A nanny is what I am.I’m a good one, too. When I’m hired by a biker and his rich woman, I can’t say no.I can’t afford to say no.I’ve never worked for a biker before, and I certainly haven’t worked for one who is this damned moody and did I mention oh, so gorgeous?Still, here I am.I need the money.I need to escape my past.I need something, anything, to make the demons go away. What I didn’t sign up for was the rich bitch he decided to reproduce with. Not only does she hate me, but she’s from the most wealthy family in town.My days are now filled with country clubs, galas and dressing a baby in clothes I could never afford in my lifetime.Did I mention the other nannies? The stuck up ones? The ones who hate me?Yeah, there’s them.Lucky for me, I have him.A connection that’s undeniable.Only, he’s everything I shouldn’t want.A biker? Bad news.I’m their nanny, even worse.Yet, their relationship is toxic.A one night stand gone wrong. An attempt to make things right for a baby he didn’t know he even wanted.I’m not in the position to be in the middle of that…Yet, there’s something there…Something between us that’s undeniable. This isn’t going to end well…

A bittersweet ending to the Turf Wars series. I’ve enjoyed them all, as each one has been such entertaining reads. Clash of the Nannies is a secret/ nanny romance with a bit of a love triangle twist.

What made this book for me was Hugh. Aw swoon! 😍😍 He is probably the sweetest biker/ hero from the entire series, hands down! As the story progresses, you steadily see Hugh’s character growth from a biker with no commitments to becoming a responsible adult needing to take care of another human being.

Supernatural_Dean_HoldingBaby

Maggie is not your conventional nanny. She’s an opinionated heroine and she will put her two cents in for any situation. What made Maggie relatable to me is she’s a heroine of Asian descent—and to be more specific, one of a Filipino background. She represented some cultural diversity not just within this story but within the Turf Wars world, albeit she’s only partly Asian and her mixed heritage doesn’t play a huge part in her character, but it’s still a rarity (at least for me) to find a Filipino character in any of my reads, especially one who plays a main character.

The storyline also broaches on serious subject matters such as social standing, prejudices, and bullying. The experiences Maggie is confronted with are relatable, real-life situations, and although these topics are sensitive, especially for those who can relate, Jewel has written-in determined characters and has tried to keep the overall atmosphere as lighthearted to ensure it doesn’t become too dramatic or deflating.

Overall, another amusing rom-com with minimal MC elements in the background. Just like the previous books in the series, it was told solely from the heroine’s perspective. It’s a relatively short read with fast-paced storytelling, and because of that reason the conclusion ended quite abruptly with relatively quick resolutions (considering it’s the final book in the series). There are plot points that were left unanswered, and unexpected new ones introduced last minute that left me feeling a little taken aback. It was a lot to process in a short amount of time. 😱

I’m not a big fan of the ending, in general. Whilst bonds and friendships were constantly developing and expanding with each new book in the series, with this book it culminated with strong “end of an era” vibes that had me a little taken aback. As I mentioned earlier, it really is bittersweet.

However, putting the ending aside along with the quick resolutions, I did enjoy the growing friends-to-lovers relationship between Hugh and Maggie. It’s a nice change of pace from the enemies-to-lovers/ hate-to-love storylines from the previous books. It centres around Maggie’s day-to-day duties as a nanny in a high society environment. It has great balance of romance, family, and friendship within the storyline that I thought were real winning elements.

I recommend the entire series. Although it’s MC-lite, I honestly didn’t mind that the club was the background as it gave way to each of the hero’s personal life almost outside of it. You still get hot bikers without the dark MC elements. It’s a great series for readers who want to slowly transition into MC romance reads without having delve into the grittiness just yet.

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐¾

I’m no angel.

Far from it.

I’m the disappointment of the family.

The one they try to hide.

The failure.

The nuisance.

I have the rich family – you know the one. Parents dripping in gold, the perfect sister, and the loyal brother.

As far as they’re concerned, I’m the accident they wish they had done something about.

A rebel.

Always causing trouble.

That’s fine by me, I’m happy to be anything other than what they expect.

Until, that is, my father needs my help.

Well, okay, I practically force his hand, but it’s my chance to prove I’m good for something.

He needs information on a local biker club.

He wants me to go in. To play them. To get what he needs.

A club full of hot bikers? A girl isn’t going to say no.

I take on the challenge.

Go in there and destroy their little club.

Sounds like a god damned blast to me.

They won’t know what hit them.

Or perhaps, I won’t know what hit me…

I guess we’ll find out.

Ding. Ding. Ding. We have a fucking winner! 👏👏👏 This series seriously gets better and better with each new book! Tartlet is officially my new favourite (sorry Pop! Goes The Biker). I have been anticipating Remy’s story since day dot and Bella delivered the goods! This story did not disappoint. I was hooked from the very first page and could not put it down once I started! Not only did Remy lived up to his hot, charming biker ass but the storyline was on point too!

MeganFox_TransformersFixingBumblebee

This is a hidden agenda, friends-with-benefits romance that totally had me entertained and constantly giggling to myself. The introduction of Gabby and her cool, blasé attitude had me immediately perking up with interest of her character. She treads a fine line between smugness and confidence but she knows her strengths and weaknesses and adamant about her likes and dislikes that I found her to be such a refreshing addition to the ever-growing cast of characters in this series. I also love the fact that she’s a badass mechanic who gives the boys a run for their money!

In previous books Remy was constantly one of my favourite side characters, with his sweet, chilled demeanor that I admit I was a tad nervous coming into this story knowing I may or may not like who he ended up with. I should’ve put more faith in Bella because not only has she exceeded my expectations for the heroine who’d land Remy but the storyline itself was gripping.

It’s an MC-lite romantic comedy that had a bit of suspense, a whole ton of witty banter, sexual chemistry, and I’m talking lots of dirty deeds. *waggles eyebrows* 🔥🙈

It’s told from Gabby’s first person, singular point of view. Whilst I’d normally prefer dual perspectives and would’ve loved to have had Remy’s POV too, I discovered fairly early on that Gabby’s view was more than enough to tell their story without it feeling completely one-sided.

