The authors of the Twisted Steel anthology have decided to come back with a second edition. They heard how much you loved it and listened to the readers. But, that’s not all. A few new faces have been added as well.

These USA Today and International Bestsellers have collaborated once again to bring you brand new biker stories that’ve never been published before. A combination of full-length novels and novellas are within the pages of this edition.

A couple of these authors have written about characters in their clubs you already adore, while others are launching a brand new series.

Each story takes place in a separate club, but you can always count on copious amounts of danger, suspense, angst but most of all – chemistry.

We ask you again: will these men and women put everything on the line for their brotherhood, or will they risk it all for love?

This collection includes stories from Dani René, April Canavan, Elizabeth Knox, Addison Jane, Claire Marta & Nia Farrell, E.C. Land, Erin Osborne, Amy Davies, Kristine Allen, Chelle C. Craze & Eli Abbott, Claire Shaw, Rae. B Lake, & Scarlett Black.

Bikers_SunsetRide

Please note this review is NOT for the entire anthology. It’s ONLY for The Biker’s Second Chance!

I’m a huge fan of James’ Evil Dead MC series and this story is a much anticipated one from a much loved character: Green!

And lemme tell you… it doesn’t disappoint in regards to making me swoon more-so over Green! His story was short and sweet, and shows a completely different side to him that I hadn’t expected (in a good way)! For those who aren’t familiar with this Evil Dead MC brother, Green is considered the guy who doesn’t really take himself or anything too seriously. He’s warm fuzzies and funny to boot but was never into wanting to settle down. Until of course… his story! 😉

He’s older now, most of his fellow MC brothers have settled down and started families of their own, and it’s made him really think about his future. Opportunities to get his life in order come through in the way of moving back into his childhood home, and receiving an invitation to his high school reunion. The possibility of seeing Sara, his old high school girlfriend in this reunion has him reminiscing their time together and how their relationship ended all those years ago. It’s given him the mindset that seeing her in this reunion and catching up could be their second chance to reconnect romantically.

I’m hoping when James releases his book later in the year that it’s extended a little more. I love Green but his story was way too short! It was addictive and I couldn’t read it fast enough, but I also think there were a lot of things that could’ve been more in-depth.

I’m not always a fan of flashbacks to the past in storylines as it can get a bit tedious and slow the pacing down but the flashbacks provided in Green’s story elevated the moments and gave their relationship layers. Despite the length of the story being on the shorter side, James managed to get me invested in Green’s and Sara’s relationship. I was already a big fan of Green but Sara was a completely new character. In a short span, I already found myself liking her personality and overall presence.

I do adore the fact that Green had history with Sara. It makes their relationship believable especially with how quickly things progressed in the story. I love that they were so in sync with one another like no time has passed.

– MC Romance
– High School Sweethearts
– Second Chance Romance

This was more MC-lite in comparison to the previous books from James’ series. I didn’t necessarily mind it because it certainly sets it apart from the other brothers’ stories where theirs had some dark elements. Green’s and Sara’s definitely centred more on the romance side of this MC romance story. I love the second chance aspect and that it was Green who ended having this trope — it provided Green with more dimension from his usual lighthearted, jokey side that we constantly saw in the series. He was always the comic relief amongst the brothers in the MC and whenever he made an appearance in any of the books his scenes were instant LOL moments, so his story was much anticipated. I’m happy to say it lived up to what I hoped it would be. It was swoon-worthy. We get to learn more about Green outside of the club. We get to meet the chick who snagged Green’s heart. And overall, it completely hooked my attention from start to finish. I’m looking forward to his official book release later in the year! #TeamGreen #TeamIrish 🍀

A nice, quick MC-lite romance story you can easily read in one sitting, and will have you happy sighing by the end. The world James has created and expanded never ceases to amaze me, and this story is a fab addition to her series! It’s a must read for her fans, and avid fans of her Evil Dead MC series. It can technically be read as a standalone but your experience with Green and his club would be so much more heighted if you read the series from the beginning.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

FYI: Nicole James will re-release this story as an Evil Dead MC series standalone with a bonus epilogue, and re-titled as GREEN. Release date is November 18!

Ronan.

His name thrums through me like a heartbeat.

I climbed out of the smoldering crater of my life only to find myself back in the middle of a slow-motion trainwreck. I’m hunted, torn between my past and present, ripped apart by two warring families. My husband is dead, and his killer is the only man who’s ever felt the deep well of emotion I keep hidden from the world.

Ronan.

Vicious and scarred—his rough touch is seared into my skin, but his soft caresses are what break down my walls bit by bit. Until there’s only me left. My soul in his bloody hands, and my broken heart beating just for him. Only him.

Ronan.

My shadowy protector, my phantom lover—kiss me or kill me, I don’t care. As long as you’re the one who does it.

• MY REVIEW •

KathMc_SaddenedLook

Woah. One word comes to mind… ANGSTY!!!!

This book was one big, very dramatic, angsty continuance from where Stolen Hearts concluded! I felt like the pacing definitely slowed down since the first book, especially now that Ronan and Poppy are out of their normal environment and trying to figure out a way out of their problems.

