I wasn’t supposed to fall in love with my wife. That wasn’t part of the plan.

From the moment I first laid eyes on Madelena De Léon, I felt a primal urge to protect her. Keep her safe. Her father had failed her. I would not.

She is innocent, and I have no business taking her to my bed. But Madelena and I are bonded. Our destinies inexplicably linked. As is our survival.

My past is dark. I’ve made many enemies and betrayal runs rampant in my world. But sometimes those closest to you are the most dangerous of all.

If I was a better man, I would let her go. I know it’s the only way to keep her safe.

But any goodness I had in me vanished long ago. I am a man condemned. I want what I want.

And what I want is her.

What a page-turning ending to The Augustine Brothers duet! With the cliffhanger Forgive Me My Sins concluded with, I couldn’t get to this second half of the duet fast enough. Santos and Madelena had pulled me into their twisted and deadly world and I was completely enveloped in their stormy relationship.

As I mentioned in my review for the first book, I had my inklings about the plot twists and certain characters’ motives, and this second half of the story revealed all the mysteries. Although I found most of it fairly predictable quite early on, I still enjoyed the overall reading experience. Knight’s writing is consistently effortless to follow, with vivid world-building, and characters full of personality and intrigue. Her books are dark romance comfort reads for me and this story is another addition to the collection.

Santos and Madelena’s relationship evolved from distrust and uncertainty to one of love and loyalty. Whilst their characters could’ve been a lot more fleshed out in my opinion, there was still plenty of growth by each of them that kept me invested in seeing their story through. The complexity surrounding these MCs certainly made things interesting— I loved the additional murder mystery/psychological thriller elements thrown into this dark romantic suspense. It has the familiarity of Knight’s usual dark mafia romances but with a little something different included that set it apart from the rest.

Santos is a unique MMC having a less stereotypical alpha persona than I’m used to seeing in Knight’s books, and is more a protective and caring, albeit morally grey hero throughout. He opens up about is brutal history but acknowledges his wrongdoings and regretful actions. What you see is what you get with him.

For the most part Madelena has a fragility to her but when push comes to shove, you see determination and a fight in her that gave her character some much needed backbone. They’re quite a dynamic pair with contrasting personalities that worked well together.

The secondary characters’ roles in this book had taken things up a notch. New developments popped up but I can’t say all had been worthwhile plotlines. There were a couple I would’ve loved to have seen play out in more detail, but there were others that had me questioning why they were even included in the first place as they had eventually fizzled out by the end with no real importance to the main storyline.

I’m one of those readers that always seem to fall in love with a character who ends up either not getting the heroine in the end or… they end up dead. There’s a character in this story that fits one of these two categories, and I was honestly bummed to see it. I’m secretly hoping Knight will spin it around and give this character some kind of reprise. One can dream. 🤞😅

The fast-pacing is consistent with the first book and is continually progressing. Although it’s a dark romantic story, the spice level is relatively mild in this book and more on the sweeter side.

Dysfunctional families and dynamics, twisted mindsets and secrecy, a diverse cast of characters, and two MCs who discovered a surprising bond between them. The Augustine Brothers duet was an amazing read to escape into. It had a variety of elements that created an overall gripping fictional world with certain scenes I’m still replaying in my mind.

They went through some gruesome and exhausting experiences, and dealt with some realistic toxic relationships that many may find relatable. It was bittersweet and certain conclusions were somewhat debatable, but all in all, I was still left in contentment seeing how Santos and Madelena’s journey wrapped-up.

I think fans of Knight’s work will enjoy this one. It’s a dark romance story that isn’t as gritty as others out there and would be a great story for readers still new to the romance sub-genre (as long as you have no issues with dark themes and certain triggering content such as strong violence, sexual assault, and death).

If you like dark romances with an enemies-to-lovers, arranged marriage trope within a mafia-themed high societal setting, I recommend adding this duet to your TBR.

I’m not supposed to fall in love with my husband. It’s not part of my plan.

Forgive me.

Those were the first words Santos Augustine spoke to me before we sealed an unbreakable oath. A contract signed in blood binding me to him as payment for my father’s sins.