I thought the storytelling had a nice flow to it. It was well-paced, well-written, detailed, and full of dimension. The addition of the secondary characters from previous and upcoming books added extra oomph, expanded the world-building, and provided a genuine and relatable group dynamic alongside the romance.

The friendships in this particular book were all awesome that I truly hope that this isn’t the last we’ll see of them. Each bond was unique that you really get a sense of depth in each relationship.

There were a few unexpected plot twists I totally did not have an inkling of, so that was an interesting little surprise. Remy’s and Gabby’s story is romance heavy but it wasn’t just pure lust and hookups, as the story progresses and the plot complicatedly thickens, you see a gradual more meaningful development in their relationship.

I found Gabby’s personal story relatable and she touches on certain family struggles that I think a lot of people (me included) can relate to. From all the heroines in this series so far, she’s been the one I connected with the most, not only because of her personality, but also because of her outlook when it came to certain things.

Other than the group dynamic, Remy and Gabby compliment each other so well that by the end it was ultimately what made them my favourite couple. They just click so well that their romance is the stuff of good rom-com movies!

If you’re looking for a quick, lighthearted mood-booster of a romance, you have got to hit this one up. You can technically read this one without having read the previous books in the series but I wouldn’t recommend it. There’s an underlying storyline that continues in each book, and plus you’d have a better understanding of the backstories of each couple if you read them in order. Good news is, they’re all relatively quick reads that you can easily finish in one sitting.

There were a couple of things that were left somewhat unsettled but in all honesty I didn’t even notice until after I finished reading and let it sunk in. It’s nothing major and unless Bella comes back to it in future books, it’s left up in the air. Nevertheless, the story was hot. It was steamy. It was hilarious to boot! There is some darkish content within and although the book cover is somewhat explicit, it’s still for the most part a contemporary rom-com story. As I mentioned earlier, it’s light on the MC element — so if you’re thinking of dipping your toes in MC romance, I think this is a great series to start off with as it’s nowhere near as dark as far as MC romances go, yet you still get a sense of the brotherhood, their MC lifestyle, and how these bikers love their women.

Bella Jewel’s writing is always so effortless to follow. You get easily attracted to her storylines and invested in her characters. I loved reading Tartlet, the protagonists are truly lovable characters that’ll make you smile with their crazy antics. I’ll no doubt be rereading it in the near future until the next book in the series comes out!

Ramona knows pain and she wears it behind a perfectly made-up mask of laughter, sass and a personality that makes most men weak at the knees.

Emphasis on most men.

Because there happens to be one man her charm doesn’t work on…Adan.

Member of the gorgeous biker club who took over the garage next to her best friend Eve’s café. Oh, and there’s one more tiny little thing…he’s now her patient.

After suffering burns in a fire, Adan lost the ability to use not one, but both of his hands. Enter Ramona. Registered nurse on her first job since completing her degree. And of course she’s put with the gorgeous, grumpy, rough biker who wants nothing more than for her to leave him the hell alone.

But, alas, she simply cannot.

Stuck together, there is nothing Ramona can do…except her job.

The problem is Adan is making her job very difficult. Not only does he live like he’s running a brothel, but the man refuses to do anything she asks him. He’s irritated and barely speaks, and when he does speak, it’s usually to insult her.

Not going down without a fight, Ramona does everything she can to keep her spirits high, including tormenting the poor man at every chance she gets. She’ll get him to laugh before her time with him is over.

Adan will like her.

And she will complete this job with a glowing review.

Not matter the cost.
No matter the game.

He’ll get a Heart-On for her…and she’ll make damned sure of it.

• MY REVIEW •

Ooo Wee! This was a such an improvement from the first book! So, so much more gripping and hits you in the feels! 😍 I can’t help but think Bella has gone through the reviews for Biker Schmiker and made some tweaks to ensure Heart-On would be better perceived. And boy, just like that, she has made this series loads more exciting now!

OohLala

The lightheartedness is still very much present. The contemporary romance aspect is still more prominent than the MC element but it’s still a swoon-worthy MC romance story! Just like in the previous book, this one had plenty of entertaining banter between the protagonists. You get a snippet of their chemistry in Biker Schmiker but by the start of this book, that chemistry has turned electric due to Ramona’s and Adan’s forced proximity.

First off — the premise was intriguing as hell. After Adan gets caught up in a freak accident involving arson resulting in his hands being badly burnt and now in need of constant medical care, in comes Ramona, a newly licensed nurse, and her first job? Yep, being Adan’s personal home care nurse! *mic drop*

The heated exchange from these two were on a level a smidge more entertaining to see than Eve and Riggs (not going lie). They butt heads, are constantly challenging one another and throughout it all they battle the sexual tension between them.

Similarly to Riggs in Biker Schmiker, Adan is a bit of womanizer. He’s not a complete manwhore but he’s definitely indecisive when it comes to who he wants. There’s a bit of love triangle going on here. Some angst. Some drama. And, most certainly some racy scenes!

Please note: It contains violence and sexual content suitable for readers 18+ only!

This book also contains cheating. If you have issues with this matter in your romance stories, then you might want to give this one a miss.

Whilst I enjoyed Ramona’s and Adan’s story a lot, there were some questionable decisions made and situations that had my eyebrows raising and my jaw dropping with disbelief. But don’t get me wrong, it’s all to do with the fact that I got so invested in their story. It was a rollercoaster ride that had me on the edge of my seat eager to see what would happen next because I can tell ya… bomb after bomb just kept on dropping! 😱

Another relatively quick read. I wished it was longer, but on the other hand I like the fact the Bella is consistent in keeping each book in this series a certain length. They’re short but action-packed, full of suspense, and the romantic elements will have you hooked. There’s also a secondary story or two happening simultaneously that adds dimension to Ramona’s and Adan’s story and enhances the world-building.

The rest of the MC members are back to add more fun to this already light, romcom-ish story, and you get to see appearances from Eve and Riggs from the first book too! This may only be the second book in the series but I already adore the friendships and the extra oomph they bring into each story.

I love that with each new couple we get to know a bit about more about their backstory and see their character growth further. Ramona is an in-your-face, independent, and fiery heroine. She’s loud, proud, and confident. Adan is man who’s not only a badass biker, but who knows his strengths. He’s cocky and arrogant at times but in a easy-going funny way that makes you giggle. His inability to read women—or should I say Ramona was a hilarious bonus to see!