Please note, similar to the first book this one also has sensitive subject matter that may be triggering for some readers such as violence, physical abuse, and attempted kidnapping. It also contains detailed sexual content — readers 18+ only!

This part of the story will have you learning more about Ronan. He was such an enigma in the first book, and in this one you will get to see glimpses of his past, how he’s become to be the man he is now, and the reasons behind everything that has happened so far where Poppy is concerned.

Unfortunately, by the end you’ll still be left with tons of questions about Ronan. He’s a complex character who tends to blow hot and cold in a blink of an eye. Now that the level of drama has escalated, his intensity has also increased. You’ll either swoon for him, want to give him a comforting hug, or the complete opposite wanting to throw things at him for being such a frustratingly closed-off man. Gah! 🙈

Poppy and Ronan are in unchartered territory, and are forced to be in each other’s space. They struggle with their growing emotions for one another, and honestly reading through their push-and-pull relationship gave me mixed feels. On one hand I was happy to see some development in their relationship (no matter how complicated it is), yet on the other hand any sort of new development between them was fleeting and I was left reluctantly disappointed.

Although there are plenty of steamy scenes, it still comes off as a bit of a slow-burn romance. There’s a lot of pining involved and, in a way, a twisted unrequited love situation going on between them. To truly understand it all, you’ll have to read this story. 😉

KissToTheNeck

But ugh… If you love angst in your romance reads, then you will absolutely get your fill from this one. I couldn’t help but sympathize Poppy for what she has been through and what she’s still going through in her life. From the very beginning, she’s been portrayed as this meek young woman; a pawn in the world of the Constantines and the Morellis. She’s forced into situations where she has very little to no choice of her own. I admit the overall atmosphere is gloomy and isolating, but I’m relieved to see O’Keefe has included unexpected comic relief here and there. Some of which could be as small as a funny one-liner but it certainly had me perking up and smiling… and most of these light-hearted moments were due to Poppy. So, I’m hoping despite with where things are heading that we get to see her become more resilient and head-strong.

There’s a couple of secondary characters introduced that played such pivotal roles in Ronan’s life. Not only do they add another layer to the already intriguing plotline, but they shine a whole new light to Ronan that makes you just as confused about your feelings towards him as Poppy is. I love a good morally grey character, and Ronan is the epitome of a grey character who keeps you on your toes.

It’s told from dual points of view with inner monologues included from both protagonists. O’Keefe has written their stories quite well that you instantly feel the change of atmosphere whenever it switches back and forth between Poppy’s and Ronan’s points of view, but throughout it all there’s always this shroud of edge and uneasiness hanging over them.

Shadowhunters_Clary_Alone

It’s a relatively quick read, but as I mentioned earlier it had a slower pacing, and wasn’t as action-packed as the first book. But it’s still as intriguing and suspenseful as ever, and there’s a monumental mic drop moment within the last few chapters that had me literally sitting up with my jaw dropping! 😲😱 This was one plot twist I hadn’t bargained on. It never even crossed my mind that it could head down this direction. I don’t know if you guys will be ready for it either, but I can guarantee it’s one you won’t want to miss out on!

There’s an array of shady characters all of whom had me side-eyeing. I love the conspiracy and scheming that surrounds Poppy and Ronan, and constantly wondering what will happen next. It’s a continuous storyline so make sure to read Stolen Hearts first. Also, this book ends on a cliffhanger (a cruel one at that), so keep that in mind when starting this series. But overall, the storyline was gripping, continually building-up, full of twists and turns, and will have you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend it to readers who love contemporary romances that have dark, gritty elements thrown in.

It’s also a must read for those who’ve read other books set in the Midnight Dynasty.

Oakley captured my attention.

From the very first second.

The moment she sassed me, even though I was wearing my club cut, I knew she had fire in her soul.

As the tech man for the Houston Defiance MC, it’s my job to know everything. To always be ahead of the game. To outwit, outmatch, and outmaneuver our enemies at every turn. They may be smart, but I’m smarter.

Finding out this firecracker has ties to a rival MC catches me off guard.

And my first instinct is to protect her.   Damn the consequences.

Taking her under my wing is impulsive, reckless, electrifying.

And I’m more than aware of the repercussions.

But what if she is not who she says she is?

Those close to me loathe the idea of us, and they’re becoming more of an issue.

But things are not always as they seem.

With new threats comes chaos and danger at every turn.

But perhaps the war lies closer to home than even we realize.

From International Bestselling Author K E Osborn comes the highly anticipated fourth book in the Houston Defiance MC Series.

• MY REVIEW •

BikerChick_Helmet

Ooh-wee!! 👏👏👏👏 It’s official… Neon has stolen my heart! Move over alpha-holes… *singsong voice* hot nerd alert! Whoever said nerds aren’t cool have clearly not met Neon. And they need to!

This is the fourth book in the Houston Defiance MC but I gotta say it now, I truly recommend you read the previous books first before delving into this one. Not only will you get the entire world-building experience, you’ll see the different dynamics and relationships between not only the previous couples but with the brothers of the MC. There’s a ton of history especially between Neon and his President/ childhood best friend Zero and some of the issues that occur in this storyline is connected to their past. You won’t get the intensity and the magnitude of the problems they’ve gone (and still currently going through) just by reading this book alone. But for readers who haven’t read the previous books or not willing to read them first prior to this one, Osborn does do a good job at making sure you’re caught up with everyone’s situations.