Wearing the mask of legitimacy, this powerful crime family has returned to Avarice to punish those who have wronged them and take what they’ve always been denied, a place among the elite.

Forced to marry my enemy, I’m thrust into his world of secrets and betrayals.

My husband is a dangerous man. And he has dangerous enemies. But it’s when I’m attacked that his fury is unleashed.

It’s then I see what it means to belong to Santos Augustine.

And although I know the safest place for me is in his bed, I can’t let myself fall in love with my husband.

To put it simply… I loved it. Immensely. It had everything I expected a Natasha Knight romance novel would have, and it did not disappoint. Elements you can expect:

  • Tons of secrecy
  • Plot twists and suspense
  • Heartbreak
  • Some shady, shady characters
  • Complicated relationships

Nothing is what it seems where Madelena and Santos are concerned. One minute I’d be on the edge of my seat reeling, the next I’d be screaming into my pillow. It was utterly thrilling, angsty, and one hundred percent unputdownable.

Madelena is a mixture of damsel-in-distress and defiance, and you never know which side she’ll veer towards with each situation she’s thrown into. Santos is a conundrum that I found myself trying to decipher, and his unpredictability is one of the main factors in what kept me invested in seeing this story through. These MCs are broken in some way or another and it has resulted in their complex mentalities.

This is the first book in The Augustine Brothers duet and it painstakingly ends on a cliffhanger. It concluded with so many possibilities, plenty of developments that need resolving, and a handful of jaw-dropping plot points that I cannot wait to get to the bottom of in the next book. Knight has done an excellent job at creating a dark and curious world that I was easily transported to.

Just be aware that this dark mafia romance delves into sensitive subject matters that some readers may find triggering or disturbing to read. It contains graphic violence, domestic abuse, child abuse, self-harm, and mental and physical scarring. It has dark themes throughout, as well as sexual content intended for readers 18+ only.

If you enjoy dark, mafia romance books with a lot of push-and-pull between its MCs, I think this one is a must-read. Although there’s some spice, in comparison to some of Knight’s other books it’s not as steamy. Madelena and Santos’ relationship spans several years, and with how the story unfolds, I consider their intimacy a bit of a slow-burn development. This first book is an introduction to not only the dangerous elite world they’re associated to, but the intriguing group dynamics amongst the cast of characters. You’ll constantly be second-guessing anything and everything, and as the suspense builds, there’s a sense of desperation in the air that’ll have you anxious to figure out who can and cannot be trusted.

The characters are constantly evolving, and whilst they’re not completely fleshed-out, I have no doubt there’s still more to see. I fast became curious about the contrasting familial dynamics in Madelena and Santos’ respective families, so I’m hoping to see more of it in the next book. There’s a couple of secondary characters that caught my attention, and despite this being a duet, I’m lowkey hoping they get their own books in the future.

It’s well-paced storytelling and switches back and forth from the two MCs POV. There’s a sweet balance between the mafia and romance elements that makes this a solid dark mafia romance read. All in all, it’s a highly promising first half of the duet filled with intrigue, uncertainty, and seduction. It’s another well-put together narrative by Knight that I’m eager to read Deliver Me From Evil already! If you’re an avid fan, you’ll want to add this to your TBR.

• MY REVIEW •

“I’ve always wondered if there’s more out there.”

EmilyBrowning_Nightsky

This was a whirlwind conclusion to the Cruelest Oblivion Duet. It’s fast-paced, punchy, and dropped one shocking development after another. There was definitely a sense of urgency and desperation surrounding Jai, Chance, and their group of friends as they brace themselves for the inevitable all-out war heading their way.

Forget everything and everyone you’ve learned about and have even grown attached to in the first book. This conclusion will turn everything on its axis and you’ll find yourself trying to wrap your mind around the turn of events that take place.

The build-up of action and suspense in Cruelest Oblivion has carried over to Sweetest Awareness, along with the impressive individuals that were introduced.

I do feel that this second book was abrupt in comparison, with a lot to take in but finding very little time to do so. One of the main things I ended up loving in the first book was the diverse cast of characters and the dynamics within their group, and I’m glad to see it has only evolved since.