They have a quirky hate/love relationship going on there, but somewhat of a caring friendship has formed too where they got to know each other on a deeper level. I thought their emotions were relatable and realistic, and the frustration and second-guessing from Ramona was totally spot-on for the situation she found herself in with Adan.

Ugh. Such a fun read that I will undoubtedly reread over an over whenever I’m in need of a mood-booster! I highly recommend this book, and whilst it can be read as a standalone I would still recommend you start with the first one as the characters are linked and some of the context included do lead up to the next story in the series. You’ll also have a better understanding of how the characters interconnect and the level of their relationships.

If you enjoy hate-to-love romances that have an element of game-playing between the protagonists, then give this one try. The MC element is there but it’s more contemporary romance. It’s well paced, and like the first book, told solely from the heroine’s point of view. Whilst I would’ve liked to have Adan’s as well, in comparison to the first book, the hero’s POV wasn’t as strongly needed in this one. It’s character driven as the majority of the story revolves around Ramona’s feelings and perspective.

It had so many elements I so truly hoped to find in my romance books:

  • Hate-to-love/ Enemies-to-lovers
  • Romantic Comedy
  • MC Romance
  • Suspense
  • Interesting world-building
  • Gripping storyline
  • Lovable characters

The world-building has expanded a smidge more by introducing Ramona into these bikers world. And with Ramona and Eve already being friends, a nice little girl club has formed as a strong counterpart to the club. Overall, it left me wanting more and excited to read the next book with the next swoon-worthy couple to be! Another amazing read from Bella Jewel!

• MY REVIEW •

Ooh. Okay. I think this might be the first MC romance book of Bella Jewel’s that I’ve read where it was definitely a lot more lighthearted, less MC and more contemporary romance.

HowToLose_DramaDramaDrama

When I first discovered Bella Jewel’s books, she quickly became an auto-buy author for me. Her dark MC romances have been some of my all time favourite reads. I’ve read enough to know what I can expect from her stories…

So it came as a bit of shock that this particular new MC series was a lot more lighthearted, more comic relief added, and certainly felt more contemporary in theme. The MC elements were evident but it wasn’t the complete focus. Biker Schmiker is character driven with 100% full of fiery banter between the hero and heroine.

I admit I have mixed feelings about this story and there was some getting used to in comparison to Bella’s other books. I felt like it was a little choppy— it alternated between a serious situation to lightheartedness, and then back again all throughout that it felt like a stop-start journey. Whilst the banter was entertaining and at times raunchy, the storyline was a little confusing and a bit much. So many plot points were in this one that it felt like one thing after another popped up for Eve and Riggs to deal with.

The story had amazing potential, especially with how Riggs and his club were first introduced into the small town Eve resides in. The chemistry between Eve and Riggs was zingy and kept me invested in seeing where the story would head to next (coz for the love of the book gods it was fucking unpredictable)! 😅

What confused me about this story was some of the crazy plotlines that seemed a little unbelievable. Not to mention some of the characters’ reactions were somewhat far-fetched (specifically the protagonists) in regards to said situations. It fringed on over-the-top madness. But I got to hand it to Bella for giving “crazy” a good crack! 😜

It was well-paced storytelling, action-packed, and full of dramatics. It’s told solely from Eve’s POV, but I really would’ve liked to have seen Riggs’ perspective as well, just so we can get an in-depth insight to his feelings too— especially considering he did some pretty shady things that I was surprised Eve would want anything more to do with him. But in saying that, there’s a good amount of character and relationship development that I grew to like Eve and Riggs more and more as I progressed through their story.

Both the leads are down to earth, relatable characters. Putting aside their cruel plotting to destroy one another, it’s clear they are caring, decent people. The overall atmosphere is modern and lighthearted. If you enjoy heated enemies-to-lovers/ hate-to-love romance stories with MC elements, then give this one a go. There’s plenty of game-playing that’ll have you turning those pages whilst grinning!

But I must point out that Riggs and Eve’s relationship was a bit of rollercoaster with tons of push and pull. For a good chunk of the story, their relationship was on-again-off-again unsteady, in which Riggs hooks up with other women. This type of trope is not a hard-no for me personally but I know it can be a bit of a no-no for other readers when it comes to their romance reads, and it’s why I included this bit of spoiler as a warning for those considering to read this book.

Please also note that it contains sensitive subject matters that may be triggering for some readers. It contains violence, assault, and strong sexual content. Readers 18+ only.

In my honest opinion, it’s a rocky start to a new series but it did hold my attention. Besides the constant sexual frustration coming off of Eve and Riggs that was all-out giddy to witness, the secondary characters were equally entertaining additions in keeping the story and their world appealing.

The friendships felt genuine and downright fun to see. There was plenty of comic relief within, but the banter, jokes, and little chats amongst the friends were some of the highlights.

The overall execution fell a little short for me, but it had a budding world-building and enough likable elements that by the end of the book I was looking forward to reading the next one. It’s a relatively short but sweet read. Bella’s effortless writing style and talent for creating quirky and engaging characters was delivered in this one no matter how complicated the storyline was.

As I mentioned earlier, tons of potential. I’m looking forward to seeing where Bella takes this series and how she plans to expand their world. An overall lively and playful MC-lite romance story between two fierce, strong-willed people!

RATING: ⭐⭐⭐

I’m good at hiding my feelings.

Having to pretend I’m not in love with my best friend?

Pfft. That’s child’s play.

Here’s how I do it: I avert my eyes when he walks out of his room, shirtless in all his toned glory. I squash the butterflies that fill my stomach every time he slowly unfurls a dimpled smile. And, most importantly, I keep an arsenal of “personal massagers” in my bedside drawer. Wink.

Not to brag, but Aiden Smith isn’t hard to resist if you’ve been doing it for as long as I have. In fact, we might have continued as best friends forever if not for the fact that I needed him to play the part of my fake boyfriend.

Date me like you mean it, I told him. Nudge nudge. C’mon, just go along with a little lie, help a girl out, and then we can all return to life as we know it.

Except he veered from the plan.

He crossed the line.

Flirting with me when no one else was around? Pinning me down and kissing me like that? Okay, how exactly is taking off my bra part of the ruse, Aiden?!