I’m an avid MC romance reader and I’ve read heaps of them throughout the years, but I find that unless the Motorcycle Club as a whole is POC, then the majority of these book series’ lacked diversity in characters. I’m excited to see Osborn has incorporated more diverse characters into the Houston Defiance MC by having both her leading characters have mixed heritage.

For a reader who is also a POC (person of colour), I truly gravitate towards any character who may have similarities to my appearance, even the smallest physical trait such as a heroine having dark hair and tanned skin instantly gets my attention, and that’s what Osborn has done when she introduced Oakley into this series. It didn’t hurt that she had a lot of the same interests as me. Oakley is a biker chick who not only has a love of bikes but fast cars too. She’s sassy and stubborn but is also somewhat of guys gal as well.

Neon is the club’s tech whiz. He is brains, brawn and all heart. I’ve loved both Zero and Kevlar (with Wraith a close third) after reading their stories, but the more books I read in this series the more I was interested in reading about Neon because he always seemed like a sweet person with a tortured soul. He goes through a lot in his story constantly being relied on by others, and although his a biker in 1%er motorcycle club, in comparison to his brothers, he oozes gentlemanly vibes (most of the time). Impulsive soothe my craving for him! Neon is exactly how I pictured him to be and I was hooked from start to finish!

Biker_CoupleRide

Neon and Oakley are likable characters and there’s plenty of swoon-worthy moments between them. But like the previous couples in this series, they go through a rollercoaster of emotions and a handful of roadblocks throughout. I may not have liked their attitudes or agreed with their actions in every situation that they faced but I could sympathize with their reasonings. But also, just like the previous books in this series, you can still count on a great amount of romance (HEA included), a steady storyline, and MC elements!

But please note this story in particular contains sensitive subject matter that may be triggering for some readers such as violence, kidnapping, attempted rape, and mental and psychological disorders. Some scenes are detailed and graphic— please take into consideration before starting this book.

There’s an amazing cast of secondary characters included, albeit most of them are MC brothers but they never fail at providing some lighthearted comic relief when needed.

Since Oakley is a professional racer, I was hoping to see more of what she can do on the track, but I’m glad her talents weren’t completely wasted with Osborn including some entertaining moments here and there. And despite the seriousness of Oakley’s, Neon’s and the club’s current position, the story isn’t overly dark or gritty as other MC romances out there. It still however includes adult themes, so readers 18+ only!

You can’t really have an MC story without having some drama thrown in, and this one was a constant drama-filled story where one thing after another happened. Its storytelling has great pacing and told from first person dual points of view. I loved seeing Neon finally have his story told and for him to land the perfect girl for him. Putting aside the romance, this story opened doors for a few possible plotlines in upcoming books and I’m eager to see where the series is heading in the future.

Bikers_FastRide

Was the storyline predictable? Did it have any plot twists? To that I have to say yes and no. Yes, there were some things I had inklings about that did end up occurring… but it also had plot twists mixed in, if you get my drift. Osborn teases you with potentials and when the time’s right, not only does she drop it but she adds another layer that you didn’t see coming on top of it. Just when you think you know which direction it’s headed, something else happens that keeps you on your toes.

Overall, another superb addition to the Houston Defiance MC family! Not only do I recommend this book, I recommend the entire series. Every story and couple is different, dealing with their own issues, but throughout it all the brothers all have each other’s backs. Each one has a swoon-worthy hero, a heroine that catches their attention, and a story that’s dripping with suspense! As an MC romance reader I can tell you now, this feeds one’s craving!

I’m obsessed with Laila Fitzgerald. There, I finally admitted it. I’ve tried not to want her. I tried to step aside when my best friend said he wanted her. But it’s proved impossible. She’s too gorgeous and talented, too charismatic and badass, for me not to want her for myself.

Unfortunately, though, karma’s a bitch. In trying to do the right thing by my best friend, I’ve done the wrong thing by myself. I’ve pushed her away every chance I’ve had. Dug way too deep a hole to crawl out of . . . And now, Laila downright hates my guts. And rightly so.

But since we’re stuck together, yet again—and, this time, even more closely—I’ve decided nothing will stop me from getting what I want. This time, I’m going to figure out a way to coax Laila into falling out of hate with me . . .

• MY REVIEW •

Party_People

👏👏👏 Oh my savage. I loved it! A solid conclusion to The Hate-Love Duet! Just like the first book, I was enamored with Laila and Savage, and seeing the next developments between them.

The first book focused on Laila’s and Savage’s puzzling merry-go-round of emotions for one another whilst navigating through music tours, media interviews, and building connections with other artists. This book focuses on the whirlwind of changes that has occurred in the short amount of time since they first met and toured together. You’ll see the inner workings of the industry, new music ventures, and more drama whilst juggling their personal and public images.

