive matters that some readers may find triggering or disturbing to read such as, child abuse, sexual assault, drugging, graphic violence, and death. Please take into consideration before starting. It’s intended for readers 18+ only.

Dante is probably THE sweetest, most caring, most thoughtful hero from the series (at least so far). He is such a contrast from the previous Kingpins of this series. With every effort made with Juliette I couldn’t help but fall hard for him. I guarantee Dante will have you smiling.

Juliette has grown so much as a character from the (prequel) Corrupted Pleasure that she’s become my favourite heroine. If I was to describe her character, I would say she’s a bit of an M&M chocolate with a soft, sweet centre and fragile outer shell that can chip and crack but ultimately still holds itself together.

It’s fast-paced storytelling told from dual perspectives, and has so much heart and soul in it that’ll have you emotionally and mentally invested from start to finish. I honestly didn’t want this book to end. The only reason why I’m somewhat coping is because I know they’ll make appearances in following books of the series. I love the friendships and familial bonds displayed. There’s a real sense of love, support, and protectiveness amongst the cast of characters, even crossover characters who make minor appearances provide some form of support system for these MCs.

It’s not overly gritty and with both MCs in their twenties, it can be considered NA romance. Dante and Juliette are two truly lovable, emotional characters. Their romance is slow-burn, and understandably so. But more so it made it all the more genuine to see their relationship evolve. If you like mafia romances with an enemies-to-lovers and/or a stalker romance trope, add it to your TBR.

I can’t fault this one. It’s aces in book! I will undoubtedly read it time and time again.

• BOOK ONE | NO PRINCE •

BLURB

Zepp Hunt wasn’t the king of Dayton high school. He was the top of the food chain. And I was next in line to be dragged into the lion’s den. At least that’s what he thought…

Good girls wanted to tame him. Bad girls want to be tainted by him. Everyone bowed down to him. And me?

I hated Zeppelin Hunt with every fiber of my being.

Which was why I stayed away from the arrogant bad boy with tattoos and a rap sheet.

Until I couldn’t.

Until we traded favors, and I owed him three months of my life. I never thought I would end up in his bed, and when I did, I had to remind myself that he hated me as much as I hated him.

Until I didn’t.

Zepp Hunt was no prince, and I absolutely refused to be his damsel in distress…

MINI REVIEW

Genre/ Tropes: Hate-To-Love, Close Proximity, Instant Attraction, Secret Crush

TW: Attempted Sexual Assault, Drug Use, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Violence

I went into this book with the assumption it was just another hate-to-love teen romance. Little did I know it was the start of a new obsession! 😍 Dayton is the type of harsh reality I only ever see in either films and tv, or on the news— rundown neighbourhoods, seedy environments, high crime rated streets, and those who unfortunately live in the thick of it.

Yes, it’s angsty and tragic, but rightfully so. Yet, I found it thoroughly engaging and at times unpredictable. This book sets up the world-building and overall gritty tone of the book, and the rest of the series for that matter. It’s contemporary with a handful of dark elements included. The cast of characters introduced immediately had me curious to know more. Zepp and Monroe couldn’t have been a more perfectly suited pairing. The zingy pull-and-push relationship brewing between them was gripping to say the least. The constant game-playing and sexual banter was highly entertaining, but there was also a nice counterbalance of sincerity, understanding, and protectiveness in between.

You see a gradual progression in their character growth as the two unexpectedly form an undeniable bond. I was intrigued by the premise, and I’m happy to say the storytelling was well-executed. I didn’t even mind the slow burn romance. My only hang-up is the ending was a little on the abrupt side and wasn’t as in-depth in details as the rest of the book. But it’s still a gripping read and an excellent start to the series.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

• BOOK TWO | NO GOOD •

BLURB

He was the reprobate king of Dayton high. I was the bitter princess cast out of my kingdom. And we were at war.

It started off with a lie, and a one-night stand gone terribly wrong. Although I knew nothing good would come from my encounter with Bellamy West, the small town’s gorgeous bad boy, I didn’t expect him to throw jet fuel onto the already flaming wreckage of my life. Then step back with a sexy smirk on his face to watch me burn.
And burn I did…

He got me fired.
I got him arrested.
We were enemies until we weren’t. Until one touch went too far, and I found myself craving each dirty word. Every filthy promise.
Bellamy West was no good, and I wanted to be bad.