I’d ask him about it if I could, but well…things got ugly and we’re not best friends anymore.

In fact, we’re the exact opposite.

Now, I have to play nice even though I want to crush his heart in the palm of my hand.

Pretending not to love Aiden was the easy part.

Pretending not to hate him?

Well…I might need a little more practice.

— MY REVIEW —

Ahhhh. Grey has done it again! DMLYMI was deviously good! I obsess over a good secret crush, but what’s even better? A secret crush turn enemies to lovers. *evil laugh* muahaha! 🤭

Just the book I needed to escape the reality of adulting for a little while. Lol.

Grey has the inate ability to get you invested with the ever-so Grey trademark characters who seem to talk (and think) a mile a minute — those who’ve read her other books know what I’m talking about! Her characters are instantly lovable with their humorous ramblings and random thoughts that it’s hard not to get invested in their story right off the bat.

GG_NateSerena_PlayfulPunch

DMLYMI has now been included in my list of fave books of Grey’s right along with The Allure of Dean Harper and Arrogant Devil. All of which had a similiar hate to love romance. What can I say? When it comes to this tried and true trope, Grey writes some of the best!

But question… this was supposed to be a romantic comedy, right? I read that correctly, yes? So why the hell did I blubber and get teary-eyed so many damn times throughout reading this book!!? 😢😅

I loved the concept of a secret crush in this storyline because it’s almost all from Maddie’s POV for at least the first half. As a reader, you get on this ride of unrequited love with her, the hopeless dream of having your best friend mirror back your feelings. I think that’s why I got so emotional reading this book. The further it developed, the more I felt for Maddie. You can’t help but sympathize with what she’s going through. I’m not going to lie — I was crushed by some of the scenes. If you cry just as easily as I do, make sure to have tissues nearby. You’re bound to get into a snotfest!

GG_Serena_FakeSmiles

It’s full of heart. There’s a sweet balance of friendship and love, good ol’ banter and game playing to keep things lively. It’s what will keep you anxious to see how things will play out between Maddie and Aiden. There’s no doubt they have zingy chemistry. You can feel the years of their bond leap off the pages.

Full of what-ifs, secrets, missed chances, and unexpected opportunities. Both Maddie and Aiden are forced to navigate through all the events in their lives and the consequences of their choices. Their journey is one of growth, pure determination and acceptance that things may not work out the way they hope or expect it to. At times it’s a bittersweet pill to swallow.

It’s a fictional story of a couple struggling to find a balance in their lives that can very well mirror any relationship real life.

GG_NateSerena_KissToForehead

What I love about Grey’s books (and this one was no different) is that her characters are fairly relatable. The relationships and life experiences are some that many of us can relate to. Whilst I adore Maddie and her usual happy-go-lucky personality, I had hoped she had more backbone where Aiden was concerned, and that she followed through and executed her plans because I can’t help but think that would’ve been a real kicker!

Aiden doesn’t have as much of the spotlight that Maddie initially has when it comes to their perspective of things but it doesn’t mean he didn’t make an impact. Putting aside the good looks Grey has bestowed upon him, he’s charming, sweet as hell and is just a pure care bear at heart! I couldn’t really fault the guy. Yeah, I might have smacked my forehead and shook my head mumbling “no, no, no…” at a couple of things he does but it no way means he’s crossed off the book boyfriend list! Not happening!

I may not always agree with these characters’ actions but I can see how others may, or even be doing the same thing if they were ever in the same situation. Either way Grey always manages to put realism into her characters and their world, which I’ve always liked about her writing.

If you’re a fan of friends to lovers, hate to love, and secret crush romance storylines, then this will certainly be a treat for you folks! I enjoyed it immensely and there are parts of this book I’ve already reread multiple times over because they’re still reeling in my mind.

The steamy scenes are indeed hot, yet tasteful, and just enough to keep you swooning over their relationship. I’ll leave it at that. 😉

GG_NateSerena_Grabby

Overall, a well-paced storytelling, developing easily enough in the first half of the book. Although in my opinion, it did pick up speed in the second half making it feel little rushed but not to a point where it’s off-putting. The ending is still as sweet as when the story started. It has a beautiful wrap up that’ll have you sighing in happy contentment. Nothing was left unanswered (at least from my point of view).

Another not-to-be missed standalone romance from Grey! An amazing journey of love, friendship and sacrifice. It’s mostly lighthearted with moments of fluttering-butterfly-induced nerves. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. You’ll cruelly enjoy the banter, but secretly hope things will work out between Maddie and Aiden.

GG_NateSerena_BackHug

Highly recommend for fellow romance readers to add this one to their TBR, asap!

CANDACE: KAT & YASMINE! DO NOT DALLY! Come straight home after work. Kat, don’t take the long route from the subway station just so you can pass by Cute Hot Dog Guy. This is important!

I’ve had THE BEST DAY. You won’t believe it. There I was in my preschool classroom, washing a bit of poo out of some soggy trousers, when this absolute babe came to collect his nephew from my class.

Truthfully, I thought I’d blacked out for a moment when I first saw him. He was a proper hunk with glorious brown hair, quite tall, and he had these arms. Are muscly arms supposed to turn me on? I’m panting just thinking about them.

Anyway, he told me he’s a professional foosball player. At least, I think that’s what he said. The tots can get quite loud near pick-up time.

YASMINE: Foosball? What are you on about? Have you gone mad?

KAT: Oh sod off. So what if I like to have a good look at Hot Dog Guy’s arse on my trek home after a hard day’s work? It’s called self-care.

CANDACE: Kat, you’re hopeless. Yasmine, yes—foosball! I suppose it’s a big thing over here in the States? We must investigate and learn everything we can.

By the way, he’s called Logan.

Logan + Candace. I think that sounds quite nice! I can hear the wedding bells now. Dum romdum da-dum.

YASMINE: Oh good grief. I suppose we can do some snooping when I get home. I’ll grab wine on my way.

KAT: I’ll grab hot dogs.

THE TROUBLE WITH QUARTERBACKS is a hilarious romance about unlikely love found between a British preschool teacher and the professional quarterback who sweeps her off her feet.

Huh. Who would’ve thunk it? Foosball. Foosball players. Hot stuff…?!