I know it’s still considered early days but who cares?! I’m calling it… This duet is one of my favourite reads of 2021! I honestly wasn’t expecting to fall in love with a rock star romance story as I don’t usually gravitate towards that romance sub-genre. But Rowe has captured my attention with the world she has created and the complex but lovable characters she’s introduced to readers. I highly recommend it! It’s a journey full of highs and lows but throughout it all you’ll get invested in seeing how things will play out. I might’ve gotten annoyed with Laila on a number of occasions throughout reading this book 😅 but Savage was right there to break my annoyance by (eerily) mirroring my exact thoughts… resulting me doing great big “boo-yahs!” 🙌🙌 What’s that saying? Great minds think alike. Lol.

I went through an emotional roller coaster. This book gave me all the feels. I went from giggling to being annoyed, to blubbering (and needing x amount of tissues), to happy sighing.

RockOfAges_RockOut

One thing that was rock solid was my love for Adrian Savage. He’s perfectly imperfect. His flaws and acknowledgement of them is what makes him a redeemable, heart-thumping character. His emotions leaped off the pages and couldn’t help but rub off on you. He’s such an authentic character and despite his high-profile image, his quite relatable. I love the layers and the reasons behind his personality traits. He’s a “tortured artist” with cool rock star status— the more his story developed, the more you realize that behind that image is a troubled man in need of guidance.

My affection for Laila may have wavered here and there whilst reading this book, but I am still Team Laila! There wouldn’t be all the hilarious commentary and banter without her. 😉 She’s the type of character who I can picture being good friends with but can have disagreements at times (but that’s all friendships). She has some great qualities about her I respect. She’s loyal to a fault, she loves wholeheartedly, and when she’s not being overly dramatic, she’s down right bubbly and fun!

But despite my hang-ups with some of Laila’s actions in this book, I can’t deny I adored Savage and her together. Some of my favourite parts were them just hanging out getting to know one another. Their road isn’t an easy one, they go through a lot of insecurities, jealousy, and immaturity which resulted in setbacks in their relationship. But I found it all the more gripping to see how they overcome each concern.

The direction of the story took a turn from the first book and I admit the main plot was something I wasn’t expecting but it was intriguing. This is a work of fiction but if there’s truth to some of the situations that occurred, I actually wouldn’t be all that surprised but it’s refreshing to read about. The details included is what makes this story stand out. So many things were happening but every single one of them was wrapped up beautifully that by the end you’re not left wondering or asking questions. Rowe covered all her bases from Laila’s and Savage’s relationship, to their careers, to their personal issues, to everything! I legit can’t think of anything that I felt was left unfinished.

Heidi_Clapping

What I absolutely adored about this book (as well as in the first) is that Rowe went above and beyond in encompassing Laila’s and Savage’s world to the readers. There’s certain unique touches included — I won’t spoil what the extra content is for those wanting to read the duet but I’m not going to lie, it works so well when reading the ebook edition. 😉🤐

An overall vivid and progressive story of two people who started off on the wrong foot and only grew from there. From constant secrets, misunderstandings, and gameplaying, to one of second chances, realization, and a gradual development of a relationship. There’s no denying how much work and growth Laila and Savage go through, not only in their relationship but individually as well.

If you enjoy the following tropes in your romance reads, then I think you’ll enjoy this duet:

  • Contemporary Romance
  • Rock star Romance
  • Hate to Love
  • Fake Relationship
  • Insta-Love

It’s an exceptional love story— well-paced, and the dual points of view continued on from the first book. I love the friendships, the camaraderie amongst the characters, and without a doubt the music that accompanied their journey!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½

Thank you Lauren Rowe and Candi Kane PR for the opportunity to read an advanced copy! 💗

My husband hates me. But he’s also the only man who can save me.

Taken by a stranger, Santiago is my only hope. Except that I don’t know if he’s dead or alive. And for as cruel as he can be, the thought he might be gone is unbearable.

But he has nine lives, my monster.

He’s not finished with me yet. And soon I’m back at The Manor. Locked in my room. At his mercy.

I know I am despised.

I know I have become the face of his vengeance.

But there’s something else too. Something between us. It’s a dark and gnarled thing. And it has its claws around my heart.

• MY REVIEW •

TVD_Elena_Smirk

Oooh things have just gotten more complicated! I didn’t think situations could get any more fucked up between Ivy and Santiago…. but man, was I wrong!

Things to consider before starting this book:

  1. This is a continuous story. You will have to read Requiem of the Soul first.
  2. This is book two in this trilogy, so yes, like the previous one, this too will end in a cliffhanger.
  3. There are sensitive subject matters that may be triggering for some readers such as, violence, non-consensual sex, domestic abuse, and attempted suicide.
  4. This is dark romance with adult themes — readers 18+ only!

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way let’s continue, shall we?

There’s a lot of complex and damaging situations going on in Reparation of Sin. Just when you think one fire is being put out, there’s another being fanned by a mystery antagonist(s) — whom at this point could be ANYBODY! 🤔

TVD_Damon_Drinking

Vengeance, hate, and jealousy is what’s driving these characters to take action. Whilst some parts of the storyline I found fairly predictable, one thing I am absolutely clueless on is who the true villain is. This is a dark, gritty romance that is full of suspicion, ulterior motives, and all around shady characters. It’s already 2/3 of the way through the story and I’m still hesitant of Ivy and Santiago. Eeep.