Screw falling for Prince Charming, I wrote my love story with the villain.
And for that, I paid..

MINI REVIEW

Genre/ Tropes: Opposite Sides Of The Tracks, One Night Stand, Close Proximity, Forbidden Romance

TW: Drug Use, Violence, Bullying

This next book was a little more on the light-hearted, playful side. There’s still some saddening developments but for the most part Bellamy and Drew have this highly amusing, super adorable relationship. It’s an opposite sides of the tracks love affair that had me giggling all throughout. 🤭 They’re another likable pair of characters, with Drew being a cute and confident heroine with bratty tendencies, and Bellamy surprisingly being one of the sweeter, more adult, more thoughtful heroes from the series, and it has a lot to do with his backstory.

The distinct differences between Bellamy and Drew doesn’t hold them back from pursuing one another—and when it looks like all things are stacked against them, they always manage to find a way around it. If charming, protective, loyal heroes tickle your fancy, I think you’ll find Bellamy quite the sweetheart.😉 He went from a secondary character to the main man of Dayton in this book and he filled the role with his own swoon-worthy finesse.

A great addition that essentially left me happy sighing, but it’s another story in the series with another abrupt ending— this one slightly more hasty than the last in resolving issues before it concluded. Although there was an epilogue, I was left wondering about certain matters. I wish this story was longer, but nevertheless still a worthwhile read!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

•••

• BOOK THREE | NO ROMEO •

BLURB

To everyone in Dayton, Hendrix Hunt was the tattooed bad boy, the bully, the player. Guys hated and feared him. Girls wanted to tame him. And I just wished I could forget him.

Two years ago, Hendrix was my world. Then the taint of Dayton ruined everything, breaking us both with secrets and lies. I destroyed him and now he wants to destroy me…

They say love is patient, that love is kind, but when love is broken it becomes filled with jealousy and revenge.

Hendrix Hunt was no Romeo. But unfortunately, just like Juliet, I was in love with my enemy.

MINI REVIEW

Genre/ Tropes: Friends-To-Lovers, Second Chance Romance, Love–Hate–Love, Close Proximity

TW: Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, Drug Use, Abortion, Violence

I’ve read countless romance books with “alpha-holes” and “man-whoring” leading men… but after having read these books, Hendrix takes top spot, hands down! Lol. In saying that, never in a million years could I have predicted (after all he has said and done in the past two books) that Hendrix and his story would end up becoming my favourite! 🤯😄

I was wholly captivated by Hendrix and Lola’s relationship and their entire backstory right from the opening scene. Hendrix has a distinct image he presents to everyone but this book gave amazing insight to another side of him that ultimately made me see him in a different (and absolutely lovable) light.

It’s well-paced storytelling, and jam-packed full of developments between Lola and Hendrix. Their history is well-developed alongside a deep sense of genuineness to their relationship that was effortlessly convincing. There’s air of tension and angst throughout that really drives home the heartbreak that both these leading characters are constantly experiencing. I love the amount of heart and emotion their story possessed— it’s one of the main reasons as to why I became so invested in seeing their HEA.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

•••

I’m not even the slightest bit embarrassed to admit I got hooked on this series relatively quickly. I wasn’t even halfway through No Prince before I knew I needed to grab the other books in the series. Each book’s storyline has some repetitive formulas but I didn’t mind it one bit. There’s still differences within each of the couples and their developments that made each story their own.

Although it’s set in a high school backdrop, these books are most certainly NA romance with a ton of raunchy sexual content for targeted audiences 18+ only. The world-building is one I haven’t come across in a lot of contemporary romance reads and immediately had me curious. The struggle is real with what these cast of characters go through and I was invested in each and every one of their lives from beginning to end.

I’ve been an avid fan of Lovell’s mafia romances and wanted to check out the rest of her backlist of books. Not only has the Dayton series introduced me to Lovell’s style of contemporary romance writing, but it also introduced new-to-me author Stevie J. Cole.