However, I am left with plenty of questions that I know I’ll probably never get the answers to. With how this part of the story developed the storytelling was slightly on the choppy side, and in my opinion certain developments needed to be more extensive. But in saying that, I loved that there were still some unpredictability with some of the twists that played out completely coming out of left field.

There’s a little spice here and there, enough to keep the romance element present, but its the growing relationships and their main objective in this world that’s become the main focal point of this book. As I mentioned in my review for Cruelest Oblivion, if you’re a fan of other dystopian worlds like Veronica Roth’s Divergent, and Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games, then I highly think you’ll enjoy the world Heard has created.

This is Heard’s debut into Dystopian fiction, and I truly hope she plans to venture back into the genre in the future. The world-building for this duet is vivid and leaves potential for expansion. Whilst I would’ve loved an epilogue, it still closes on a nice open-ended conclusion that left me in happy contentment.

Investing in these characters with their strong, individual personalities, and minor storylines developing in the background was easily done on my part. They’re flawed, emotionally-driven, and impulsive, yet they all have some lovable trait about them that had me rooting for their survival.

Heard had me returning to a genre I hadn’t read from in ages. It had an impressive premise that was well-executed overall in its storytelling. I love this duet! The writing was effortless to follow, kept me engaged from the first page to the last, and transported me to a captivating world. I highly recommend this duet to romance readers, even if you’re not big on Dystopian fiction. There’s plenty of action and suspense, strong friendships, and swoon-worthy romance that’ll keep you hooked!

“This is Dandelion. A little weird. Damaged. But ours. Ours.”

kate upton gifs Page 32 | WiffleGif

What an emotional journey! Knight has a talent for putting her characters through the wringer. Ruined Kingdom was a strong introduction to not only Amadeo, Bastian, and Vittoria’s depraved world but to their devilishly complex love triangle. Broken Queen got bloody, it unearthed secrets, and more than ever, it cemented the trio’s bond.

After the cliffhanger that concluded the first book I couldn’t read this one fast enough, and I found that I read the majority of it with bated breath. It’s tense, dramatic, and was set in an overall murky atmosphere.

It’s a continual storyline therefore Ruined Kingdom must be read first in order to read this conclusion. It’s fast-paced, told from multiple POVs, and is constantly developing. The dark themes and content resumed in this book but if you’ve already read the first one, then you know what to expect going forward. If not, please note there are sensitive subject matter that some readers may find triggering, such as graphic violence, kidnapping, and sexual assault. It’s intended for readers 18+ only.

As I mentioned in my review for the first book in this duet, MFM romance is not in my usual wheelhouse of romance reads, but Knight undoubtedly hooked me in with her characters and their twisted, yet unmistakable connection.

“I know one thing more surely than I’ve ever know anything in my life. We were fated, the three of us…”

I liked the contrast and group dynamics between these three MCs. They each had differences in their character but all worked well together. It’s evident their stronger together than they are apart. And despite the brothers sharing a heroine, there’s genuineness within their unique relationship. Unlike some love triangles I’ve encountered in other romance stories, there wasn’t anything awkward or unconvincing about these brothers falling for the same woman. They all bring something worthy to the relationship and I found myself instantly invested in seeing their relationship evolve.

From the very beginning I gravitated towards one brother more than the other despite finding both to be such likable morally grey heroes, and this second half of the duet only cemented my love for said brother. I was drawn a smidge more to his parts of the story and his interactions, in my opinion, left lasting impressions.

There’s full character growth and backstory with each of the protagonists in this story. Amadeo, Bastian, and Vittoria come full circle that left me genuinely happy to see them secure their HEA. Yes, it’s unconventional, but I ran with it because it’s fictional, it’s swoon-inducing, and after having witnessed what they had gone through, they deserved a second chance and to find some contentment in their lives.

It’s another amazingly well-written dark, mafia romance story by Knight. She’s racked up so many of them that I love whenever I come across series crossovers. The appearances made here by certain characters was a giddy surprise! Their addition to the storyline was seamless, added extra dimension, but in no way stole the limelight from the MCs.

I enjoyed reading this story and highly recommend it to avid fans of Knight, fans of dark/ mafia romances, and for those who also enjoy the MFM romance trope. It’s brutal, at times unsettling, but balanced with a scorching, ravenous romance between enemies-turned-lovers.