I’m going to be brutally honest… there are a ton of “facepalm” moments throughout. There are a couple of characters who stuck out like sore thumbs in this book that had me wanting to rip my hair out of frustration. But you know what? I commend the authors and their book for evoking deep emotion out of me. Just as Requiem of the Soul, this one held my attention and I was wholly invested in seeing the next obstacle in Ivy’s and Santiago’s twisted marriage. It picks up right after the conclusion of the first book, and ultimately starts the next plot in the story. The devious characters are in full force, and what’s worst is that it seems no one can be trusted in this world. Lots of little things are happening and they’re all interconnected and relating to Ivy and Santiago.

TVD_DamonElena_LookAtMe

And throughout it all, you’re witnessing the push and pull in their relationship. The twisted back and forth hate to love to hate mentality with these two has amped up because it’s more than vengeance at stake now. You’ll see Santiago struggle not only with his undeniable feelings for Ivy but with new developments brought on by his family and The Society. His inner monologue ended up being one of my favourite things to see.

Ivy on the other hand is more willing to open herself up to her growing feelings for Santiago but it seems every time she takes a leap, she falls flat on her ass, which I think is a big reason as to why at times she came off pitiful. Not going to lie, I felt disappointed in her decisions throughout this book. I could nitpick certain things that occurred that Ivy could have easily avoided. But funnily enough when I think back on what I’d read, it’s almost as if I just finished watching a turbulent episode of a telenovela. 😅 Hot, cold. Enemies, lovers. Trust, don’t trust. *phew!* There’s so much drama! Even between the sheets.

TVD_Elena_LoveHateAFineLine

Things are escalating and they’re escalating like crazy! Both Ivy and Santiago do some very questioning things. I can only hope that they redeem themselves in the next one. I wish I could say this book won’t leave you hanging like the first one did but I’d be lying. The cliffhanger in this one is torturous. If you had any patience, you’d wait for the third book before starting this trilogy. 🤭

Knight and Zavarelli fans, Ivy and Santiago’s story is not to be missed! If you enjoy dark romance reads, I think this storyline will be right up your alley. It has suspense, chemistry between the hero/ heroine, intense dynamics between a range of characters, and a storyline that’ll have you hooked with its twists and turns.

There’s a lot of intrigue surrounding all the characters in this world not just with protagonists, and I feel like we’ve only scratched the surface. There are a couple of secondary characters from the first book… *cough* “C” and “J” *cough* whom I was hoping to see more of and I’m giddy to say I got my wish! 🙌🙌 Despite having only a scene or two in this book, they played vital roles… aaaaaaand their personal story was divulged (I would love a full length novel on them but if it never happens, I can happily say I’m content with the appearances they made in this book).

It’s told from dual points of view and although it has slowed down a little in comparison to the first book, I still consider it to be fast-paced, and the world-building is lush! I’m talking quality atmosphere, dimensional storytelling, and complex characters! 👌 It’s definitely elements you would expect from both authors. Looking forward to the next book!

I’ve tried to like Adrian Savage, the mercurial frontman for Fugitive Summer, while serving as his band’s opening act on tour. We’re stuck together for three months, after all. And I’m well aware I’m lucky to be here.

But it’s proved impossible. He’s far too rude and dismissive a guy to get along with. And way too good at getting under my skin. In fact, at this point, I think it’s fair to say I downright hate his guts.

Global thirst trap that he is, though, I’m finding it extremely difficult not to want to jump Savage’s bones, despite how much he infuriates me. I hate myself for it. But my body is going rogue on me. It doesn’t matter, though. I’m determined to resist him.

In fact, what I’ve decided is that, as long as I’m here and stuck with him, I’m not only going to give Savage the sound tongue lashing nobody else around here has the balls to deliver, I’m going to bring that bad boy to his knees.

• MY REVIEW •

Wow. Just wow. I honestly wasn’t expecting to get sucked into such a vivid world of rock stars, wild parties, and stereotypical groupies but I did… and hey! I could go again! 🙌 I can’t wait to get stuck into book two!

Concert_Groupies

Lauren Rowe just showed me what I was missing out on with this book! I can’t believe I haven’t discovered her and her books earlier but with how much I enjoyed this one, I’m kinda chuffed it was my introduction to her work!

Right off the gate, you’re thrown into Laila’s and Savage’s world, schmoozing with celebrities and other artists in the music industry. Going in, there were a lot of details to get through, which at first I thought would be overwhelming, but once you start getting the feel of the atmosphere, the pacing, and start remembering who the secondary characters are by name the world kind of envelops you.

The blurb practically tells you this is a hate to love romance story and when you’re first introduced to Laila and Savage and see how their story starts, you quickly realize how it has become that situation… and I’m not going to lie I found their escalating banter mixed with their constant sexual frustration HILARIOUS! I’m talking belly-laugh funny! 😂🤣

I’m not going to give plotlines away (because duh, that would be a spoiler), it’s really one of those storylines you really have to experience for yourself. But just know it’s romance full of substance and feels!