I’m late to the Dayton series party, and I’m not sure if No Romeo is officially the last book, but I do hope Wolf gets one of his very own. Although Hendrix is a loud, very memorable, one of kind character, Wolf was the very first Dayton “bad boy” introduced in No Prince (besides Zepp) that caught my eye.

Once I started this series I could not NOT binge-read them back to back. Safe to say they’ve become an addiction! 😁 They all have crude but laugh-out-loud humour, swoon-worthy romantic elements, and strong, genuine friendships that made them massive page-turners. There’s a real sense of survival, desperation, and a struggle with poverty with these characters that added another layer to each of their narratives. These books won’t be for everyone, but I highly recommend you give them a try. It’s an interconnected series but each is a standalone novel.

2022 Favourite Reads

Yep, I’m doing another round-up of my favourite reads,. This will be my third year posting and it’s looking like it’ll be a yearly tradition. Wooo!

I had another rollercoaster year. I remember the first few months of 2022 wishing the year would roll by quick, and now that it’s finally time to ring in the new year, I have such a bittersweet feeling because the last two-to-three months elevated the year.

I say this every year because it really is true in my life… reading has and always will be my form of sanctuary and escapism from the daily grind. I’m your stereotypical introvert who prefers books to company. The older I get the more I’ve preferred a cosy night in with a swoon-worthy book, a favourite movie playing in the background, and tons of comfort food, and I don’t really see my preferences changing back to my younger years when I spent over an hour getting ready to go out and dance the night away (although on a rare occasion I might brush off the party dress and put on a friendly smile hehe).

Now! 👏 Are you ready to see the books I ended up loving the most from all the 100+ books I read this year? Even I surprised myself when I went back to compilate this list. 😲

PPL_AriaHappyDance

Here is my compilation of favourite reads of 2022. Ooh man, it was hard! Like last year, I ideally wanted to pluck out one favourite book from each month but damn it was hard! Some months had multiple stellar reads, so I tried had to do a little bit of finessing… *cough* cheating *cough* 😜😁

But I will say this, I have a bunch of different authors in this list, some are new-to-me authors that have quickly been added to my auto-buy authors list. So if you’re wondering if I’d recommend any… HELL YES!

(FYI: organised by romance sub-genre)

Prescott Wentworth is my brother’s best friend and teammate.

We hate each other.

But we also can’t keep our hands off each other.

The day I met the star wide receiver, he was acting like a grumpy ass, and I was so over big, bulky men messing with my life. He was gorgeous, with wide shoulders, a chiseled jaw hidden behind a week’s worth of scruff, and the meanest glare I’ve seen in my life. So what if he was injured during a game? At least he’s alive, not that he appreciates it.

Now it’s a new school year, but some things never change.

Like the sizzling tension between Prescott and me every time we’re in the same room. But the more we fight, the more I want to shut him up. With my mouth.

Then he sees me on a date with someone else, and something in him snaps.

The deal is simple: it’s just sex, and nobody can ever find out. Especially not my brother.

But then the demons from my past come back to haunt me. The darker they become, the more I need Prescott. And I’m beginning to feel like he needs me too.

NOTE: Kiss To Salvage is book two in Shattered & Salvaged Duet. You need to read Kiss To Shatter in order to understand this book. Shattered & Salvaged Duet contains dark and mature themes appropriate for readers 18+. For the full list of trigger warnings please visit http://www.annabdoe.com/trigger-warnings.

“You make me want to be better. Only you.”

TVD_Elena_Stefan_Stroke

I don’t know how else to describe reading Jade and Prescott’s story other than its therapeutic. It puts you through the wringer but by the end it leaves you feeling emotionally lighter. If there’s one story that fits the meaning of “emotional rollercoaster” to a T, then it’s this one without a doubt. I went from crying, to smiling, and back again with each chapter I’d read. All the push-and-pull and all the ups and downs between them definitely took an emotional, mental, and even physical toll on me, but man, was it worth it.

Doe stepped it up and killed it with this one. It’s another epic addition to the Blairwood University series that I will go back to over and over again. I can’t fault the writing— it’s well-written, well-developed, and totally encompasses you in its world-building. The premise caught my curiosity, the narrative sucked me in, and the characters took hold off me until it was time to part ways.