I never imagined my first trip to Italy would be to bury my father. But I stood alone in the cathedral with my father’s casket and a handful of soldiers to keep me safe.

It didn’t occur to me that anyone would disrupt the sanctity of the church. Would march in, weapons in hand and turn my world upside down.

But the Caballero brothers have little regard for the church and even less for my family.

They destroyed what peace I had.

They desecrated my father’s body.

And they took me for themselves.

I’m a princess in a tower in a breathtaking villa.

My bedroom overlooks the turquoise sea, but the door is locked.

And I have to contend with not one but two dragons.

“She belongs to both of us.”

KateUpton_Fans

Knight did it, and with such finesse! She has effortlessly had me reading an MFM romance and loving the hell out it! Now, I’m in desperate need of Broken Queen! 🙈

I’ve never been so jelly of a heroine be the meat in a seriously spicy Caballero brothers sandwich! 🥪 Ugh, some fictional characters have all the luck. Hehe.

All joking aside, this was another masterful dark, mafia romance by the wonderfully talented Knight that I’ll be adding to my favourite reads list. I salivated over the intrigue, the suspense, and the constant plot twists coming at me left, right, and centre! The multiple POVs worked well in bringing about each of the character’s perspective to the forefront. Seeing everyone’s mindsets added such complexity and dimension to the overall storytelling. It’s fast-paced, but in my opinion, only added to the excitement building between the three leading characters.

It’s evident early on that Vittoria favours one brother more than the other, and whilst I do see his appeal, I was pleasantly surprised to find the other brother had caught my eye just a smidge more. 🤏 But make no mistakes, I ended up loving both Caballero brothers in their own right, and I have no doubt other readers will be hard pressed in sticking to only one throughout this book. *waggles brows*

“Maybe we’re not the monsters you make us out to be, Dandelion.”

There’s strong familial dynamics (a tried-and-tested element in Knight’s books) and a great contrast of personalities between the brothers. Besides the romantic elements, the interactions between the Caballeros made this story a gripping read! The handful of subplots added layer upon layer of history and secrecy in both Vittoria’s family and the Caballeros that I was constantly percolating theories and predictions of where the story could lead.

Please note this dark mafia romance has dark elements that readers may find offensive and/or triggering. It contains graphic violence, child abuse, physical and sexual assault, and kidnapping. There’s also debatable con/non-con adult content. Intended for readers 18+ only.

The premise caught my attention, the characters sucked me in, and the storyline left me reeling. I rarely read MFM romance, but the believable chemistry sold me, and to top it off, there’s a vulnerability that Vittoria, Amadeo, and Bastian each possess that had me irrevocably invested in seeing their story through. I was immediately transported to the vivid world-building and there was a great introduction to the cast of characters. I’m hoping to see more character growth and relationships evolve further in the next book.

It’s a deviously twisted and depraved story that was an absolute page-turner. It had just the right amount of grittiness to counterbalance all the seduction. I highly recommend it to avid fans of Knight and to any romance reader who is a fan of dark, mafia romances and/or MFM romance reads. It’s the first book in the Ruined Kingdom duet and concludes on a cliffhanger. I would normally suggest to wait until the duet is complete before starting the first book, but it’s honestly too good to wait. If you’re willing to suffer through a little bit of a wait time for book two, then I say open the floodgates and read Ruined Kingdom now!

His ink on my skin. His ring on my finger. His protection for life. My heart as payment.

Nikolai:
She came to my territory to spy on me. No one does that and lives. But this girl, she’s a rare beauty, beyond any I’ve seen.
I want her under me, not under the ground. She’s a temptation I have to conquer, and so I make her an offer.
My mark, on her skin. The Volkov family insignia tattooed on her shoulder, to tell the world she’s mine, and she earns my protection.

It starts out as a game but becomes an obsession so fierce it might burn the world down.
Trouble is, I can’t tell who is winning the game.
The stakes have never been higher, and we’re both playing for keeps.