And there’s no doubt about it, Laila and Savage have chemistry and spark. It can be difficult for that type of chemistry to leap off the pages and be believable but Rowe nailed it! I was constantly on the edge of my seat, all eyes on what would happen next between the two. I also adore the secondary characters that played a big part in making each situation, each scene all the more entertaining and intense.

HilaryDuff_Smolder

This is what you can look forward to with this book:

  • Hate-to-love
  • Contemporary romance
  • A complex rock star hero
  • A sweet and sultry heroine
  • Game playing
  • Zingy banter

I admit I haven’t read much rock star romances in the past because I found the few I did read, the hero almost always was too arrogant, too cocky, and alpha in an off-putting way that did not make me swoon. But Savage is different. He does have the arrogance, and the cockiness, but it was in a jovial, good-natured way that you can’t help but smile at. It also helps that as the story progresses you get more and more insight to his personality and his life both in and out of the music industry. There were moments where you’ll find him to be the hot rock star that he is, but then there’ll be moments you see Savage turn that side of him off and he becomes so relatable and down to earth.

Guitar_Playing

Laila on the other hand is a firecracker! Lol. I’ll admit my thoughts on her changed with each new situation. But overall, she’s still very personable. Laila is this up and coming young star who’s still a little starstruck herself. In my opinion her reactions and her somewhat immaturity to certain things felt authentic. She’s out there, a little childish at times but I’m considering it as just another layer in what makes her character.

Rowe has created some complex characters here. I love that they’re those more-than-meets-the-eye type of characters and the further I read, the more I was invested in seeing both their individual stories and where their unusual relationship was headed.

Such a fun, entertaining read set in a behind-the-scenes backdrop of the music biz with a cool, steady-paced storytelling and told from first person, dual points of view. Besides learning about our protagonists, you get snippets of the secondary characters as well. I gathered relatively quickly that these minor characters have their own stories, and despite not having read them (yet), I didn’t get the vibe that I was missing anything in regards to the relationships these characters have with one another. Rowe has amazingly provided enough backstory that it flows with Laila’s and Savage’s own, yet at the same time has you intrigued to want to check out their books next.

This is book one in The Hate-Love Duet but it doesn’t (thank the book gods) leave you in a painstakingly cruel cliffhanger. It actually concludes quite nicely — almost like finishing an episode of a really cool, addictive tv show that has a continuous storyline, and you’re just waiting for the next one to air. Luckily you guys won’t have to wait too long for book two!

Other than my own teensy issue with Laila’s attitude at times that I was not a fan of, this book was hard to fault! If you’re a fan of contemporary romance books with rock star heroes, or if you’re new to this sub-genre and looking for your next read, then I highly recommend you give this one a go.

HilaryDuff_ILoveIt

It has a strong, detailed storyline, easy to follow, and doesn’t stray from its premise. The characters have unique personalities and will certainly hold your attention. There’s dimension and a great balance of romance, friendship, and musical elements within the story that makes it a genuine rock star, contemporary romance. There’s tons of funny moments throughout that keeps the overall atmosphere light-hearted.

There’s also a little surprise addition towards the end that I thought was an ingenious touch by Rowe that makes it all the more believable that these are singers you’re reading about. Falling Out of Hate With You is a winner in my books!

Betraying the most powerful man in New York wasn’t something I ever envisioned when I first started playing games with Winston Constantine. But he’s engaged in far more dangerous games than ours, and his enemies are out for blood.

Winston has my heart, the Morellis have incriminating photos, and I’m left with nothing except three stepbrothers who want to hurt me and a future in doubt. I knew Winston wouldn’t be my prince charming, but that didn’t stop me from falling for him.

After all, the slippers fit, and I let myself believe I’d be dancing with Winston forever.

Until too much truth comes to light.

Until I realize instead of ruling the board, I was just a pawn.

In the end, I have only one question. When his game with me is over, will I be able to pretend as if the glass slipper wasn’t a perfect fit?

• MY REVIEW •

PrettyWoman_TowerClimb

Ahhhh! I recently finished reading the third and final book in Webster’s Cinderella trilogy and I am left reeling, feeling giddy-happy, and all around content with how Ash and Winston’s story wrapped up. This book started off strong and kept at it all the way through to the end. There was just so many things happening that it was hard to put down!

This was an action-packed third installment. A lot of things were left up in the air from the second book that I was itching to get to. Same as the previous books in this trilogy, it’s fast-paced storytelling and told in first person, dual points of view. Whilst it took some getting used to with the difference in age between Ash and Winston, I’m happy to say by this third book I was smiling at their dynamics. The cool, calm and collected mature personality of Winston and the youthful, carefree, and teenage rebelliousness of Ash. I’m late to the party, but for some insane reason I finally found their unique, taboo relationship adorable and just so well-suited now. After two books and a steady progression, Ash and Winston have rubbed off on each other and a somewhat balanced-out coupling has formed. The power and say-so is not all up to Winston anymore. Ash is finally getting some of her input and Winston is all but happy to entertain her wants and needs.

PrettyWoman_RescuedHer

👋 So long to the cold-hearted façade towards Ash… (and to be honest it’s made him more personable in my eyes). You can see his transformation. The guy did not stand a chance against Ash’s drive and determination! 🤭 She’s opened him up emotionally and gave him something else to focus his time on other than the Constantine empire and who to destroy next.