Not only has Doe written something thought-provoking, inspiring, and truly heartfelt, but she’s brought to life characters who’ve managed to make those who read it a part of their journey. I came away from this book feeling as if Jade and Prescott were real people who I knew and absolutely cared for.

I found this duet to be one of the rare exceptions where both books had solid storytelling from start to finish. It’s rich, vivid, with constantly evolving characters. The dual POVs gave so much insight into both Jade’s and Prescott’s mentality, their emotional state, and most importantly showed how far and how deep they’ve grown as individuals.

It’s well-paced, with tons of twists and turns that had me in suspense for the entirety of the time. I wish I could experience reading their story for the first time again. Jade and Prescott are a pair of all-consuming characters that deserved (and rightly received) my undivided attention. Their stories are full of genuine, relatable experiences, some of which I could completely relate to and sympathise with. These characters are flawed but there’s nothing about them I didn’t love.

“You were there when it mattered. When I was at my lowest, you were there, and you helped me cling to reality. Cling to life.”

This is one of Doe’s best work and reading it, it’s evident how much time and effort, heart and soul she’s put in ensuring Jade and Prescott’s story was a worthy one. And it is. From the grittiness to the fragility, I was blown away by the multitude of layers it contained and how well-balanced all the elements were within. Whilst the intense romance is undoubtedly an element I was gripped by, the entire cast of secondary characters came a close second in elevating Jade and Prescott’s world. The contrast and group dynamics in itself was a powerful presence and helped cast the atmosphere.

One of my favourite reads of the year. It’s the type of contemporary romance read that I effortlessly got invested in. It may fall under the New Adult umbrella but make no mistake these college students are well beyond their years. The friendships are goals just as much as the romantic relationships. It can be read as a standalone but this series is interconnected through its characters, and I highly recommend reading them all. Whilst each book has some form of angst, drama, and personal struggles, this story in particular deals with another level of heaviness and heartbreak. It contains sensitive subject matters that may be triggering or disturbing for some readers to deal with. Please proceed with caution.

As it is a continuous storyline, Kiss To Shatter needs to be read first before starting this one. But all in all, I recommend the hell out of this duet. It’s a reading experience that has surprisingly taught me a lot about self-worth, love, and sacrifice. If you’re in need of a good cry and in the mood to hunker down with a hearty romance story, then add this one to your immediate TBR. It delivers. If I could rate it higher, I would.

Luca King.

The notorious playboy.

A master of one night stands.

My constant shadow.

Wherever I went, he was always there. Until he wasn’t. One wild night at a masquerade party was all it took. I got pregnant, broke my engagement, and failed my family.

The worst part.

I had no idea who the father of my baby was. I had only one clue. A Prince Albert piercing. Not exactly a smoking gun.

My parents disowned me after I refused to marry the prospects they presented. It wasn’t my fault I became gun shy. The last four men I met ended up dead. It was safer to have this baby on my own.

Our world was a dangerous one. And without the protection of my family… I was running out of time.

So it left me with no choice but to disappear, leaving no trace of where I went.

That was until Luca King found me at my lowest.

Maybe I should have tried harder to stay hidden because he would surely be my destruction.

“I fell in love with a villain. A persistent villain.”

CWBeautyAndTheBeast_Kiss

This was an oh-so sweet final book in the Belles & Mobsters series! To be honest, I hadn’t given much thought to Luca in the previous books other than the fact that he was Cassio’s brother and that he’d eventually be a protagonist with his own story. But after reading this book I’m glad I went into it relatively unaware of what his story would be about because it ended up being unputdownable!

What makes this story stand out from the previous books in the series is that there was a deep history between Luca and Margaret. It’s evident as the story developed and with how much their relationship evolved throughout the years. There’s a genuineness in their coupling that made their relationship more in-depth and believable. After a string of alpha-hole after alpha-hole of heroes within this series, I hadn’t expected anything different with this last one, but Winners presented a true blue sweetheart in Luca and he has become of one my favourites from this group of mobsters. He’s definitely one playboy you shouldn’t judge by appearance.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the developments between Luca and Margaret. If you like the hate-to-love romance trope with plenty of fiery banter involved, then I highly recommend you add this mafia romance to your TBR. Belles & Mobsters is a series of standalone stories so each one can be read individually and at any order. Please note, Luca contains sensitive subject matters that may be triggering or disturbing for some readers such as, violence, abuse, and trauma triggered by haunting events. It’s intended for readers 18+ only.