Sienna:
As a low-level street informant, I thought I’d finally gotten out and could resume my life, but I was mistaken. My handler had one last job for me.
He wanted me to worm my way into the world of Nikolai Volkov, Slovakian arms dealer and all-round a very bad person.
The first day of working at his mysterious Club V, I knew I was in over my head. Powerful, beautiful, and full of charismatic energy, he enticed me … and terrified me.

So here I am. A girl out of her depth, being dragged under by the kind of man she most certainly shouldn’t be messing with.
He says he will protect me, so long as I wear his mark and become his.
At first, I try to tell myself I can play his twisted games, but as time goes on, he takes over my body, my heart, and now he wants my very soul.

Nikolai Volkov is either going to be my downfall, or my savior, and I don’t know which.

“They say falling in love is the same as going insane, or becoming a drug addict.”

DavidGandy_HardStare

This first book in the Club V series was my introduction to new-to-me author S.R. Jones and the devious, angst-ridden underworld she has created. The premise was intriguing to say the least; I liked the idea of an undercover spy/ crime boss romance storyline.

The storytelling is well-paced, told from multiple POVs, and a constant emotional rollercoaster. I had expected a dark, suspenseful romance read, but found it to be less dark and gritty and more contemporary and angsty (which isn’t a bad thing). Although Nikolai’s world is set in a criminal syndicate backdrop, you don’t actually get an in-depth view into his world as his volatile relationship with Sienna is the focal point for the majority of the story. I haven’t looked into Jones’ backlist of books yet, so I’m unsure if this world already exists in other books but if like me and this is your first, just know the underworld element is not as vivid as it might seem.

But please note, it does contain sensitive subject matter that may still be triggering for some readers such as, sexual harassment/ assault and violence. This book is intended for readers 18+ only.

I love seeing witty, light-hearted banter here and there and occasional game-playing between leading characters. The first half of the book really sucks you in as Sienna and Nikolai begin their bargain. But as the story progresses and Sienna starts finding her groove, I did find her one-upmanship a little excessive at times. For the most part she’s a likable character and heroine, but some of her motives and actions were questionable (surprisingly more so than Nikolai’s). 🤔 Nikolai has a couple of different sides to him. He’s a possessive alpha but he’s also an acquired taste that I think plenty will find enticing regardless of his way of thinking at times.

The chemistry between the two is without a doubt hot; never knowing which direction their interactions end up—getting their mack-on or completely butting heads. Either way, these two have some serious addictive exchange throughout that kept me turning the pages.

“I can give her the life of a queen, but queens aren’t free. They remain trapped by their royal duties, and she would be trapped by what it means to be with a Volkov.”

However, their relationship and their individual characters could’ve used deeper, genuine developments. Not as much growth as I was hoping for, especially considering the complex situation Sienna and Nikolai have put themselves in. I was anticipating intensity and edge-of-your-seat moments that unfortunately never really occurred, and ultimately felt like something was missing from the overall ambience of the story that would’ve given it the oomph it so greatly needed.

But in saying that, it does have great bones, and as mentioned earlier the premise was what initially caught my attention. Despite lacking darkness and grit, as a whole it’s still an enjoyably sweet romance story with two leading characters who have quite a zingy coupling. As well as secondary characters who played pivotal roles in not only adding dimension and a third-party perspective to Sienna and Nikolai’s relationship, but also in displaying the structure, hierarchy, and loyalty to Nikolai and his expanding enterprise. It also teases you with Nikolai’s family dynamics and what the future holds for the Volkov brothers. I found them all to be such interesting characters that I’m curious to know more about their own life stories.

The conclusion to Nikolai and Sienna’s story kicks-off the continuation of the series with the next Volkov brother in Given to Him. From Sasha’s appearances in this book, I’m looking forward to reading his story next!

It’s a little tamer than the usual dark, mafia-type romance books I read, but I would still recommend it to fellow dark romance readers who enjoy reading about bossy alpha-heroes and defiant heroines. I think it’s a great read for those who are looking into dark romances but not quite ready to go gritty as of yet.

All I wanted is for my little sister Della to be safe and happy. And maybe, in brief stolen moments, I dreamed of a happy ending for myself with a brown-eyed man. That hope has turned into sharp, bright fear. There’s only survival now.