The only reason why I didn’t give it full ratings is whilst it was a great ending to their story, the book itself felt a little rushed towards the end. There were a few roadblocks that Ash and Winston were trying to get through in the previous books that continued onto this one, yet they were all resolved relatively quickly in what seemed like in one fell swoop. You’re still trying to wrap your head around everything and next thing you know it’s already reached the end. It just seemed like a swift conclusion to all their problems before you get to the swoon-worthy happily ever after.

But in saying that, The Glass Slipper is my favourite from all three books. Overall, it was an absolute treat to read this trilogy. It’s definitely a different take on the classic tale of Cinderella, and it stands out from all other fairy tale retellings I’ve read in the past due to Webster’s distinctly twisted style of storytelling. Who would have thought Cinderella in this version is a maid highly paid to participate in indecent sexual acts that’s considered degrading, cruel, and oh-so taboo with the much older, uber rich, and unbelievably powerful “Prince Charming”?! It’s a total adult-rated fairy tale story!

  • Age Gap Romance
  • Billionaire Romance
  • Contemporary
  • Light BDSM
  • Opposites Attract

PrettyWoman_RescuesHim

This story has a nice balance of light and shade. Whilst Ash’s and Winston’s story was cast in gloominess the majority of the time, there were still plenty of playful and upbeat moments weaved throughout from keeping it going too dark. Putting aside their quirky relationship, there’s also plenty of secondary characters that assisted in making this book more than a simple love story between two people from opposite worlds.

There’s no slowing down the drama, the copious amounts of devious characters, and dirty dealings going on in their world. I liked how easily the atmosphere changed depending on whichever character was presently in the forefront—whether it was a member of the Constantine family, or Ash’s family, or even those who worked for Winston, you can automatically sense the change in air… which I truly think has a lot to do with the fact that Webster created such lavish world-building that constantly keeps you intrigued.

This is only one story set in the world of the Midnight Dynasty. But I can only hope certain characters (those who don’t already have their own series) who’ve made appearances in this trilogy will eventually get their own book too… *cough* Perry *cough* 😜😉 (More details on the Midnight Dynasty below!)

And I have to say if you’ve read the other books in the Midnight Dynasty then you might agree with me that a certain Constantine has been shown in a slightly different light in these books. I actually liked the fact that in this particular case, this Constantine was shown to have a softer, more human side because they certainly were portrayed to be more ruthless in the other ones.

After reading the first two books, you’ll see how far Ash and Winston have come since their first encounter. It started out initially as a business transaction that turned into so much more. They are wrapped up in each other, and seeing how their story concludes was so satisfying. Team Constantine! ✊ These books introduced me to Webster and I’m looking forward to reading more of her work.

What can you expect from this book? Hot and heavy bedroom romps, declaration of love, suspense, plot twists, and ever-constant banter! A must read for dark romance readers and fans of dark fairy tales.

The Danger You Know by Lily White

DangerYouKnow_Cover

— BLURB —

You’ll judge me.
Hate me and tell me I’m wrong.
Refuse to see how my darkness is what she needs.

While I don’t particularly care about your feelings in the matter, and while I pursue her despite the wedding bells that rang for another, only I can see how she is drowning beneath mediocrity.

How many times must I remind her?
It can’t matter that I am the person who ruined her life.

The man who killed her father.
The constant shadow that watches her sleep.
The lover who prefers dirty alleyways to freshly laundered sheets

She’s mine. Always has been.
I’m the worst thing for her, yet I’m the only salvation she knows.

He had his chance to make her happy.
He failed.
He didn’t see how she was dying inside because he couldn’t know her.
Not like I know her.

I am her stalker.
Her protector.
And the only man that can bring her back to life.

— MY REVIEW —

I was not expecting that! Wtf!?! What had I signed up for? Just.. ugh.. fuuuuck!

Bloody good stuff! 👏 BLOODY. 👏 GOOD. 👏 STUFF!

PeterKavinsky_Whoa

I’ve never read anything quite like it. It’s a unique, masterfully written romance that’s so deeply twisty that you never see what’s coming until it smacks you in the face. It’s downright sinful but oh so enthralling!

It’s only been a couple days since I finished it and I’m still trying to wrap my brain around what I had just read. I’m consistently reading romance books these days, and a lot of it’s some dark stuff but I don’t think I’ve come across a stalker romance (until now that is) — and lucky me my first one happened to be… *singsong voice* faaaaaabulous! 😊😍

Lily White was a new-to-me author but damn… if all her books had the same high quality world-building, character development and story line that holds up from start to finish like this one, then I can’t wait to read more of her work!

White set the tone and atmosphere right off the bat with an eerie, mysterious introduction of her main protagonists. Written in first person dual POVs, and told as if the character is conversing with the reader rather than just telling their story to be read afterwards — which made it all the more engaging, in my opinion.

The character growth and development was impressive to say the least. They were well executed — I can’t fault the way these characters have evolved over the span of the book. I should mention that Ari and Adeline’s story spans throughout several years. Starting from when Adeline was a teenager all the way to her twenties (around ten.. or almost ten years), and throughout that time you see how much Ari’s stalker tendencies (and I’m putting that mildly) have dramatically increased, whilst Adeline’s young, carefree adolescents slowly takes a back seat to adulthood.