Covenant_Foosball

Oh, no wait…

Scratch Foosball.

I meant football. Yes! Football players. Hot stuff…?! Um… yeah!

Smallville_Clark_Football

If you’re looking for your next sports romance book that centers around two lead characters who are complete opposites, yet manage to get along so well that it’s almost sickeningly cute, then here it is, people. The Trouble With Quarterbacks is a fun, lighthearted standalone romance about the hot new, star quarterback and the young woman who’s got him all smitten that he’ll do just about anything to keep her from the trouble that slowly but surely follows a famous athlete.

To some this may be considered a fluff read. Something to read in between their more “serious” thought-provoking books. To others, this is their staple read that they cannot get enough of. Simple escapism from the day-to-day grind by reading something peppy and upbeat that has their moods boosting. Either way, it can’t be denied that Grey has got the romantic reads down pat.

She has a way of getting you engaged in the characters’ lives long before the romance kicks in. Her characters, one way or another have something relatable about them. Whether it’s their personality, the lives they live, or their thought process that’s eerily similar to yours, you’ll find yourself connecting with them on some level.

Add the meet-cute these protagonists experience that’ll no doubt have you ooh-ing and aah-ing, and bada-bing, bada-boom! — you have yourself a treat! 😊

Covenant_CalebSarahMeet

If you’ve read any of Grey’s previous books prior to this new release, then you know what you can expect from her books.

You usually have the quirky heroine — who usually is the one the babbles on and on, and tends to have the embarrassingly, slap-your-forehead type moments that’ll have you laughing despite the fact you probably shouldn’t. That would be Candace, in this case.

Then there’s the hero, (aka Logan) — who’s the hunky, male specimen with the Colgate commercial-worthy smile, and Adonis inspired body that has our adorable, chatterbox of a heroine swept off her feet.

Okay. I’m just gonna admit something I probably shouldn’t in an ARC review. But I cannot not be honest with you guys. Candace was a character that had me liking her bubbly, offbeat personality easily, and bonus points for her being a fellow shorty (yay for short people!) 👍 She’s relatable to the everyday, working class people, hustling to make ends meet, and the girl has no filter when it comes to the random things that pop into her head (especially when she’s with her friends). I could even almost forgive her British slang going in and out throughout the book too 😜 But the more she became comfortable in her growing relationship with Logan, the more she became too forward. She lost a bit of her respect (from me as a reader) the more she started throwing herself at him. It was cringe-y at times to say the least, which in my mind lost her appeal of being the cool, down to earth girl that I initially liked about her.

Logan was definitely the selling point in my opinion (besides the cute romance story line). He was a consistent swoon-worthy bugger. I loved everything about him. He’s the perfect mixture of gentleman and typical charming male when chicks are involved. But I adored his personality the most, and the fact that he knew what he wanted. I felt kind of bad for the way Candace treated him at times (not gonna lie — at times I was hissing at the book saying to no one in particular that he deserves better). He may be the new hot and happening quarterback of a winning NFL team but he has managed to stay grounded. He’s sensitive towards Candace’s feelings. He’s thoughtful, and best of all, if he was in the wrong, he has no shame in admitting it and apologizing! Who wouldn’t want an easygoing guy like that, I ask ya? If it wasn’t for his crazy, hectic, lime-lighted lifestyle, he would be one of the most simple, drama-free fictional book boyfriends I’ve ever come across.

Smallville_Clark_FootballCelebration

I enjoyed reading this adorable story, but it did fall a little flat for me halfway through. Once their relationship started to develop further, it almost felt like there was no more build-up. There were a few things that I would’ve loved to have seen with Logan like his family dynamics for one, that unfortunately was never a focal point in the story.

Whilst there were some very amusing secondary characters included in the form of both Candace’s roommates and Logan’s teammates, I wasn’t completely lusting after them or their side stories happening in the background. I thought Candace and her roommates were a hoot and a half at the beginning but slowly started becoming too much to bear.. *nervous laughter* … 😬🙄

Honestly, if you can ignore the crazies in the background and concentrate on Logan and Candace’s relationship and seeing how things will unfold for the two, then it’ll be a much more effortless read. The instant chemistry between Candace and Logan is what’ll have you snuggling up in bed and not wanting to put the book down until you finish. The quirky interactions and laugh-out-loud moments these two share is a definite highlight to look out for. Especially early on when they were still in the flirtatious stage.

Covenant_RideHome

There are some really hilariously winning parts in this book that I would most certainly will never tire of reading over and over again. One involving a pool and some shredding of clothes. Mmm. 😉😉

I can’t get enough of Grey’s romantic comedies. They always have an uplifting, lighthearted way of making you get into good spirits. Even if it’s only for the duration of the read. It’ll having you smiling, giggling, even cringing at some of the embarrassing things said and done by these loopy characters Grey has so expertly created.

I know Grey has written sports romance in the past, but the was the first one I had read of hers. I found it refreshing seeing one of her heroes be someone other than a boss in a corporate job (or be in a office environment per se).

The Dare by Elle Kennedy

— BLURB —

College was supposed to be my chance to get over my ugly-duckling complex and spread my wings. Instead, I wound up in a sorority full of mean girls. I already have a hard time fitting in, so when my Kappa Chi sisters issue the challenge, I can’t say no.

The dare: seduce the hottest new hockey player in the junior class.

Conor Edwards is a regular at Greek Row parties…and in Greek Row sorority beds. He’s the one you fall for before you learn that guys like him don’t give girls like me a second glance. Except Mr. Popular throws me for a loop—rather than laughing in my face, he does me a solid by letting me take him upstairs to pretend we’re getting busy.

Even crazier, now he wants to keep pretending. Turns out Conor loves games, and he thinks it’s fun to pull the wool over my frenemies’ eyes.

But resisting his easy charm and surfer-boy hotness is darn near impossible. Though I’m realizing there’s much more to Conor’s story than his fan club can see.

And the longer this silly ruse goes on, the greater the danger of it all blowing up in my face.

— MY REVIEW —

ChrisHemsworth_Smile

Okay…

First off — I was not expecting to score an early copy of The Dare. I had a plan of rereading the first three books in Briar U before the release of this one so all the characters were fresh in my mind. But now, after having read this… my new game plan is to go back to the previous books because I am nowhere near ready to say goodbye to this amazing world that Elle has created.