I’m the daughter of a controlling and cruel billionaire, so I understand about power. But I find myself fighting anyway. I find myself testing them.

I have claws and I bite. I’m not going down without a fight.

It’s like I have a death wish.

• MY REVIEW •

The conclusion to the Deception Duet was nothing short of drama, eroticism, and fresh beginnings. If Triple Threat was a kiddie pool for reverse harem, then Death Wish was a doggy-paddle through the deep end. I was not prepared for the change of pacing or scenery, and although there were certain parts I enjoyed, I’ll admit I was still clutching my metaphorical pearls for a lot of this book too! 🙈😅

“Ours. Ours. Ours.”

KissToTheNeck

I loved the first book, and whilst this one didn’t live up to my expectations, I still recommend this duet as whole to fellow dark romance readers and fans of the Midnight Dynasty world.

But in saying that, if you’re not a fan, or you’re not familiar with what you can expect from a reverse harem romance, then in my opinion you may want to give this one a miss. It’s heavy on sexual content.

This duet contains sensitive subject matters that may be offensive or triggering for some readers, such as domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual assault, violence and mature themes. Intended for readers 18+ only.

It’s a relatively quick full-length novel that you can easily read in one sitting. This is definitely one of those “it’s me, not you” type of books. I don’t think it’ll be for everyone’s taste. But I can say that I’ve read a few of Webster’s books and I always find her writing gets you intrigued right from the get-go. Considering the “terror triplets” are a pretty cruel villainous set of characters when they were first introduced with little to no chance of redemption, Webster has proven that some of the most devilish, most disturbing antagonists can still be loved. The Deception Duet is a prime example and by the end of this duet, you will be seeing these brothers in a more positive light.

I was happy to see the suspense and unpredictability that was built-up in Triple Threat continued onto this book. Other than their identical appearances, the brothers have plenty of things in common, but what proved to be an interesting dynamic are their differences, mostly when dealing with Landry. With multiple POVs, I ended looking forward to seeing the perspectives switch back and forth amongst them.

The initial premise of Triple Threat was what had me curious to see how the “Terror Triplets” would progress from villains to antiheroes. I loved the gradual story development, but in my opinion, it felt a little bit of a hit and miss in this second half. In my opinion it focused a lot more on Landry’s raunchy relationship with each brother more so than anything else. The serious matters that Landry and her younger sister had been forced into took a backseat to the smutty components of the book. The storyline wasn’t as in-depth as I would’ve liked, and the ending felt slightly abrupt.

The biggest thing (and probably the most surprising) is how much my preference changed from the first book to this one, and I think that has a lot to do with how each brothers’ character was developed, especially now that the setting has changed and we’ve set foot on their turf.

My favourite brother from the first book ended up relatively in the background in comparison to the other two, which I admittedly found disappointing. It’s quite obvious early-on that there’s one brother in particular who plays a bigger role and special connection with Landry. It wasn’t necessary a bad development— it was actually entertaining to see, but it didn’t necessarily come off fair for the other two.

Although seeing the complexity, contrast, and dynamics between these brothers was a major highlight. It was both interesting and at times amusing to see their brotherly banter and comradery.

Be on the lookout to see a few character crossovers from other books in the Midnight Dynasty. *waggles brows* 😉

Despite how the storyline played-out and eventually concluded, I’m still glad I took a chance on getting to know these brothers’ story since Skyscraper Cinderella (aka The Cinderella Trilogy). Death Wish wasn’t quite to my liking but nevertheless, Triple Threat is one of my favourite books from the Midnight Dynasty world, and why I would still recommend fellow romance readers to give their story a go.

Isabelle

Just when I was beginning to trust my husband, he betrayed me.

Just when I thought I was falling in love he showed me the beast he truly is.

I understand his thirst for revenge. But I don’t want to play this game of pawn and puppet master.

No matter how his hands make my heart race and my body crave his devil’s touch, I won’t give in.

I love his daughter.

But I can’t let myself fall in love with her father.

Jericho

I have exactly what I want. Revenge.

Soon everything the Bishops have will be mine.

But it will cost me more than I bargained.

Isabelle Bishop hates me. As she should.