Adeline is a unique character with an equally unique life that you get to discover in this book. It’s crazy, it’s hectic, and not at all how I imagined it could be like when I first discovered what makes her different.

You’ll see complications and consequences with each decision made (or should I say, not made?) by these characters. The what-ifs and secrets. Honestly, it’s like down the rabbit hole, you go!

“She doesn’t need a hero to swoop in and save her, she needs a villain who drags out the hero she has within herself.”

Buffy_BiteMe

I thought I was perfectly content with having just Ari and Adeline be the entire focus, but White adding a secondary character — and a friend, no less into the mix heightened my excitement for this story to unravel and added another side to Ari and Adeline’s behaviors that we probably would not have seen if it wasn’t for this character bringing it out in them. I won’t spoil it for you guys by mentioning their name, but I just want to put it out there that they were probably my fave character from the entire book! 😜 Not only were they a solid addition, a voice of reason, but they were also the comedic relief I didn’t know this book needed. The chemistry this friend has with Ari is too adorable and entertaining for words. I end up grinning at the thought of their interactions. I almost wished this book wasn’t a standalone just in the hopes of seeing this particular side character have their own book, but even though that’s wishful thinking, their appearance in this one was nevertheless satisfying.

I love a gritty, grey character who has trouble written all over them, but what makes these guys stand out just a smidge more from the crowd is their intelligence behind the darkness. These characters are smart, and calculating, and seem to always be two steps ahead of everyone else despite the anxiousness you feel when reading what they’re about to do next (and wondering if it’ll all turn to shit). Eeep.

As I said earlier, you don’t see what’s coming in this story until it’s right there in front of you. I can usually predict some things ahead of time when reading, but this one had me stumped. I was sure things were heading a particular direction just for me to be taken aback by it going a completely different route.

Plot twists! Plot twists! Plot twists!

“I have no plans to let her go. I’m not the hero in our story. Never have been. And you need to remember that.”

Damon_CantLiveWithoutHer

Although a lot of things happen in the story, it was never overwhelmingly too much. It was a very well thought-out plot, with great pacing — and White ensuring things connected, had reason behind it, and wrapped up when needed. I always get a little weary with standalones because I almost always reach the end of the book with questions still left unanswered — that, or new ones pop up. But not in this case. Woohoo! Trust me, this one will leave you in happy contentment! 😊

But I should warn you that this book is graphic, and may trigger some readers with its content. There’s violence, abuse, drug use, and profanity. There are scenes in this that can be quite in your face horrific, not to mention some questionable actions taken. It’s definitely not for readers underage. Please be aware.

If you do take the plunge and read The Danger You Know (and I highly recommend you do) — you will be taken on such a roller coaster ride of epic emotional proportions. There is so much angst, drama, and heartbreak in it. So much push-and-pull, and hate-to-love.. and back to hate again that you’ll be second guessing your character loyalties at some point. Such an enjoyable read. It’ll keep you on your toes! 😉

“Even the ugliest of stories can be beautiful, and ours has been fucked from the beginning.”

— MY REVIEW —

To be honest I thought it was just alright.

Emma_Shrugs

I loved Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door but this one was a little lackluster for me. Even I couldn’t believe how I was reacting to this story whilst reading it.

It started off great – thought it was going to be just like the previous two in the series but by the time I got to the middle of the book I was getting a bit annoyed by Isla and Josh and their whole situation that was going on. I don’t know what it is really. Maybe it’s the fact that sometimes I thought Josh wasn’t serious about Isla or maybe it’s the way Isla changed when she started dating Josh that I didn’t really like..? I can’t pinpoint it to just one thing that made me not like the storyline as much.

But I am glad the pace picked back up in the last 10 chapters! *phew!* I love the part where Josh and Isla were both back in America, trying to keep in contact. They’re determined. I’ll give them that! Lol. The part with Josh’s manuscript was really touching (the second time round at least… the first time I was thinking the exact same thing as Isla. Like what the!??)

EmmaSwan_ComeOn

Some of the content in the book is definitely for mature minded readers because there’s a lot of kissing and non-stop touching and sex. (To the point where I just wanted to skip past it coz there’s points in the book where Josh and Isla can’t keep their hands off each other and it goes on for a while that you get sick of reading it).

The beginning and end were the definite highlights of the book for me. It doesn’t have as much humour as the previous books which may be another reason as to why I favoured this one the least. It wasn’t as light-hearted as the others. I think it needed some humour in a few parts to lift the mood up. Surprisingly I did get teary during their breakup (the feels were on high reading this part. I was bawling my eyes out – I just felt sorry for them both).

If this book wasn’t in a series and just a standalone book… then yeah I would say it was a great read but the problem is I can’t stop comparing it to the others, which is a pity coz loving the first two made this final one seem like I hated it. Which I don’t. It’s still pretty nice! 😊

Dean_ThumbsUp

I still recommend this book to YA readers who like Contemporary/ Romance books. And I highly recommend the series in general!