It’s well-paced, told from dual POVs, and constantly keeps you on edge. I loved that it was filled with unpredictability but didn’t distract from the main storyline developing between Luca and Margaret— if anything it heightened the suspense and their dramatic relationship.

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect pairing from this series. They’re such a likable pair of strong-willed characters that kept me entertained, not only with their interactions but with their amusing inner dialogue throughout. Although there’s an age gap, it was hardly noticeable as their characters always seemed level in mindset. Their dynamics just worked with a distinct balance in roles between the two. There’s just enough possessiveness and resolve in Luca that makes him one desirable alpha hero. Margaret’s rebellious, but she’s also good-natured and passionate about a lot of things that matter to her.

This was a well-written, well-developed story, effortless to follow, and evokes a rollercoaster of emotions out of you. If you’re familiar with Winners’ books then you won’t be surprised in seeing a quirky character or two, and series crossovers. I haven’t read all of Winners’ backlist of books yet but there’s no denying there’s always a range of cleverly included appearances from her other dark/ mafia romances that has your curiosity piquing. The cast of characters in this series undoubtedly added comic relief, but more importantly they provided strong moral support for the MCs. I love seeing deep-set brotherhood and solid family dynamics, and just like the previous books in the series, this one had it in spades. It also had an amazing balance of raunchy romance and gritty mafia elements throughout that would thrill any fellow mafia romance reader.

All in all, it’s another gripping addition to the Belles & Mobsters series. It’s also a satisfying conclusion to the overall world Winners has vividly created. It does however leave certain things open for interpretation and a possibility for expansion. But this book had one HEA that was bittersweet but nevertheless, still had me completely and utterly sighing in happy contentment.

Author’s Note: Although not a dark romance, this duet contains DARK THEMES! You can find the full list of trigger warnings (which can contain spoilers) on my webpage: https://www.annabdoe.com/trigger-warnings

“I inhale her sweet scent—lavender mixed with sun and grass from hours spent on the field. She smells like home.”

TVD_Elena_Stefan_InBed

Kiss To Shatter is a siren song. I need more. Jade and Prescott are two characters I had always thought would only play minor roles; secondary characters who helped create the world-building centring around a group of friends navigating through college, but after reading this book my mind is completely reeling at the fact that it was so not the case. Jade and Prescott’s personal stories are gritty, complex, and just as (if not more) thought-provoking as some of the previous books in Blairwood University.

There’s a lot to unpack with this first half of the duet, but it was attention-grabbing from start to finish that I’m now eagerly anticipating the next book. There’s a sweet balance between darkness and lightness within this story that kept me engaged. It could easily have been a heavy-set melancholic narrative but Doe carried comic relief amongst the cast of characters, witty banter, as well as uplifting moments all throughout.

It’s well-paced storytelling with dual POVs that heightened the MCs thought process and emotions, and incorporated internal monologue. I recommend readers interested in starting this duet to first look into the trigger warnings as Jade and Prescott’s story deals with a handful of sensitive subject matters.

As someone who has gone through a similar experience as Prescott, I found myself instantaneously connecting with his character and sympathising with his dilemma despite his prickly persona. Jade faces a completely different set of hurdles but they’re just as real life, genuine matters that plenty of people can relate to. Although I found her reckless personality a little frustrating at times, the reasoning behind her behaviour is understandable. They bring about an emotional journey that’s full of unpredictability and impulsive choices that set the course of their evolving relationship.

“That’s what we are. Completely destructive, but unable to stay away from one another.”

Jade and Prescott both have strong personalities that have a way of clashing yet meshing together at the same time. It’s a hate-to-love trope that builds in anticipation and leaves you pining for more.