I know what I am. And now she does too.

But falling in love with my wife was never part of my plan.

• MY REVIEW •

As more characters’ stories are told I am becoming more and more obsessed with the IVI world. Jericho’s and Isabelle’s story in the Devil’s Pawn Duet is a suspenseful and angsty addition to the exclusive secret society. It not only reveals the reasons behind the long-running feud between the St. James’ and the Bishops, but as the story unravels and a gradual development builds between Jericho and Isabelle, it prompts a melding of families, a rollercoaster of emotions, misguided trust, and a whole lot of raunchy romps!

“Just as she’s mine, so am I hers. We belong to one another. Until death do us part.”

TVD_DamonElena_Bed

I found this book slowed in pacing from the first one. Whilst it wasn’t as gripping as the first half of the story, I was still very much invested in seeing how things would turn out, not just with their relationship, but with how the plot twists from Devil’s Pawn would unfold.

Please note, this is a continuous storyline, you must read Devil’s Pawn (book one) first before reading Devil’s Redemption. It also contains sensitive subject matters that may be triggering for some readers such as, violence, child abuse, domestic abuse, suicide, and sexual assault. It also contains sexual content that borderlines con/non-con and minor BDSM. Intended for readers 18+ only.

What I took away most from this book is the strong familial focus. The St. James family may be a complex bunch and each one scarred in their own way but they’re all resilient, and despite any disagreements, they’re always a united front. Besides the interesting dynamic between Jericho and Isabelle, seeing interactions and contrast amongst his family was just as equal a highlight to look forward to. It might sound a little unusual as this is ultimately a dark setting romance story, but his family (as complicated as they are) provided some light and uplifting breaks in between intense scenes.

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t find Isabelle as likeable in this book as much as the first one. As the situation became more and more ominous, I found Isabelle’s mistrust and actions frustrating at times. Devil’s Redemption is Jericho’s second chance, an opportunity to break away from the cycle of his family’s tortured past, and his character growth is one main element that I ended gravitating towards (and rightfully so).

If you love tortured “alphaholes” whose character traits stem from heartbreak and a cruel backstory, then you need to meet Jericho St. James. You may not agree or sympathise with his behaviour at all times but you know where it’s stemming from, and that’s the beauty of his character— he still has redeemable qualities to him. Their feelings altered from hate to love throughout the course of their marriage, yet it’s Jericho who realises and embraces it first, despite the initial conflict between their families and his deep hatred of all the Bishops. Usually with the dark romance books I encounter, the heroine is the first to acknowledge her feelings, so I found it a refreshing change of atmosphere in this instance to see a bit of an emotional role reversal, per se.

“An angel for a devil.”

I would’ve loved a bit of more intensity and punchy suspense before the HEA but overall, it’s still an exciting read for avid fans of dark romances. As I mentioned earlier, this was an amazing addition to the IVI world that Knight (and Zavarelli) originally created and introduced with The Society Trilogy.

It’s very family-oriented with this book focusing a great deal on Jericho and Isabelle finding peace and learning to heal from their past.

Knight is masterful at writing dark romance stories with an enemies-to-lovers trope, that if you’ve read any of her previous work, you know that her characters always have zingy banter and hot chemistry between them right from their very first encounter. It’s what makes you instantly hooked on wanting to know their story. This one is no different!

It’s a must-read if you want to continue with the IVI world. Although this duet is a standalone story, I would still highly recommend you read The Society Trilogy first. It introduces you to their world, how their society operates, the familial and social standing within, and you’ll have a better understanding of the relationships of certain characters who make appearances in this duet.

A bittersweet conclusion to the Devil’s Pawn duet. It was tumultuous and at times heartbreaking but Jericho’s and Isabelle’s journey was undeniably heartfelt leaving me with happy contentment.

Isabelle

Jericho St. James hates my family.

Powerful, wealthy beyond belief, he is the most dangerous man I know.

And I belong to him.

He’s taken me from my home.

He plans to make me his wife.

And he’s made it very clear I’ll be sleeping in his bed.

But my beast has a secret.

His one weakness. One that makes hating him impossible.

He has a daughter.

And he’ll do anything to keep her safe.