If you’re unaware Briar U is a spin-off series to Elle’s original NA sports romance series; Off-Campus. If you read my reviews for those books (I’ll put the links at the bottom of this review)… I was 100% a Dean Di Laurentis fan! Solid. Like, nothing was going to sway me away from him. As far as I was concerned Dean was… King. Bae. Swoon worthy. Book BF Goals! Whatevs.

But in struts (yep…struts) Conor Fucking Edwards and practically squeezes himself into the throne right alongside Dean.

KateUpton_Fans

I love Elle’s heroes in both her sports romance series’ because whilst they’re popular and seem to have the image of well-put together people, they’re nowhere near perfection that the rest of the student body seem to think. They have their own insecurities just like anybody else. They’re not your stereotypical arrogant jocks that think they’re better than everyone else. They’re also not all about the sports either. They’re witty, intelligent (they actually take their education seriously), have manners, standards, and are truly loyal individuals.

Conor is all those things and more. You couldn’t ask for a better friend and boyfriend!

“He’d rather make people around him feel good about themselves, even when it provides no personal gain for himself.”

You’ll see a lot of insecurities in this book. Just like the previous books in the series, you get to see these characters’ backstories prior to Briar University and hockey. You’ll see what hang ups they have about themselves and their family dynamics in comparison to their relationships with their friends.

Conor has a shady past that haunts him. But despite lingering issues, he manages to keep a very easy-going, level headed attitude for the most part — which I have to say in my opinion plays a essential role in some situations of this book.

Conor and Taylor are a perfect match. They balance each other out and whenever one of them is down, the other knows just how to pick them back up. The way they support one another when they don’t have the strength or courage to do it for themselves is one of the uplifting aspects of this book. Put aside all the fun and games, and blossoming romance between these two and you’ll see the strong friendship they’ve formed (even if it started from an unusual situation).

You’ll discover with this series (along with the Off-Campus series) is that all these leading characters have different, yet quite realistic situations that they’re dealing with that’s relatable no matter your age.

Taylor struggles with a lot of personal issues that she deals with all throughout the book. It’s insecurities that a lot of people can connect with on one level or another. Body image, self-doubt, low self-esteem, and a lack of confidence in one’s self worth are serious matters, and they are all present in Taylor’s personal story. Not to mention the fact that Taylor is a young woman who’s still navigating through life at school. But she’s also caring, thoughtful, humble and just so darn adorable.

Elle is not afraid of tackling difficult subject matters in her books, and The Dare is a great example of the awareness she puts out there, by having her characters really open up about these topics — and in turn as a reader (who may or may not know much about certain issues) learns more and becomes mindful of it.

But I should warn, besides the sensitive matters that these characters face, there’s also some sexual harassment and breach of consent within that may trigger some readers. Nothing graphic, but it is present.

Elle did an amazing job of discussing these matters with care, leaving not only her characters with power and choices to do something about it (which I know is not always the case in reality), but in this particular instance it left me feeling satisfied with how things concluded.

It’s well-paced with great expansion to an already ongoing world-building, and told from dual POVs. There’s a lovely balance of light and shade within their story. It’s never too heavy that it leaves one feeling drained, but it’s not a fluffy love story either. It’s current, full of substance with deep content and obvious character growth from both Taylor and Conor as individuals and as a couple.

One thing that stood out to me was the positive support system both these leads had. Other than the swoony romance, I’ve always loved the friendships that Elle has introduced in her books. This one did not disappoint. Their friends play significant roles in their lives.

With Taylor, she has a kickass bestie who not only is a firecracker but would easily throw down for Taylor in a heartbeat. She’s also not afraid to give Taylor a wake-up call whenever needed.

With Conor, it’s his teammates/ roommates who’ve become his close friends and have his back in any situation (despite their unrelenting but hilarious banter). They were the perfectly timed comic relief.

Theirs was a rollercoaster of a relationship with a lot of push and pull, a lot of second-guessing, and doubt that will have you going through a range of emotions from frustrated and anxious to hopeful and optimistic.

“Worst case, I get a good friend out of the deal. Best case, I screw her brains out. Win-win either way.”

ChrisHemsworth_PillowThrow
😂😂 Oh Conor… *shakes head*

And whilst hockey is undeniably present in this book, it was however hockey-light in comparison to the other books in the series. There’s a good chunk of it in the first half but as Taylor and Conor’s relationship develops further, hockey eventually takes a back seat.

The friendships here is by far the strongest highlight in my opinion with the secondary characters — but mostly between Taylor and Conor themselves. Some of my fave parts were them just getting to know one another, or casually chatting about random things. It was effortless, and lighthearted, and organic — and no doubt the introduction scene where their stories kicks off is a part of the book I’ve must’ve read numerous times by now because it’s THE funniest thing I have read in a long time. I’m talking snort-laughing and tears-in-my-eyes kinda funny!

This book will leave you with a smile on your face and feeling just a little bit lighter. If this was the final book (and I’m talking about Elle never going back into this fictional world again), then I say it ended beautifully.

“Listen up, everybody! It’s time to play Dare or Dare.”

KateUpton_Shrug

If you’re game, then I highly recommend you get onto this one immediately! The message and life lessons are insightful and uplifting. And you will love Conor Edwards. He’s a beautiful human being (albeit fictional, but meh.. still beautiful nevertheless).

My Best Friend’s Brother by Alexis Winter

— BLURB —

It’s no secret I’ve always had a crush on Damon Strickland.

My best friend’s older brother and the center of every single one of my fantasies.
He’s a walking, talking temptation.
That cocky grin and those broad, athletic shoulders.
You know what they say about a man with big hands right?
Growing up, we always tormented one another.
I was the nagging, annoying little girl he hated.
And he was the man-whoring, douchebag I couldn’t seem to get over.
Now as adults he actually came through and helped me land a job at my dream company.
How the hell am I supposed to focus when all I can think about is tearing that tight suit from his tempting body!
What’s even worse?

He forgot to mention he’s my boss.