It’s a hearty, character-driven storyline filled with angst and drama. It can be read as a standalone but I strongly recommend you start from the beginning of the series as characters and relationships are interconnected, and the world-building is extensive. It’s a New Adult/ College backdrop that easily toes the line into Adult Romance with the seriousness and mature themes included.

I loved it. It’s another gripping addition to Blairwood University. Each book in this series has consistently been a winning read. Doe’s writing is mighty, complex, and well-developed. The storylines always reflect real-life matters and contain striking characters that tend to leave lasting impressions. The group dynamics in this series is something I’ve come to look forward to seeing other than the MCs developing romance as there’s a genuine sense of friendship and support system. Kiss To Shatter is a quality contemporary romance that I’m happily recommending to fellow romance readers. It’s the type of read you can really hunker down and get lost in. I can’t wait for Kiss To Salvage!

Betrayal. Destruction. Truth.

He says you can only rise up once you hit rock bottom.

Only be made whole once you’re fully broken.

I don’t know that there’s anything left to break.

Time is running out for me. Enemies are closing in at every turn.

But this time I won’t be alone.

One brother has vowed his protection. The other reaffirmed his hatred of me.

Yet they both want me.

But something dark is unraveling inside me.

An event too terrible clawing its way into my consciousness.

And even as things begin to change between us, it’s those memories that may undo us all.

“This is Dandelion. A little weird. Damaged. But ours. Ours.”

kate upton gifs Page 32 | WiffleGif

What an emotional journey! Knight has a talent for putting her characters through the wringer. Ruined Kingdom was a strong introduction to not only Amadeo, Bastian, and Vittoria’s depraved world but to their devilishly complex love triangle. Broken Queen got bloody, it unearthed secrets, and more than ever, it cemented the trio’s bond.

After the cliffhanger that concluded the first book I couldn’t read this one fast enough, and I found that I read the majority of it with bated breath. It’s tense, dramatic, and was set in an overall murky atmosphere.

It’s a continual storyline therefore Ruined Kingdom must be read first in order to read this conclusion. It’s fast-paced, told from multiple POVs, and is constantly developing. The dark themes and content resumed in this book but if you’ve already read the first one, then you know what to expect going forward. If not, please note there are sensitive subject matter that some readers may find triggering, such as graphic violence, kidnapping, and sexual assault. It’s intended for readers 18+ only.

As I mentioned in my review for the first book in this duet, MFM romance is not in my usual wheelhouse of romance reads, but Knight undoubtedly hooked me in with her characters and their twisted, yet unmistakable connection.

“I know one thing more surely than I’ve ever know anything in my life. We were fated, the three of us…”

I liked the contrast and group dynamics between these three MCs. They each had differences in their character but all worked well together. It’s evident their stronger together than they are apart. And despite the brothers sharing a heroine, there’s genuineness within their unique relationship. Unlike some love triangles I’ve encountered in other romance stories, there wasn’t anything awkward or unconvincing about these brothers falling for the same woman. They all bring something worthy to the relationship and I found myself instantly invested in seeing their relationship evolve.

From the very beginning I gravitated towards one brother more than the other despite finding both to be such likable morally grey heroes, and this second half of the duet only cemented my love for said brother. I was drawn a smidge more to his parts of the story and his interactions, in my opinion, left lasting impressions.

There’s full character growth and backstory with each of the protagonists in this story. Amadeo, Bastian, and Vittoria come full circle that left me genuinely happy to see them secure their HEA. Yes, it’s unconventional, but I ran with it because it’s fictional, it’s swoon-inducing, and after having witnessed what they had gone through, they deserved a second chance and to find some contentment in their lives.

It’s another amazingly well-written dark, mafia romance story by Knight. She’s racked up so many of them that I love whenever I come across series crossovers. The appearances made here by certain characters was a giddy surprise! Their addition to the storyline was seamless, added extra dimension, but in no way stole the limelight from the MCs.

I enjoyed reading this story and highly recommend it to avid fans of Knight, fans of dark/ mafia romances, and for those who also enjoy the MFM romance trope. It’s brutal, at times unsettling, but balanced with a scorching, ravenous romance between enemies-turned-lovers.