Jericho

The Bishops stole what money cannot replace.

A life for a life. Now I’ll take one of theirs.

Isabelle is my pawn.

I will make her my wife.

I will bed her.

She will be mine in every way.

And once I take what I need from her, I will erase the Bishop family as if they never existed at all.

If you ever find yourself in the middle of a tough reading slump that you can’t seem to beat… read a Natasha Knight book. It never fails! Devil’s Pawn is not only going into my list of books that can kill a hangover, it’s also going into my list of books that “killed it” and WILL give you a savage hangover! 😜

“Beauty and her devil.”

TVD_DamonElena_CloseStare2

The more the IVI world expands, the more I get addicted. First with Santiago De La Rosa’s story in The Society Trilogy, now we have Jericho St. James’ in this first book from the Devil’s Pawn duet. Ooo-wee! The antiheroes from this exclusive society… they almost make you forget with all the swooniness, charm, and sweetness they can easily dish up, that there’s darkness and vengeance looming.

The characters’ backstories are what will immediately grab your attention. The classic enemies-to-lovers romance trope that Isabelle’s and Jericho’s tumultuous, yet developing relationship is wrapped in honestly had me salivating to see their interactions. Knight had a beautiful and compelling way of taking the tale of Beauty and the Beast (that has been retold many a times before) and reworked it into an intricately vivid and devious love story. I love the scheming, the secrecy, and the second-guessing of emotions between Jericho and Isabelle. What was suppose to be a simple plan of revenge— an eye for an eye, becomes a complicated and entangled mess of feelings. Add in a cast of secondary characters putting their two cents in, a contrast of dynamics, more complexity… and the plot thickens. *waggles brows*

I thought it was well-paced storytelling, never a dull moment with constant developments not just with Jericho’s and Isabelle’s relationship, but also with Jericho’s initial plans of revenge. The world of the IVI is dark, gritty, and will keep you in suspense. With how the world building has been created, it feels like the possibilities are endless, especially with the amount of secondary characters introduced that’ll have you just as intrigued by as the protagonists.

Whilst I’m familiar (and know what to expect) with Knight’s dark romance stories, and couldn’t get enough of Devil’s Pawn… I should mention that if Knight is a new-to-you author, there’s a chance this story may not be for you, even if you enjoy reading dark romances. There’s sensitive subject matters that may be triggering for some readers. Along with adult themes, it contains violence and attempted sexual assault. Please note, the storyline also involves degrading, humiliation, and debatable non-consensual acts. Intended for readers 18+ only.

I was hooked from the very first page to the very last. This is the first part of the duet, and I am honestly itching for the second book. Devil’s Pawn concludes on a massive (and cruel) cliffhanger that I am still reeling from. I have loved all the books I’ve read so far from Knight, and this was no exception. It had the perfect number of twists and turns, unpredictability, and jaw-dropping moments. Jericho St. James is an antihero with a delicious balance of devious behaviour and gentlemanly charm that draws you to him. Isabelle Bishop may be young but she’s a tough nut and has fighting spirit. Although there’s an age gap between the two, it’s hardly noticeable during their day to day interactions, unless it was specifically pointed out. There’s a genuineness in their chemistry and it’s honest-to-goodness smoking hot! 😜 I can only hope that this first book is just the beginning of Jericho’s and Isabelle’s character growth.

“Some things aren’t choices at all. Some are destiny. And my destiny is to ruin hers.”

I highly recommend this book to fellow dark romance readers who enjoy a devilish beauty and the beast inspired tale. It’s definitely a must read if you’ve already read and fallen in lust with The Society Trilogy and the exclusive world of the IVI set with its own rules and traditions that these characters live by.

I’ve always been a fan of books with an enemies-to-lovers trope, and Knight has written some of my all time favourites. Devil’s Pawn had a well-thought-out storyline, with a nice flow that was effortless to follow. The dual POVs not only provided each of the protagonists’ backstories in detail, but it also provided us readers a front row seat to the emotional rollercoaster Jericho and Isabelle experience whilst in each other’s company. Complete guilty pleasure read! I loved it and will undoubtedly read it over and over again until I can get my grabby hands on Devil’s Redemption!