— MY REVIEW —

TVD_CarolineGiddy

This was unexpectedly such an enjoyable, funny read that I couldn’t put down. I took a chance after seeing it as a freebie on Amazon and wanted to read something quick and light in between reads, and it did not disappoint whatsoever! 🙌

If anything, it exceeded expectations. It’s a relatively shorter story than what I would consider a full length novel but it packed a punch full of world-building and backstory between the two main protagonists that sets up their present relationship.

It had a great developing story that was consistent and engaging. A lot of surprisingly LOL moments that had me giggling like a school girl and grinning like a loon!

My Best Friend’s Brother is a hate-to-love romance between two childhood neighbors/ friends. It’s about missed chances, secret crushes, and all around good-humored banter. Jazz’s secret crush on Damon was one that started from childhood, developed deeper into their teens, and going just as strong now that they’re adults.

I love a good banter, do you? These two bantered like stereotypical teenagers who easily made the other embarrassed. It was cute. It hits the feels. It was definitely nostalgic of my teen years 😅

Was there some predictability detected in the storyline? Meh yeah. But honestly, I didn’t care because Damon and Jazz’s love story was probably one of the sweeter stories I’ve read in a while. There was enough light and shade in their relationship that you wouldn’t be so quick to judge it as just another instant hookup despite the length of the book being on the shorter side.

This was an effortless read that kept me captivated. Very relatable subject — I mean who hasn’t had a crush (let alone a secret one) at least once in their lives?! The characters are realistic in their feelings, insecurities, and reactions to certain moments. I know I snort-laughed a time or two whilst reading this, nodding my head and relating.

“I’ve been in love with you since I was five years old, and you tormented me. I had to watch you march in girl after girl.”

I think if you weren’t similar to Jazz, then you knew someone who was. LOL. The person who had the biggest crush on someone. Yet no matter what you said or did, it just seemed like you were not their type.

TVD_CarolineVent

One main highlight in my opinion was whenever they re-encountered a moment in their past because it shows both their perspectives on it. It’s also evident how much they were always around each other growing up. Jazz may have been Maddie’s best friend, and  even with Damon being a few years older, it never stopped all three of them from hanging out with one another.

From first impressions, Damon seemed like the popular, good looking, confident man that Jazz has always seen him as. The guy who only seems to see her as his sister’s annoying friend and nothing more. But as time goes by that’s not necessarily the case.

Damon’s take on certain events is the most intriguing in comparison to Jazz’s, only because from her POV, she openly shared her romantic feelings for him. Whilst with Damon, he’s a little hesitant, gradually opening his feelings throughout time.

Their story is told from both POVs, and it couldn’t have been executed more brilliantly. You know that quote “There are two sides to every story”? — Their life story is a perfect example of it.

“Did I tease you? Yes! Did I pick on you a little? Damn right, I did. But I only did those things because I liked you and didn’t know what to do about it.

Anytime you’ve needed me, where have I been?

I’ve been right here, by your side. Even if you didn’t know it. Even if you didn’t want me to.”

Other than Damon and Jazz’s throwback into their childhood. Another positive I found in this book is the main secondary character, Maddie (who is Damon’s sister, and Jazz’s best friend). She’s just as likable, hilarious, and added depth to Damon and Jazz’s history as it goes back and forth from past to present. She made such an impact that I’m look forward to reading about her story in the next book of this series!

If I had to make an itty-bitty critique however, it would be that it was too short (I would’ve loved a few more chapters). There were a few things that were mentioned but it never went into any further detail. And despite that cover being all half-naked gloriousness… it didn’t really match Damon’s description. I don’t remember reading Damon having any tattoos let alone a entire chest piece… 🤔 If I was judging based on the cover, I would think that there was a bad boy in this story — FYI there so was not! Damon is a complete gentleman!

UglyTruth_Kiss

A nice, lighthearted read that would for sure take your mind off day to day stresses and adulting for at least a few hours. It’s pretty straight forward. There’s no real jaw dropping twists but still leaves you with satisfaction. And I can’t forget the great friendships in this one. Alexis Winter is also a new-to-me author, but after having read this, I’ll be sure to look into more of her work.

One Moment Please by Amy Daws

OneMomentPlease_Cover

— BLURB —

That awkward moment when an ER doctor has to inform you that you’re pregnant… with his baby.

Three things Lynsey Jones knows about the hot doctor: he’s grouchy, an arrogant jerk, and strangely obsessed with pie.

Three things Dr. Dick knows: he doesn’t talk about his past, he doesn’t do relationships, and the crazy girl in the hospital cafeteria who ate a fistful of French silk pie…is annoyingly irresistible.

After a chance meetup at a bar and a heated cab ride together, things come to a head and now instead of hating each other, they’re horizontal in a bed.

Three months later, the weird cafeteria stalker who crept out of Dr. Dick’s house like a thief in the night, winds up as his patient in the ER after her Tinder date from hell.

Dr. Dick is prepared to keep it cool and professional. That is until her bloodwork reveals that she’s pregnant.

What really throws him for a loop…is that the surprise baby…is his.

— MY REVIEW —

Helllllo….

Girls_Swoon

I usually say this at the end to wrap up my review but I’m going to say it now before anything else is said — this book must be read! I am recommending. I am elbowing. I am virtually holding this book in front of your face and telling you to read it! 📘

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of One Moment Please is the amount of times it made me tear up. I was constantly blinking back tears every few chapters. I was so emotional, I could have given Lynsey and her pregnant hormonal self a run for her money. Well almost, anyways. Lol.

Josh and Lynsey’s journey was of the Herculean scale. It was complicated from beginning to end that I almost wanted to throw in the towel at times for them — so they (and me) didn’t have to go through another heart-crushing moment! My gosh the issues they go through was frustrating, yet so very necessary. I have to give Lynsey mad props for being able to have the strength to go through all that drama.

HowToLose_DramaDramaDrama

Amy Daws has created such complex, well developed characters. I admit whilst in the middle of reading this book I didn’t see the growth so easily at first, as nothing ever seemed resolved. But Lynsey, she pushed for more — not only in Josh, but in their relationship and that really opened my eyes to the amount of progress these two characters have made since they first met.

Josh is a difficult character. He’s set in his ways, constantly demanding and a hard shell to crack, but despite all that he’s a very appealing character. You can’t hate the guy. You can get irritated with him. But you can’t hate him.

For the majority of the book you don’t really see a lot of openness from Josh when it comes to his personal life. And when you do it comes out as snippets. He’s a bit of a jigsaw puzzle. With each little snippet he shares, you get a piece until you have a big enough image to figure out the rest of the puzzle — which in this instance is Josh’s entire reasoning behind his tough exterior and his detached behaviour towards Lynsey and the situation they’re in. He’s Dr. Dick for a reason.

Josh and Lynsey meet in an usual yet entertaining as hell kind of way. One Moment Please is a standalone (part of the Wait With Me series) with an initial enemies to lovers romance trope. They’re complete opposites in personality so that’s another element you can look forward to in this rom-com.

Whilst you have a somewhat unemotional character in Josh, the other half of this duo; Lynsey is nothing but feelings. She’s the light to Josh’s dark. Told from dual POVs — there’s no denying the contrast in their character traits. Put that with the very awkward situation they’re in… and you’ll have butting heads.

Daws always has a way of writing stories that touches on serious matters that’s both relatable and realistic but always adding light-heartedness into it to ease the heaviness of the subject. She has a way of making you feel like you’re going through it all right alongside the characters. Doesn’t matter if it’s a funny moment or a more somber one — her characters leap off the pages and it was no different with Josh and Lynsey. Even her secondary characters had so much personality, they make an impact even if they were only there for a brief time.

Shout out to Lynsey’s besties, Kate and Dean. They were a little bit in your face for my liking but I can appreciate the love and effort behind their behaviour. Kate is actually the heroine in Wait With Me (first book in the series) and after having only read One Moment Please so far, I’m eager than ever to read Kate’s book to see her in full Kate-dom. Now, I haven’t completely figured out my thoughts on Dean yet. It’s currently a love/hate thing. But I’m hoping to see more of him in the future.

Josh’s friend Max on the other hand I was vibing with the minute he was introduced. I’m a fan of any friend who doesn’t bullshit.. but yet who can totally ease your mind if need be. Josh had the perfect friend in Max for support.

Supernatural_Drinks

Overall this was an absolute dreamy read especially during this time where we’re all staying at home and looking for comfort reads. If you enjoy romance books that involve opposites unexpectedly thrown in together for a topsy-turvy roller coaster ride full of emotion, friendships, good food and life changing experiences, add this one to your TBR! It’s fairly well paced, with the first chapter kicking it off with a bang. You won’t be able to put it down.

RATING: ♥♥♥♥½

French_Silk_Pie

P.S. I’m inserting a picture of French Silk Pie. This particular pie plays a very important role in this book, and the entire time I was reading I was asking myself, “What is silk pie??”

If you’ve already read One Moment Please prior to my review, then you know the importance of this pie. And, if you were like me and didn’t know what it was or what it looked like, well here ya go folks.

For those, who haven’t read the book yet — when you do come across the first moment this pie takes centre stage.. you won’t be wondering what it looks like anymore. You’re welcome! 😉😊

Good morning my dear, naive friend, I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow

Why?

Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c’mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.

He’s the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it’s followed by “don’t stop.”

Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil… and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.

IMG_20200113_004240_145

Ahhhhh I love me some Dean!! 😍

I’m going to say it right here, right now.. one of my top five fave R.S. Grey books ever read! It had everything I wanted in a contemporary romance. Enemies to lovers, lots of banter, sparks between the hero/ heroine, some grovelling and of course — a HEA!

AllureOfJulianLefray_Cover

The Allure of Dean Harper is the second book in the Allure duet. The first book being The Allure of Julian Lefray, and whilst this book is technically a standalone (like the majority of Grey’s books are), I recommend you read Julian Lefray first because that’s where you’re first introduced to them. Whilst they don’t officially meet each other until this book, Dean is Julian’s best friend, and Lily’s best friend is Jo (who is Julian’s love interest.. you getting the gist of how these two will meet?) 🤭

I’ve read Dean Harper numerous times already. This review may be.. umm.. a smidge late (okay, okay.. a lot late), but my feelings towards this book have not changed since my first read of it. If anything, I love it more each time I pick it up.

If you’re a fan of enemies to lovers/ hate to love romance tropes, and haven’t read this one yet? Then I urge you to do so.. *nudge nudge* Not only is it one of my fave books of Grey’s, it’s also one of my all time fave books with that oh-so clichéd (but still the best) romance trope. The amount of witty banter, and frustration coming from both these characters had me laughing nonstop. The chemistry between Lily and Dean is palpitating whether they’re bickering about the most random of things, to full-blown arguing, or completely succumbing to their desire and hooking up! You can’t help but feel emotional right alongside them.

“There’s a fine line between persistence and annoyance.” — Dean

“Is that the same line that falls between being a control freak and just being an asshole?” — Lily

Grey’s books are quintessential mood boosters! You may get teary-eyed in some scenes but I guarantee by the time you finish one, you’ll have a smile on your face. Her characters are always quirky, with a unique sense of humor that’s so relatable. The storylines are light-hearted yet realistic enough that one is bound to identify with certain situations, actions or issues a character is going through. That’s a big part in why I’m constantly a fan of her books.

(P.S. Any book that explicitly has mentions of food in the storyline, is another thumbs up in my opinion!) — Make sure to grab yourself a snack whilst reading this one. You’ll get hungry, trust me!

The Allure of Dean Harper is entertaining as hell, fairly well-paced (you won’t be bored for one second), and the backdrop for this romcom sets the scene perfectly. The characters’ personalities are amazingly developed — practically spilling out of the pages! Dean oozes the charm, confidence and experience. Lily may be young and stubborn, but she’s also a go-getter, passionate and thoughtful.

I must also mention the supporting characters. I almost always adore the side characters in Grey’s books, and this one was no different. Grey has a knack for writing them so likeable that I tend to wish they had bigger roles. Lol. They bring perfectly timed comic relief, either by breaking the tension or putting the leads in an extended state of embarrassment. Whichever way they come.. it’s another thing to look forward to! 😊

The journey that Dean and Lily go through is not the easiest. If you put the fun and jokes aside there’s a lot of denial, fear and miscommunication that they both have to work through and face in order to move forward.

It may be a quick read, but it packs a punch!
